Steven May is one of the reasons I still watch AFL ,sure he points a finger and he might have a few beers unlike the rest of the male population who support the DEES .BUT he has given his all for the RED and BLUE and deserves to finish his playing days with the MFC at the G .

I love this post mate

This went how I thought it would. He wasn't told to get out but to explore his options, there were none so he stayed.

Will be very interesting to see how he reacts.

I like Maysie... he a rough diamond but a gem none the less. May-be a bit too much ...oh...I don't know... acts- before-engaging brain ... but his heart is in the right place.

I think some should rewatch some games to see just how much of a pillar in defence he is.

Ppl joke about the Monty Python flesh wound meme like qualities... but he is that determined nutcase

He's flawed...but seldom floored.

Again... interesting year ahead.

Was clearly playing through an injury in the back half of the year.

If he gets it right, still some good footy in him left.

All the drama about character is way overblown in my opinion

Would still like to see him tried forward. He would terrorise other defences..

I wouldn't. He's only got a year left and he would just take the place of one of our younger forwards who need game time and experience.

Having a forward line built around players well over 30 (May, Mihoceck, Melksham) is how you make yourself irrelevant going forward.

I love the thought of still seeing May and Lever together, something is very comforting about that. Glad the big guy is still here, he’s great and we need some mongrel in the team. Looking forward to seeing how he responds in 2026.

He'll never be a 'great' player again, but if he can find some humility, recognise his limitations and play accordingly, then he can continue to be a very good player with great moments.

It is also pretty clear we aren't going to be making '60 points or less against' as a major benchmark any more. It might mean a more direct accountability to an opponent when defending, and a bit more freedom to hoof it when he has the ball. Lord knows he can get some distance on it, but it has always been the 'percentage' play of sending it long to the left wing.

But, yes, it all depends on finding some humility. If King is as serious about culture as first impressions suggest, and May doesn't get a grip on his inattentiveness and mouthing off, May could find himself uninvited to some training sessions before we even hit the 2026 season proper.

God I hope the long to left wing goes the way of the dodo, swear we have had some of the lamest kick in strategies, I get that it was a percentage play, but couldn't we just create a bit more uncertainty to the oppo please?

May should become a big game hunter, he can't go week in and week out, but he is still capable of some big games, vs Geelong and Adelaide (I mention as they have fairly decent attacks) he got coaches votes.

I do agree though the imperious tuning up of other players has to stop. I really would like to see him fwd as a swingman and hopefully reincarnates like McDonald has.
