Tim Lamb:

  • Petracca discussions have been preliminary only. Won't go further into details but he's loved member of the MFC and any trade must benefit the club.

  • Stated explicitly that Petracca came to Melbourne to explore the trade.

  • If BH is off the table, are we targeting Pick 6 and 7: Won't go into detail.

  • BH: In this situation you need to be respectful as GC have made their position clear. It was not ideal that the Tan walk was spotted.

  • Oliver: Has not made a call on his future, but based on media speculation appears GWS will be the option. Still needs to be a deal, no word received from GWS or Oliver camp.

  • Reporting on Oliver meeting last week not necessarily correct, but we did not direct him to explore options

  • The progress shown over the past couple of years by young brigade have allowed us to be more open.

  • BM will come to the club (at this stage) via FA, but we are talking to Collingwood about potential options due to the Spargo compensation. The stature of Brody will add another dimension to the front end.

  • Max Heath: working through this, will be straight-forward.

  • Derksen: Had a historical interest and was monitored this year. Excited about Turner and Adams as genuine players, plus TMac providing leadership. Unfortunately decided to go in another direction.

  • We're after another midfielder, but not just for the sake of it.

  • Believe Rivers can turn into a topline midfielder for us, also mentioned Tholstrup.

  • Lamb expects May to be at the club next year.

  • Non-committal about trading back into the first, never say never.

Lots happening today

@cac1963 on Christian Petracca - "We have had some preliminary discussions, it will take a little while to work through, but we have been talking to Melbourne about a deal."

• … on BH - "We are really clear though, we are NOT trading Bailey Humphrey, we just won't look into that at all."

• and on JUH - "We were looking at someone who was committed to getting himself back to playing football. He met with our leadership group. He will do a medical with us today, and we need to get the AFL to clear it as well, but we are progressing that."

• Callum Twomey - There's been progress on a deal for West Coast's Campbell Chesser to get to the Blues. Carlton's pick No.41 is in there as part of the mix of options.

1. "Gold Coast have made their position clear Bailey Humphrey is not on the trade table and you need to respect their position."

2. Re Clayton Oliver - "From the media speculation it appears he wants to get to the Giants but we haven't spoken with them. A deal would need to get worked out."

3. Re Brody Mihocek- "At this stage it is looking likely he could be a free agent. We are talking to Collingwood on a couple of things. We are comfortable bringing him in a free agent."

4. Appears that Steven May remains a Demon.

Did he mention Kolt as a mid or just a good player?

I may have this wrong as I was listening at work, but I thought it was in reference to younger players they can see going through the midfield. But the comment contextually went on to be talking about the younger talent coming through in general.

As we near the end of trade week 2025, I’m so disillusioned with the state of football journalism to the point where I’m seriously considering closing this thread because of the groupthink among the presenters on AFL Trade Radio. Too much nodding of heads in agreement at the most ludicrous scenarios being put forward … and their inconsistency.

Then along comes a journalist who I might not have always agreed with in the past and this happens:

Robbo, Baz, Caro and the case of the missing Trade Radio audio

It's the mysterious case of the missing audio and AFL censorship.

Filling air time on the AFIs Trade Radio product is a tough gig and the Thursday morning crew, hosted by Channel Nine's Tom Morris and former Essendon great James Hird, decided to give an old friend a call.

They got former Herald Sun chief football writer Mark "Robbo" Robinson on the line to tell a few stories from the good old days of trade week like Chris Judd's move from West Coast to Carlton.

The chat soon veered onto more recent topics and this is where things got interesting”.

“This is where Inspector Clouseau needs to be called in.

At the 41-minute mark of the podcast review of the show Morris throws to Robbo coming up next. But there is no Robbo on the other side of the break. In fact he is nowhere to be found.”

For those who are wondering what all the fuss is about, this is a taste of Robbo on Trade Radio.

‘Some of the players are really starting to s**t me,’ he said” … and he goes on to specifically criticize Bailey Smith’s recent conduct and then raised said,

"I'm disappointed in Greg Swann and in Andrew Dillon for allowing that to go through to the keeper without punishment."

He also went on to express disappointment about Clayton Oliver's expletive-laden response to a TV reporter last week,

"The Clayton Oliver stuff. Fair dinkum. Does the AFL understand that the whole country is watching their players act like absolute bozos and it's a bad reflection on the AFL and the players where it's f-n this and they drop c-bombs," he said.

Why AFL Trade Radio dropped this from its daily audio is answered somewhere between the lines. The audience is being told to believe what the AFL wants them to believe.

So well said. I thought of suggesting the same thing. Footy joirnalism has gone the way of political and current affairs. The wrong tupe of people doing tge reporting. Think, those that talked a lot at school but witbout substance

Today was fizzle Friday ~

• Brody Mihocek and Pick 71 heads to Melbourne for Pick 61 and Melbourne's 2026 R3 selection.

