You must be watching and listening to different interviews or shows than I am. He has not exactly been doing a Tom Cruise on Oprah, nor has he been coy and then declared no interest like Simpson and Longmire. I assume he is our preference and I will concede that he has shown more than a mild interest, but I will not be surprised if in the coming weeks he were to come out and say he is not ready to begin coaching again.

Putting aside the financial feasibility that will satisfy him and meet any hurdles within our soft cap, there are definitely many cons that could turn him away. These include perceived board or club instability, the lack of a home base, the unattractiveness of Casey’s location, and any other perceived problems associated with the club.

No doubt there will be pros that appeal to him, but we should not be naive about all the noise, whether genuine or not, that could potentially scare him away.

A lot of these issues, whether perceived or real, might not be a problem for a highly touted assistant who is craving a crack at the big time.

I somewhat disagree. When he had his first segment with GW on SEN he was keen then over the next week he was more reserved with what he said. Who knows the reason for that maybe it was so that he didn’t come across as really keen or something else.

I would be surprised if he didn’t get it but in saying that not much surprises me when it comes to the MFC.

Time will tell.

Simon Goodwins sacking was leaked to the media half way through a zoom meeting letting our senior players know their coach has been sacked.

That’s a monumental governance failing that something like they leaked out.

I can't stand daisy Thomas, but he's right good clubs don't leak - unless they do so strategically.

And by that I mean the executive doesn't leak (hard to stop plsyers leaking but if they are that's a symptom of a problem.

People complain about how we get covered in the media and point out how the cats so often get a pass.

But the reality is the Cats are as tight as a drum and either give the media nothing or give information strategically.

The Cats control the narrative. The evidence is crystal clear we don't.

I'm not fussed that Chaplin ruled himself out. The guy is probably a very good assistant but I think his contribution to our success has been a bit overrated.

The suggestion that he was the architect of our stud backline is a myth. He didn't start the work behind that, Jade Rawlings did. Every week from 15-19 someone on here would say "We need to tell Jade to get lost and take that zone rubbish with him". It was essentially the same system only Jade had Frost and Omac running it. Troy came into the role with May and Lever both returning to form and the emergence of Harrison Petty. He did a great job but the personnel helped.

Good assistant. Will get another job somewhere if not here.

Agree with all that.

I just think we've got an agreement in place with Buckley already. And we had that in place before we sacked Goody.

Can anyone, absolutely anyone, please provide evidence that "we are a mess off the field" as often claimed on Land? Since Green took over, all I've noted is that the Club has resolved one issue after another that had been stinking up the place for years. We are in a substantially better place now than at any time in our recent past. Well done Greeny.

I see your point - perhaps mess is too loaded and over the top.

But I would argue there's plenty of evidence there are many examples of poor governance.

The most important evidence is peformance.

The executive (board and CEO) is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the club, it's goals and the actions to achieve those goals.

All if that is articulated in the Strategic Plan.

I came recall all the goals but i5 included on field success, increased membership, stability and a home training ground.

Of those goals the could perhaps only claim stability as a success, and even then that clutching at straws given:

  • We have an interim president who says he is not an interrom president,

  • We have an acting CEO (who went for the job and didn't get it)

  • The previous given a project management role to land the home base who has apparently departed the club (which i only learnt thru the press ladt week)

  • Our CEO was appointed in April but doesn't start until after the season ends and

  • Our President in waiting also doesn't start 'till seasons end

It was telling that in goody's presser he emphasised how his early success was function of the stability he enjoyed, the inference clearly being he hasn't enjoyed in recent times

There's last years review. How have we gone in terms of implementing its findings, whatever they were.

One outcome of that review was we brought in Darren Shand to improve our on field leadership. That would have cost a pretty penny. How's that working out.

They brought in Jones as a stoppages coach and paired him with another completey inexperienced assistant midfield coach. How's that working out

And on top of all that the board should be judged by its decisions.

One sych decision was in their wisdom they extended Goody's contact and subsequently decided to sack him with a year left on his contract.

We are cash strapped and we are paying Goody a million dollars to sink schooners out at tge Sorrento hotel and get a cushy gig on Fox.

Meanwhile that million comes from our soft cap severely hampering any efforts to surround a new coach with the best possible assistants or address any issues in the FD.

And don't get me started on our comms!

I have been trying to work out for days if Saturdays game is a member replacement game.

Nothing from the club anywhere, no email and nothing on the website. So I assumed it wasn't. Until I got a text at 1pm today. Amateur hour. I mean do they want dees fans to go or not. And how about the value proposition for members?

Thats all on the executive because at the end if the day the bucks stops with them.

So whilst beinf a mess of field might be a litte unfair, our governance is well and truly in the same suburb.

Totally agree. Even the pursuit of cam Bruce I don’t believe would happen without the approval of the new coach who’d want to hand pick any members to his coaching panel he can.

I think the club possibly wants to give the appearance of a thorough process but in reality the decision is made and wheels are already in motion.

the interesting irony would be if this assumption is correct and it hasn’t been leaked that’s at least one positive

Tom Morris broke the news. The question is who leaked it to him?

On Monday night a lot of people would have known: Board member/very senior manager or their partners/families. Goodwin or his partner/family/manager/network. A senior player/assistant coach.

It needn't be someone who leaked to him in the past.

Lever sounded like he was of a mind to find out! But it will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

For all we know Tom Morris sleeps in a bin outside Goody's house.

There was some debate about which ‘journo’ broke the story of Goody’s sacking first. Apparently Jay Clark posted it on that X thing 12 seconds before Morris. Jay wins.

More likely that the board told him to settle down a little bit in the media after that segment. Hence less jumping on couches, Andy.

Denial? I prefer to think of it as not outsourcing my thinking to the freak shows in the media or the loudest voices on 'Land.

Also, I get that reading comprehension isn’t everyone’s strong suit, but spraying out content that doesn’t even graze the question isn’t a “gotcha” — it’s just proof you didn’t understand it in the first place.

The issue is not my ability to comprehend, it's your inability to hear anything critical about the club.

You expressed shock at why we are considered a mess off field, I gave you a raft of reasons. Instead of considering that perhaps the club isn't being run as well as it should be and it's not actually some widespread conspiracy to disparage the MFC you put your fingers in your ears and try to browbeat anyone who provides a response.

So who is being daft? 🙄

2 journos rushing to break it in a tie breaker tells me it was "leaked" at the same time to at least two journos.

I don't think we're in a position to be dictating to a potential big signing to settle down. And I don't think saying the prospect is "compelling" and that he'd "take a call" can be seen as a couch jump moment.

I find it to be a couch jumping moment.

But let's agree to disagree.

If Buckley's comments are a case of divan intervention, you'd have to say sofa so good.
