In fairness to Clarry, he can really only play inside mid so if I was told to change position or play for Casey, I would take that as the Coach wants me to leave.

He’s not a great kick so clearly would be terrible off HB. Serviceable fwd perhaps.

Hey Greg Williams, we’re thinking back pocket next season, cool?

I just asked you a simple question.Yes or no. Not hard.

Do you think Oliver has taken his role as a professional athlete seriously over the last 3 seasons, getting his body into the physical condition required to be an elite midfielder? Yes or no.

This thread is getting heated

Clarry still causing trouble for us

Exactly - so this talk about not treating him with sensitivity is just garbage isn't it?

One man's trash is another man's treasure! Wouldn't be Demonland if that were not the case haha

Yes of course. There was no indication of poor fitness in his last game of the season against Collingwood. Thought he looked fine.

Yes of course. He looked like he was pretty fit v Collingwood last game of the season. Had an elite game.

Good points BB, but to tell a champion mid fielder he will not be playing in that role where he has proved himself time after time , would be a bit hard to stomach. You can't really blame him for his reaction and he does have GINGER hair! Hopefully, he will think a bit more about it. I am a bit worried that King's 'new broom' approach will work. Quite often doesn't.

With respect, Bobby (because you deserve respect unlike others on here), how do you know what his reaction was? I was told last night by someone who’d know that Clarrie didn’t ‘storm out of the meeting’ he actually did leave in a hurry but only because he had a plane to catch. Him snapping at Mitch Cleary at the airport doesn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t happy with the details of the meeting, it’s likely the release of accumulated frustration that’s been mounting up and he’d reached the end of his tether. Clarrie is currently experiencing something that no one should have to go through. Mitch Cleary just happened to be the straw/camel etc.

Clayton’s reaction to this alleged meeting shows he still has a long way to go. We supported him when his issues were most acute, now we need to give him our blessing and move on.

The club can’t be held hostage to his troubles forever.

Can you tell us what his reaction was? I don’t mean what was reported in the media, I mean what his real reaction was. None of us can, right? Sadly the majority of people choose to believe what the media is saying, yet again.

You seem to always “know someone” or spoken to a player on literally every dealings we have had this past 6 months. It’s hard to decipher what fairy tales you make up and what is the truth. It’s good reading though

You're having a laugh or have no idea what he's been up to the last 3 years if you genuinely think that's the case.

His reaction was to go on a cruise with a select few.

It's an interesting reaction wouldn't you say Ghosty ? 🤔🤷‍♂️

Completely ignoring everything the media reports is as unhealthy as accepting everything the media says.

You are better connected than most on here, but for the majority of us who love this club but don’t have your connection, we have nothing else to go off and therefore start with what’s reported.

And with the reports being that we had a discussion about 2026 with him, following which the next day he was on a boat with GWS, is it unreasonable for us to link the two and conclude that he’s considering a change following that meeting with King?

I might say that… if I considered his movements a reaction to the meeting. But I don’t.

He's been taking the [censored] for years/taking the club for a ride on a huge contract. As soon as he's confronted with an honest conversation from his new coach he has a sook about it.

Would it have been better if King wasn't honest with him about his role in the team going forward and then waited until next season/preseason to bring it up and hold him accountable to something that hadn't been discussed previously? The babying of guys in their late 20s is crazy. Yes there has to be an element of respecting someones mental health, I'm not de ying that - but it is a two way street, you can't just continue enabling someone's bad behaviour it doesn't serve either party well.

You’re making way too much sense, there’s only so much a club can do.Of course he’s loyal, he’s on 1.5 mill and not pulling his weight

We all love Clarry, mental health is a big issue & the club has been pretty dam good in looking after him for not much in return for two & a half years

But as soon as the new coach starts putting underperforming players on notice, they all start throwing their toys out the cot, it’s not good enough & needs to change or we’ll remain a laughing stock & no professional player will want to come here

Whether you think he went off in a huff or not, it does seem strange that he was able to arrange that boat trip so quickly. Almost as if that was always planned, meeting with King regardless?

well without that meeting i dare say he isnt on a boat with another teams head coach...

Clayton simply requested Cleary consider other options that may be available to him!

This year is completely different to last year at Geelong.

It wasn'tthe coach that forced him to go speak to Geelong it was a board member instead.

This time around its the coach that has pretty told him to look at other options because he's not guaranteed a game next year.

Two completely different scenarios.

Daz, if you look at it from Oliver’s perspective,, both scenarios have the same outcome in his eyes -“they want me out of the club”. In both cases the decision is his because he is under contract. So he may come home, like last year, or he may leave. So I still stand by my original statement.

Not really Neil.

It was only one person (Pert) last year that went behind the the coach, list manager and the president back to speak to Geelong about a potential trade.

This year its the whole club as a collective that has pushed it this time.

Yes I do think it’s unreasonable to link the two. I absolutely do think it’s unreasonable.

I understand your point about entertaining what’s been reported in the media due to a lack of information that says otherwise. But it’s when folks not only blindly believe the media reports as gospel, but they come on here and disparage and insult the person about whom the media is reporting. It’s unfair that they’re making harsh judgments based only on what reporters are telling them. And as we all know, sensationalism/shock-value etc. is the reporters’ bread and butter.

And this mightn’t faze the majority of players. There are some however who can’t cope with the feeling of being not wanted.

Sigh. If only we were all robots.

My gleanings from what's available is he had/has a holiday planned in the States. He was leaving via Sydney.

Im going to go out on a limb and suggest that had that meeting not occurred ( King ) then Clarry would have simply transited via Kingsford Smith or got a burger somewhere... who knows.

But he did meet with King and he did meet with the Giants. I'm unsure how those two things can't be connected.

Just me I guess 🤷

So he'd already arranged a meeting with GWS before the meeting with King?

I think it purely a coincidence that 24hrs after meeting king, Oliver is on a boat with the senior coach of the team showing the most interest in signing him

How could anyone draw conclusions from this????

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
