I think Petty is the future solid key back we need to build around, along with Disco and Lever (Possibly also throw Adams)

If we loose another game or two, I'd really like to see Steven May up forward. I hope he's still got a few more years yet, but he's not the future of our backline. He'd probably also enjoy the oppertunity to have some fun and kick a few goals. Could alternatively play JVR and Jeffo up there around him - he'll make them wall taller and I think he'd provide some great on feild coaching to them as well.

Another related question is...who is preferred in the backline: Turner or Petty? I prefer Turner.

Disco showed some impressive albeit irregular flashes as a forward but he has emerged as a very exciting prospect since being moved to defense. Now he's converted those flashes of form into high-level consistently because playing as a defender allows him to utilise his strengths more effectively. In addition to that, the experience of getting to play alongside veterans such as May and Lever is invaluable for Discos development.

Petty's future is likely in defense too but as it presently stands, we have more of a need for him as a key forward. He's no Wayne Carey but he does keep defenders honest due to his size and contested marking ability. I feel like him and Melksham in that forward line together give the entire team a bit of an edge. So I voted Petty in the forward line.

Disco's goal kicking is also pretty solid.

Conversely so was Petty's for a while, but he seems to have lost it.

Honestly think the answer to alot of our goal kicking woes is a switched on sports psychologist.

these stats look weird. PEtty has 1.1 contested marks as average and Turner only has 1.0 and its above average.

0.6 marks inside 50 at below avg to 1 at elite doesnt really make sense either. its essentially an extra mark ever 3 games in real terms.

Could be classed "average" based on the number of games played, perhaps?

Just from the naked eye, in my opinion, Turner is a better mark than Petty

I presumed it's based on position. Petty would be classified as a key forward/defender whereas Turner would be classified as a general forward/defender. So average/above average vs the rest of the competition in those positions.

It's definitely a mind set.

Often you see it in a game when the yips go through the entire team.

But for us, it's been an ongoing case for a long time. I'm sure all.the players are always thinking about it and so it goes.

I'm sure the club has tried various things to fix it.

But we need all the help we can get.

Our finals campaign is over for this year so we need to find out if Jefferson and JVR will be in our future. Petty is the one that has to make way for them in the short term.

I reckon May would kill it as a fwd.

He is probably one of our strongest players in sheer physical strength. He's probably not that fast but apart from Max, would be our best at taking pack marks.

But at 34 next year, he's not really our future gun fwd. He holds his ground better than Petty does. Although I have noticed Petty has been getting a little better in this area. Petty is faster but he seems to get caught out of position too often and the pies games was an example of his opponent getting in front of him.

Maybe with Petty being a natural defender, he is used to playing from behind so he's struggled to overcome this. Petts does have reasonable acceleration for a bloke his height.

Petty does get the ball to ground often enough but I just want a forward who can take more marks and convert well.

And Petty would probably be better than May crumbing. But May reminds me of the old fashioned mold of a full fwd with mass and power but fitter.

May, Fritta and Melksham firing in our fwd line would be ideal for me.

Speaking of our fwd line, I think Sparrow when he does play, should always be in our fwd line. Going off topic but I don't think Sparrow gives enough return in any midfield role.

Sparrow is a strong mark for his size and can kick long and accurately.

sparrow is playing the defensive forward role; sometimes he does it very well and then other times - like vs jaicos on daniher's day - he gets taken to the cleaners

his effort to put pressure on his paramount, but when the game is tight he really doesn't impact enough

Last week Geelong beat the Suns. Go have a look at their 2 worst players on the day. Dangerfield and Cameron. With their best player out in Smith. Its unreal. Its not about depth, a quarter of their team are no names. Scott changes the pieces to fit the jigsaw. We keep trying to jam the piece in. Can you imagine even for a second if Scott was our coach he would be playing this set up week after week. Not a chance. Whos the starting cba 4 this week for them. No idea. Stanley holmes smith knevitt (WHO?!?) atkins. Last year conway bruhn parfit bowes clark. Stewart is the best intercepting rebounder in the game. In 2024 he put him in the midfield.

I voted for Disco to play forward. I think he’s more mobile and a good kick for goal. Petty is a proven key defender.

But I’d bring back Tom McD to CHB, move Lever to back pocket as interceptor and have Petty and Turner as our tall forwards.

I do not understand why Tom was dropped after he’d been such a stalwart and reliable tall defender for most of the first half of this season.

I suspect the argument about position is correct. A KPF is almost always trying to mark the ball. The KPD is often trying to stop his opponent from doing so. Consequently, the KPF should be taking more contested marks than a KPD.