• Mihocek on his conversations with the Melbourne captain -

"He said it will be like a new club, and there are a lot of fresh faces coming in. I've always admired Max Gawn."

• a Three way deal -

PORT ADELAIDE Gets Corey Durdin, 2026 second-round pick (tied to Carlton) and Gives

Pick 29, 67

CARLTON Gets Ben Ainsworth, pick 67 and Gives Corey Durdin, 2026 second-round pick

GOLD COAST Gets Pick 29 and Gives Ben Ainsworth

• Campbell Chesser has been traded to Carlton. Pick 41 heading the way of the Eagles.

Problem is that nothing really happens on the weekends but I guess it’s worth mentioning that Cal Twomey has reported a pick swap agreed over the weekend and is set to be lodged tomorrow.

The Western Bulldogs will trade pick 12 to Greater Western Sydney for picks 14 & 37.

That latter pick (37) is separately set to be used by the Dogs to get a deal done for Connor Budarick.

This could have some bearing on an Oliver trade if it goes ahead and a swap of picks takes place.

Then there’s this interesting comment from Ralphie. Although not strictly AFL Trade Radio related it’s worth bringing into the conversation and asking every ATR commentator why they don’t apply this principle when they discuss the possibility of a trade of Christian Petracca to the Gold Coast Suns -

Great start to the morning from the AFL Trade Radio gurus. They are on fire ~

• Tom Morris has impeccable sources (apparently, he lives in the Hardwick household): "Gold Coast will give 7 and 8 to Melbourne, providing they get 24 back. If this happens, it essentially means Melbourne will lose Petracca and McVee for 7 and 8... That's a pretty good deal. As much as Melbourne would have loved Bailey Humphrey to be part of this deal, I think that's been a nice wish but is off the table entirely. Petracca will be a Gold Coast Player, it will get done."

• The same Tom Morris on Clayton Oliver: "The more Melbourne pays, the better pick they expect. They might be able to get Pick 35 or 37 off GWS, but I think it's very likely Clayton Oliver gets to the Giants for a future third rounder."

• It's not looking like Steven May will be finding a new home in this trade period.

• Max Heath was interviewed: "It is obviously pretty hard to leave a club you have loved for four years but the tutelage from Max Gawn and Tom Campbell was too hard to overlook."

7 & 8 with 24 and Petracca going to Suns is not a good deal

Agree. Not a good deal. We talked tough and wanted “to be satisfied with picks and player for Trac”. I hope the media are wrong as it means we buckled. Soft is the other word that might be used.

Ultimately that deal would see MFC lose Trac and McVee for picks 7&8 (pick 11&12). 🤮🤮

Effectively Petracca and McVee for 7 and 8

Plus Oliver for a mooted pick in the 30s plus paying half his salary.

What a joke. If these deals get done I think I am done with the club and its trading. Tim Lamb can just go as well ...

Let's hope the club has more sense. Other clubs hold firm as they know the Dees will buckle. It's painted as ' we are a good club to deal with' but you never go into a negotiation like we seem to do constantly - where everyone knows you are desperate to do a deal, any deal.

Morris has said that it’s unlikely Melbourne will deal 24, more likely a later pick.

could be a pick we get for Clayton. So could look worse - Trac and Clayton for 7 and 8.

So disillusioned with this club. So sick of getting steamrolled when we have the upper hand. Make gold coast give up a future first and then give them back a future second and pick 28

King is starting a long way back in my book with how he is coming in and making a fire-sale with clarry.

So over it all

Trades today -

• GWS receives a first-round pick (12) - Western Bulldogs receive a first-round pick (14) and a second-round pick (27)

• West Coast Eagles receive Tylar Young - Richmond receive a second-round pick (38)

• Port Adelaide receives Will Brodie - Fremantle receives a sixth-round selection (103)

Agree.

Trac and pick 27 & pick 41

7&8 and Suns future 1st round pick

Fu&)&)k them!!! F@&$k them !!

You want to keep Humphrey

We are still getting [censored]

That’s the Final deal

Or

Trac stays !!

We do not have the upper hand in any of these deals.

According to Cal (the bomber) Twomey..

Two x top 10 picks is more than enough for Petracca

but for Zac Merrett …getting two x 10 picks would be unders?

Time to declare his Essendon allegiance 🤡?

settle petal - you'll blow a gasket. If you call out all the media's faults, you'll never be happy.

It all depends on who wants Tracc the most or the least- the Dees or GC.

If GC are desperate to get Tracc and do not want to lose Humphrey they may have to bite the bullet and give their 2nd rated player Patterson a miss (he could go around pick 5). Something has to give.

Who knows they may get lucky and see lower than expected bids.

Hardwick knows it will be very tough to get to a prelim without a player like Tracc added to the team.

I would want to keep pick 24. Its valuable as its the 1st pick of the 2nd round on draft night 2.

Some seemingly pretty good kids around picks 7/8.

See open draft ranks with expert rankings listed below. Found this on X.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
