Maybe cause Goodwin only gave him a game here and there to come on as a sub.
We were crying out for genuine speed yet he kept playing Spargo.
Glad Goodwin's gone.

Probably would have lost Chandler too if every other option we had didn't leave for more opportunity/was injured.

Club was on a fast road to nowhere with Goody and his 21 GF faves.

I suspect the club was being polite in terms of why they want May gone.

Maybe (pardon the pun 😂). It's crazy how quickly the worm turns. One moment Maysie is the super compeditive silver back gorrilla key back that the club has wanted and needed for the past 10 years and the next, he's too much for us to handle and past it.

Honestly, I'd rather he stays and plays out his days in the red and blue. One of my favourite players of all time - he's an absolute beast and a MFC legend as far as I'm concerned.

Every team needs a guy that gives his team mates a spray every now and then - Jake Lever will be lost without that!

If only that was a sentiment more reciprocally expressed in modern day footy, although I do think Clayton is one of the more genuine and loyal players going around.

If we are paying half his wage, I think it will be a pick in the teens

Don't think so. His last 2 years have been rubbish. Pick 32 at best. 12 is a pipe dream.

Yep, give me an undervalued developing fringe player like Bedford that's been starved of opportunities though that club having a glut of his type, but ready to explode into a best 22 player as opposed to one that will remain a perpetual finge player.

Not really wanting to loose Clarry, but if it gets done, then I think Wade Derksen sounds like the kind of fair return I'd expect from GWS.

U must be on a Snoop Dawg Reefer!?? U want to trade out a magnificent player that will go down as one of the BEST PLAYERS for MFC of all time to a player Wade Derkson who has the C.V of a 4th grade suburban player in the magoos??? Yeah right!

For the time being...

We need more near 'perfect'

He ain't gonna give it.

I notice u have Clarry listed down as one of your favourite players.... Pity u have turned to the Dark side and denigrated one of our best ever players with your dribbling rubbish of pick 32!

Why would Oliver spend a couple of days in Sydney before heading to the U.S.?

Why not?

Lol. Ease up Mr.Fence. I don't want to trade him out, but if we do, I'm just wanting a developing young player with potential, as opposed to a spud that never makes it.

Many on this forum have been talking up Derksen for the past few seasons. Konestly don't know if he's the best that we could get out of GWS, but on face value if the reports are right that we're prepared to pay $700k of his salary, our own club itself doesn't seem to think Clarry has that much currency. I'd rather a semi developed key back where we have a bit of a potential gap, than taking a pot on a run if the mill mid where we probably have more options in-house.

Pick 32 or 34 for Clarry sounds like an easy transaction.

Might get done week 1 of trade week.

Although the way they played hard ball on 0 gamer Wade Derksen last year, perhaps pick 34 will be seen as too expensive for GWS.

We are not doing Clarry for 32.

Crows and maybe others also have interest in him for their midfield.

We are talking one of the best contested players of all time, 4 x B and F , AA , premiership player, with if we pay some part of salary isn’t expensive and is only 28. That is not pick 32 in any world.

I expect 12 or maybe 32 and a decent player to be the deal and I also think it will be done well before the end of trade period.

Beautifully put so accurate. Goody did not see his role as worrying about the future as hung on desperately to his past hero’s.

He stilted development at times and wasted dead rubbers not experimenting ie Judd McVee.

Our whole attitude from 2023 on has been defence and hanging on got his sake.

I think the players will play with much more freedom and it will evolve positive response and accordingly better results under King.

You're in for a rude shock then 'Red'

We have no leverage because we are the ones forcing him out. As I have said on here before, you cant deliberately force someone out of the club and then demand a first round pick at the same time regardless of his accolades. Remember Jordan Lewis at Hawthorn..

Oliver has lost value on himself because he hasnt played a decent game since 2022.

2nd round pick is probably what we will get.

I shouldn't be on this site at all. It makes me sick in my stomach to think of Clarrie playing against us - and I am CERTAIN that next year (unless the present mess wrecks his mental health and who should blame him if it did?) he will be a champion again - but the thought that we might be PAYING him to do it is beyond my comprehension. Steven King has got a lot of work to do for me to forgive him or back him. He got the job saying that CP5 and Clarrie were in our best team. So much for honesty and transparency.

He had to say that he can’t exactly openly say in his first meeting we are trading everyone.

Fact is as much as people love these two, they have been trouble

No one is forcing him out. We told him he won’t be playing full midfield minutes and he’s more than welcome to exercise his right to a trade if he wants to.

Yes it is the polite way of doing it I guess but we’d be happy to keep him

I think the reality is in the middle of this.

I don’t see this as a strict salary dump as you’re suggesting and the trade return probably depends on how much we pay of his salary.

for example, If we pay nothing they get him for pick 156 and we’re just happy to have the money off the books.

If we are paying 700k a year for 5 years we are in salary dump territory, if that’s the case I suspect we do ask for a fringe player or a second round pick to help save face as much as anything else

Exactly. He could have just said am going to do whatever possible to develop my inside/outside game and I will make you pick me.

Instead he cracks it.

Me thinks it was a test that Clarrie horribly failed...he jumped, easy to let go....we do not need to molly-coddle nearly 30 yo man-childs.

My hope Is that King is having lots of these conversations, with all players on the list.

Hey guys, I am going to expect much more, I am going to assist you all to become better, more well rounded players. Need you to buy in and trust me, let's get to work and on the path to regaining respect, it is going to be a fun ride!

I hope not.

2nd round and nothing else imo would see us paying very little of his contract.

If we are paying a chunk of his salary we are looking at 12.

Anyway we will know soon enough.

The market will dictate

hopefully a couple of clubs show interest to get a bidding contest going

the temptation of getting elite Clarry would be tempting for the likes of GWS. If he can get back to anything like his best then pick 12 for example will be a steal

Big if of course. Let's see what eventuates but hopefully we get a 1st rather than a 2nd rounder for him.

The more $ we pay the better pick we will get

Paying 700k a year of his salary isn't a salary dump, it's the opposite, it'd be pick purchasing

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
