The transition from one President to another will happen slightly later than first reported. When there was a rumour that a transition wasn’t going to happen Brad Green specifically contacted Smith and said there’s absolutely going to be a handover (and then let that be publicly known to quell reports). Then the reporter who initially reported suspicious timing and lack of handover (both disproved) finds this all ‘odd’ - and now that’s the ‘story’?

I’m sorry. This is not a story. These late night footy shows on 7 and 9 are just creating this shouty, antagonistic vibe to create the impression of drama and upheaval.

Some players are unhappy at Melbourne, and some administration issues haven’t been handled well. Report on that. I’d care about that if someone provided new and substantiated information. This president stuff is a nothing burger. Caro was reporting herself as recently as Monday afternoon that Green sacked Goodwin so Smith could come in clean, but then hours later started saying this.

She had 2 shows to fill with content this week. She went with this.

Completely agree. A lot of 'beliefs' 'suggestions' and 'rumours' but the segment was very short on facts.

The MFC Board has a full plate. They will not be providing running commentary on journo reports.

Also, there are times a Board will not correct an incorrect public perception if it means negatively impacting someone's reputation. The Board takes this "on the chin" for integrity and moral reasons.

Since becoming President, Brad Green's every action has been to do the right thing for the MFC. Brad's Presidency has been like his captaincy - without ego.

Given this, it's just not believable Brad and the Board took the Goody action without Steven Smith's blessing.

It is common for a Board to approve a future action. For example, as a pure theoretical with no basis in fact, the Board might pre-approve an action to sack a coach based on, after the meeting, an independent report revealing a coach's leadership is no longer effective.

Further, if a Board has a critical action, such as sacking and hiring of a professional team's coach, the responsible Board member would remain responsible even if there is a change in President or Chairman. It would be poor governance otherwise.

Despite Steven Smith taking the Presidency reigns, It is good governance for Brad Green to remain responsible for the hiring of a new coach under terms and guidelines set by the Board. The Board has final approval after due consideration.

If this means Brad stays as President a little longer, there is no drama. But somehow, this clickbait age creates a story.

I've been at training when a young kid went up to Green (before he was president) and asked him if he wanted a signed poster of the team, without realising she was speaking to a legend of the club. He was so polite to her and handled it well.

When Netz opened his pub I went there on the opening night and Brad Green was standing there at the bar having a beer supporting his mate Neita

Captain of the MFC and dominated in one of most exhilarating games in a final against Carlton that any Melbourne supporter born after 1964 had ever seen.

I'm backing he has the best interest of the club at heart and will take a bullet for the club if he has to so the next generation can start with a clean slate

Much is made of a recalibrated handover as it were.

Two things strike me.

1) the fly in the ointment.... when most timing was being discussed/agreed the 💩 hadn't hit the proverbial. That Green had to pull that handle and now so chooses to see it out... well , that's fine by me. He's owning the event. He'd be lampooned if he didn’t. Guy can't win here.

2) where the bloody hell have you been Steve ??

I think Green is on a power trip and doesn't want to let go.... it may be causing more damage across the club than what people realise, also considering how it looks to prospective coaches....

So, just to clarify. As a president he’s a good bloke and good former footballer.

Not sure that’s quite enough if we want to be a top shelf organisation.

Genuinely cannot work out the big deal about a timeline that was vague to begin with being moved a couple of months.

Green needs to step down as agreed. This is ridiculous. Good governance meant we found a President that was capable, and willing to take over the role. Green is an ‘interim’ (I don’t give a flying what he thinks he is) President and should leave as agreed. We should have a new coach that is entirely hired through the process of the leadership that is to be in place long term. That is good governance.

This is a shemozzle. I don’t care if Brad Green bleeds red, blue, or pellets of Pure Unfiltered Jakovich ‘91 - he is not the desired long term or medium term leader of the club.

I am not going to touch on the CEO issue but that is simmering dumpster fire… check on that in a month or whenever he deigns us with his presence.

We already know Smith is on the panel to decide the next coach. I’d be astonished if Smith isn't keenly involved in every key decision being made right now.

The board are responsible for the operation and governance of the Melbourne Football Club. The men's senior team finishes up this week. Casey has at least another two weeks and maybe beyond. The women's team has a season that finishes in November, and hopefully has finals. The AGM is in December, and Steven Smith has stated all along that he would, with board approval, ascend to the post of president. I see no deviation in this other than Caro trying to make a mountain out of nothing.

Just because the AFL team is finishing doesn't mean the club goes off on holidays. To think this is disrespectful to our AFLW team. The CEO will take over from the current incumbent CEO, David Chippindale, who has done a pretty good job up to now. Smith is a current board member and conferenced in on board meetings even while on a planned holiday to Europe. Not a bad way to spend your first year on the board and then stand for president at the AGM rather than jump in cold turkey. Meanwhile, Guerra, while not in the job, is well aware of all the operational stuff. The membership has no clue how they run day to day, and nor should we. Yet we believe a journo who writes more opinion pieces than investigative reports (I am led to believe that is her favourite line), and no one ever goes back to check the accuracy of her whispers. Even Deddy has been critical of the stuff she dishes up on the other channel.

None of us know of course. But if he was on a power trip and didn't want to let go, it would look very much like this.

Personally, I think he's on shaky ground for a host of reasons - the main two being the handover timeline and the sacking of Goodwin - and I'd be surprised if he can stay on the board once Smith arrives.

"New voice", clean slate and all that. He's now too associated with the old regime, even if that's a transitional regime.

Just a hunch as obviously none of us know, but it seems like Smith wants to hit the deck running as we have major issues on and off field, members, sponsors etc and it doesn’t appear Green wants to let go, or want to let go. I personally believe Green should be booted altogether, from board and all.

I thought Brad would be relieved to hand the reins over.

During the season he said how he was running his own business & had 3 kids to raise.

I get he wants a say on the new coach, just hope this doesn't all get messy

Also, what happened to the strategic plan? We had one through to 2023 it seems and the board were meant to present a current plan from my research, however did this eventuate? Do we even have a plan? Seems odd after our period of 21-23.

I can understand Green having pulled the lever wants to see it out. It might be prudent, ne savvy though, to NOT be the only one carrying the can.

Brad is indeed a bit Green. Still, I didn't think.he had the stones to push Goody, and he did. 👏

I can only see this all as a very changed dynamic.
