Gawns idea might have had some merit.... but honestly who the [censored] was he kicking it to. He made an almost identical [censored] up earlier in the game further afield.

He's not that flash at weighting kicks

It's like expecting a fast bowler to be able to bat !!!

Lindsay fine for a tackle that slipped down and a massive Dobby Hill dive is the icing on the officiating [censored] Storm. Nonsense

Actually insane. I don't think I've ever seen slipped tackles sanctioned before.

Yet Hardwicks deliberate grab of Kozzies ankle as he was running into a certain goal didn't get cited.

As pointless as it is I kinda hope we appeal and highlight the ridiculous nature of the charge.

There wasn’t any time for any of this as the umpire inexplicably called play-on before Gawn had a chance to even look around.

Sorry, but the vision is different to Gawn’s recollection. Have a look on afl app for the last two min vid. You can see Gawn take two steps inboard and then the umps hands go up.

I love Gawn, but he had more time before being called to play on. His problem was that no team mate presented so his only option was an impossible kick.

The thing that pisses me off about this game the most besides the umpiring is the demonland response to Gawn and Oliver's kicks at the end of the game.

FfS the season was on the line and we had to go at all costs. Two of the greatest Demons tried and it didn't come off for either but this idea they had to lower their eyes is [censored].

Petracca fumbled and stumbled before he got it to Clarry. Had he not [censored] that up Oliver could have had a proper ping at it and either put us ahead or got a point where we could have forced a kickout, locked the ball in and potentially got another shot on goal.

When Gawn got it we knew the time left and had to go coast to coast. We couldn't be cute about it. Had to go at all costs

They both made the right decision

I think we blew it earlier when Fritsch didn't handball over the top 20m out to Sparrow (I think) running into an empty goal square. That would have sealed it for us.

That cost us the game well before our captain had it on the pies goal line and inexplicably told by the ump to play on.

No they didn’t, Gawn I understand 30sec left, needed to switch the footy to the fat side, Clarrie’s kick absolutely not, over 2 minutes to go and he just bombed it without even looking, not certain who it was (possibly Fritsch) but we had a player free about 35/40m out central a Quick Look inside sees that and Clarrie had time, I get it’s tense and that brings pressure.

He was awesome for the game but that moment was poor, we can’t just say he had no other option then to just get it on the boot

I'm not sure Fritsch is physically capable of clenching his fist to handball, spoil or chase down and grab an opponents jumper. Those mitts are permanently spread open to mark it and drop it onto his boot.

So you're asking a bit too much! laugh

Funny.... I expect everyone on a cricket team to be able to bat

I think May was expecting the pass. Possibly the root of his angst ?

Nope, he went up to the contest but sat front and centre then didn’t move after Gawn went back to take his kick. May should’ve been sprinting up wing to be the next link, but he thought his job was done. Why his angst, we’ll never know, but when May does kick ins it’s always to the one spot so I’m guessing Gawn broke the team rule of down the line but we’ll never truly know.

You're right in that regard..

Trying to see who was on... can't make out the number.

Cheers

All good. I hate not knowing the truth and can’t see any harm in it being in the open, but truth and football are both unrelated in most cases.

The 58kb upload limit makes it very hard to see, also difficult in the original before compressing. They look like they’re leading but there wasn’t really any space and collingwood are very good at pressing up. Gawn needed to take his time but easy to say and hard to do with only 38 seconds to go.

So much scrutiny on 1 minute of the 120 minutes played.

I heard a whisper that some words were said by the Collingwood hierarchy at half time about a certain TOO CLOSE A TAG, directly to the fair play fraternity while they were relaxing 😌 for the second half.

Nothing changed did it??

So we agree then. Disco stays back. Excellent.

Draft for talent, trade for need. There has to be some uncut diamond out there wanting a crack at senior footy. Without doing any research, you’d have to think GC, Brisbane or Freo would have some young key forwards that are looking at options.

so a Kenterfield, Johnson type?? Unfortunately, they are like diamonds, and you have to get lucky. Brisbane defiantly don't they are struggling in that area after Daniher retired.

We were keen on Wade Derksen from GWS in the trade period but GWS wouldn't let him go, he plays defence atm but also played forward as a jnr and when he first got to GWS. Be interesting if they go for him again now he is out of contract.

I'll definitely try to find some better vision as someone was definitely on ( I.e no within 5m ) directly across from gawn about 30 m away.

Not saying any other kick would have led to a better outcome but 38 secs is more than enough time to have it in the hands of a melb player at the other end 30/40 m out. It is.

The thing is the game dud come down to that last minute . Going skinny was a death knell, going fat made sense. Gawns kick didn't. Whether anyone likes it or nor, whether Max likes it or not that kick didn't help, in fact it guaranteed the Filth won. The loss isn't on Max...but a lost opportunity most certainly is. All players have that looking over their shoulder.

Given, as you indicate where May indeed was he probably could see the kick Max might have made. Is it possible this was what was conveyed ?

I dunno, am only speculating. One thing for sure May wasn't remonstrating about nothing.

New here, love the chat and opinions.

Something from the weekend that really annoyed me was Petty"s lack of effort (yet again). I just don't understand how he keeps getting games. Low player ratings, rarely takes a contested mark, rarely kicks straight and has poor body language a lot of the time. He only gets a kick when he attracts a free. What am I missing?! How has he not been dropped?!

Welcome.... prepare to have your head done in as we all bash ours against walls lol.

Petty.. lives and breathes as do many because the list doesn't provide options.

Petty a possibly good( enough ) 2nd forward often.playing the #1 kpf role and gets attention 🙄

I'm not a particular fan... but I see the problem

Frittas game.

A slow srta with a lot of effort.

Then some consistent errors.

Then some decent time of brilliance.

Followed by what can be considered as over confidence.

He could have handballed or chip kicked on two occasions that would have been definite goals.

A bot like Kozzie who gets a rush of blood to the head.

But kps manic play on and super confidence probably gets a pass given how many he does kick.

And Fritta who has been struggling probably should have tempered his game.

But it's a fine line when freakishly good players are on. Maybe it's that bravado that makes them impact games at times.

Can you name an example of any club call8ng the AFL out, or even publicly criticising the umpiring?

James Hird back in the day certainly did.

Not going to give you time and date mate.

I've recalled both Coaches mentioning the umpiring in less than cryptic terms.

Maybe you can pay more attention 🤔🤷‍♂️

I’ve seen an ‘angrier’ reaction from Max when he lovingly shoved Goody as hard as he could with a mighty angry look in his eye after the Brisbane win.

Saw him do that to Turner on Monday. Loving, ''aggressive' series of pushes to say "that was your goal - your intercept position created that".

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
