No argument there…we’ve known the changes have been coming for two years, why the he’ll couldn’t AFL have consulted properly and released the framework & rules well before now?

The 18’s season is well underway, we know who the FS & Academy prospects are and roughly where they sit, but not what they will cost? Absurd.

That said, someone was going to lose out at some point whenever they were introduced, the competition just needs them in now.

I’m a big fan of Xavier Ladbrook. Tall, talented & versatile enough to play multiple positions (has played as a tall winger as well).

Clancy Snell has looked pretty good and has had some pundits label him the best key back in this years crop.

Ethan Herbert from SA has looked good in ruck & down back this year as well.

Haven't seen mich of Snell but Ladbrook looks great from what I've seen.

In a way it's a pity, because we absolutely need more midfield talent IMV. 1, possibly 2 more. Maybe we end up spending the 2026 picks on Humphrey and trade our future 1sts for a KPB. But who that'd be I uave no idea. It could be better to target the FA market.

Have been 'flagged' but not certain exactly when and the precise details. Kind of important when planning for a draft. May not matter in a practical sense this year because Carlton and Port are doing so badly this season this far that a low ladder finish is actially quite desirable. Still all very amateurish from the AFL.

A great run of form could push any of those up there, but for now Herbert’s probably in the 10ish range, Snell close and Ladbrook might be back end of teens at this early stage.

Upside with all is significant though, Ladbrook just got best on for the Academy against Nth Melbourne VFL team last weekend. Pretty good effort for a kpd.

Whilst not a midfield heavy draft, there are more than a few good ones near the top, Texeira will go high and I love what I’ve seen of Noah Williams. Tough as nails and a great left foot. Edwards & Mellodie look like top 10 quality too.

What picks Dees end up taking to the draft will be interesting. Hold 2 firsts, but feel like we’ll try to get pretty active in trade period.

Snell is the best for me and I think he probably ends up picked between 6-12 on draft night. He's aggressive and brave in the air. Clean intercept marker, but has good judgement for when to spoil. Can lock down or rebound. Also a very composed and assured user by foot, and clean at ground level. Maybe a bit Rance like?

Ladbrook the real upside kid, over 200cm, rangy and athletic and wants to be assertive (sometimes too assertive and gets too far ahead of the play). But he's shown the ability to body up and be desperate in the 1v1s, as well as the interceptor and rebounder. Could go in the top 15 (possibly as high as 7ish?).

There will no doubt some more pop up through the National Championships, but those two are the top end ones for me.

@ChaserJ agree with Gus Texeira as a young available non-aligned midfielder to have on the JT list (alongside guys like Gus Kennedy, Ethan Drever and Jackson Phillips).

Axel Walsh CHB, 201cm runs 6min 2km, excellent by hand and foot. Absolute freak, but next year’s draft and I reckon Tassie will take him as a 17 year old

I like Drever a lot from what i've seen early and definitely more so than Texeira so far, LeCras really impressed me on the weekend too

Jordan Knapp is a balanced inside/outside midfielder, undersized but with some Jagga Smith like qualities in his ability to find the footy at stoppage and navigate traffic to extract it. He's excellent on the spread, has strong disposal skills to set up teammates and is capable of hitting the scoreboard himself.

Another top ten list.

@Turner @Whispering_Jack interesting the top 10 listing has Gus Teixeira at 6. He definitely talented. As I’ve posted, other Vic young guns like Ethan Dever, Jackson Phillips and Gus Kennedy.
