MFC CEO MIA

It's disappointing that more than a month after announcing Guerra as Melbourne FC's new CEO, he still hasn't officially started in the role. In today's professional sporting environment, and given where our club currently stands, this delay seems unprofessional and shows little consideration for both our membership base and staff.

Can anyone provide insight into what's causing this delay? The lack of communication around the timeline reflects poorly on the club's management during what should be an important transition period.

No it doesn't. This was all covered with the appointment announcements. He starts in September.

Delete thread.

On every media and club report at the time we were told he wasn't starting until September. We'll all be at the snow so I've left a note on his desk telling him to sort out Caulfield or we'll be ramming a stock right up his ginger when we return from the snow. Gee it's a nice desk, Schwabby was there trying to claim it but I gave him back his whiteboard and sent him on his way.

Think its been well documented that he wouldn't be able to start around September.

But what a stuff up. Fancy hiring a new CEO during the season, having taken 6 months to hire a new one, and the new guy can't start for another 6 months.

So should we have settled for the next best option to start right away or wait 6 months for the best option?

We should have gone with our first option.

If he cant start for a coupe of months, in this critical time, to me that means he isnt the right person for the job.

Even if that was the case, no doubt we have agreed to some ridiculous contract clause where we need to pay full ticket for 3 years, even without working a day. Circa Terry Wallace and Sydney Swans when Roos took over.

We should appoint Luke Jackson as Player CEO with $500k of his salary outside of the salary and soft caps and the remainder as player.

What sort of world do you live in?

These highly important roles within businesses have months long termination clauses that employers/employees have to abide by. I’d be more concerned if he was already currently employed and they simply said ‘no worries, you can have him’.

Rubbish. He has a Chamber of Commerce Government job. No doubt there are succession plans. He could definitely leave. He needs to get his priorities right and you need to pull your head in. FYI I live in reality where ones head is not stuck up ones behind.

Not just a ‘government job’ friend, he is head of VECCI who are hosting the World Chambers Congress in September, hence why he can’t just step away and he’d be burning some big bridges if he did - the opposite of what you’d want someone in his position to be doing.

That will come and go and noone will remember it. All deals to be cut are cut prior and its ceremonial cake cutting. He should be behind his desk at the MFC.

In what world, does a person in a position as CEO, regularly start after a month?

Bizarre.

“Yeah, I’ll just hand in my four weeks notice. See you in a month, boys!”

People who hold these positions all have long notice periods, 6-12 months in most cases so there is nothing unusual with the delay

No. What is ridiculous is that we dont have a CEO on thre ground when all this MFC Home base is falling apart. To make it worse he has to be at the Chamber of Commerce for a "Gathering" in 3 months time after appointment.

What if in the unfortunate event he passed away. Would the World Chambers Congress in September not go ahead?

He should be behind the desk.

What sort difference is he going to make if September?

He is. At his current place of employment; like standard practise and convention with regard for the normal context of these contracts.

Its a gov job! He could of left if he wanted to. He is not the CEO of BHP or even a private company. He is certainly replacable. Next drone up! It's ridiculous. He is ticking his own career box at expense of the club.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
