Farewell Clayton Oliver

Calm down, it was against Collingwood's B team in February.

Picket reckons the sun shines out of his proverbial

Individual before team? Makes no sense

Oliver will still accumulate possessions but he doesn't like any sort of contact these days. And because his reflexes aren't at the level as they once were, he offloads the ball indiscriminately

He's having 2nd looks and hears footsteps. It's why he got benched early in the season by Goodwin. No room for faint hearts

A good player offloads as late as possible and then takes the hit

Both Oliver & Petracca do not like the late hit. They both play frightened

I'm glad they're both gone

When you're looking ahead, you can't be looking at the 2021 flag

King won't care, nor will the new FD

It's why we accepted peanuts for Oliver and with regards to Petracca, we lucked out with 3 First round draft picks for the Prima Donna. Happy days

We've now got a midfield that will go hard at the ball

Off the rails, more like it

The money ruined him and he became a law unto himself. He might put his head down for a while but his biggest issue these days is that he backs away from contests ... doesn't want to know about it

Stick to the Jeffo stuff, it's at least good for a laugh. Oliver is now the enemy ... he doesn't play for your club

Being in Sydney will make him a no body again, which may suit his after hours shenanigans.

Let me correct you on 3 things before putting you on ignore forever..

1 Yes I did play and am proud of 2 ammo flags which as a player I was instrumental in with my individual skills

2 Oliver playing scared is an outstanding claim, pure fantasy stuff, if he plays scared what of Daicos?

3 A mercenary??? Bah, yeah he lost form mainly through a bad hamstring and various broken bones in which he would have played through pain. REMEMBER HE WANTED TO STAY!

So go and take your rhettoric, go buy a skyrocket, stick it where the sun dont shine, light it and become the first demonlander on the Klingon home world!

There are lots of things I don't agree with PF about but I am 100% with him on this. We should have worked hard harder to help him defeat his problems and kept on of the greatest players ever to play for our club.

What a joke of a post. Club, coaches and captain looked after him like a toddler for far TOO long

Oliver [censored] on the club which paid him handsomely

And just about everyone in the football world knows and accepts that, except you

In fact, he stuffed up so badly that only one club wanted him and even then only wanted him if he came virtually free of charge

You are defending the indefensible

We did help him (for 3 years) and then rightfully, ran out of patience

He was given numerous chances

His demise from the club is his own fault

And it's hard to see him having a blemish-free run at the Giants. Sooner or later, trouble will rear it's ugly head

I agree he had to go but please do not wish any further trouble on Clayton. Hopefully we gave him his wake-up call and he welcomes it with open arms. In the long term, I hope he is able to look back and thank us for this new start.

Let's not forget that both the old & the new regime at the club tried to off-load him

But it was only when the new regime realised that we had to virtually give him away, that the deal was done

And if GWS didn't some to the party, we'd still be stuck with him and his childish antics. Thanks, Giants

And with at least half his salary freed up, we were able to secure Steele (an absolute upgrade)

I'll call that a definite win

Clayton's future rests with Clayton himself. He's responsible for his own actions

He ran out of excuses

Oh give me a spell. The club bent over backwards for Oliver to an ridiculous degree.

They let him take a pre-season off to help him work on his mental health and Gawn took him into his home while his wife was literally pregnant.

It's not the club's fault that he's a massive man child who refused to get his act together.

Sadly there is no substitute for ability so I am not surprised that Clarry played so well .I accept that there may have been issues as to culture and hence the reason we also let his now team mate the brilliant Hoges go to Freo .Too much concern for culture and not enough concern for winning matches .But at least we solved the culture problem in Hoges case by using the trade pick to acquire the culture beacon Steven May .

I thought jack steele played well yesterday. He will be a good influence and role model for the younger crew

Watch the highlights:

Clarry gets the ball and hoofs it forward.

Then a few times he's jogging back.

Steele was in the mix, extracting and then following in and kicked a few goals.

It's sad how CO behaved but I'm glad he's gone. He'll be shown up badly against first team players at full AFL pace and pressure.

At the very least the FIFA Brownlow.

Amazing Picket for someone, anyone to say that Oliver played scared. Oliver was and is as tough as nails. He went into packs like a man possessed. Sad when some posters treat him like dirt and forget his years of absolute brilliance. I remember an interview he had late last season. He was talking about the new game plan of Goodwin and how he was feeling confident of it working in season 2026. He wanted to stay, he definitely wanted to stay.

I have no doubt Oliver will be a good player at GWS. But he checked out in 2023 and Petracca checked out in 2024. Two 14th finishes since indicates they are no great losses for our future.

Just a from a pure compensation point of view I hope Trac succeeds more than Clarry.

We got a tremendous deal out of Trac. Trelly, Taylor (who I only needed to see a quarter of to know he’s got it ) and hopefully someone decent next year for a 30 year old who has 2 great years left.

Meanwhile we traded Oliver for a 2 piece feed at KFC. (One of the pieces may have been traded for Steele but you get what I mean)

Know one knows what happened behind the scenes with Clarry and perhaps conceding a Clarry 30 possession game to GWS is outweighed by the relief of not having him at the club anymore?

I’m sure by round 5 Clarry will be an afterthought for most of us.

Remember his 35 + 3 goals against Freo in the practise game last year?

I do remember that game well. We all thought 2025 was his redemption year on the back of an amazing pre season game.

Re Friday - I might add that aside from each centre bounce, Collingwood left him completely unaccountable and enabled him free access to the footy.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
