Ghostwriter is having technical difficulties with the new site and has asked me to forward her report/s from today:

Leb back this week, the blister on his heel has healed and the infection has cleared up, and yes I told him to stop wearing sneakers without socks.

X defs back for gather round

TC came out with the seniors not the Casey boys

Not a soccer ball in sight

lots of goal kicking practice

No Ricky Lever

Luker two weeks away

Jai playing for Casey tomorrow

I hope Tom Campbell plays tommorrow he is a much better player than Aiden Johnson!

Absent: Lever, Jefferson, Hore, Woewodin

As the session ended Lever walked out from AAMI, chatted briefly to the phyio staff and walked back so, unless he is a test tomorrow, I would suggest he will not be playing tomorrow night.

Based on the split between the Casey group and the main group I would expect:

In: Spargo, Turner, Windsor, Pickett

Out: Billings, Howes, Johnson, Lindsay (inj).

Campbell did come out with the main group, but was doing some supervised drills and running, so I don't think he is the 23.

I did see a couple of soccer balls, but no organised soccer game this morning.

With Lever in doubt, the only change in the backs will be Windsor in for Howes.

In my view, this would be a real concern. Windsor is a terrific player, but I am not at all convinced that he is a half back, particularly defensively, and Geelong's half forwards are extremely dangerous and need close checking. I don't think Howes is the answer either, but would rather rely on Salem, rivers and Bowser as smaller half backs.

Maybe they will? Although I would rather Rivers gets a shot at what he has trained over the summer, i.e. through the midfield...

Agreed, but i'd be happy if they said "one more week" to Riv, promising him back to midfield next week when Lever is back.

Or when McVee is back

To allow for rotations, we always play 4 smaller backmen and 3 talls. I expect Rivers will remain with the defenders until there are 4 other viable options to choose from.

he was fine at half back against GWS who's half forwards are just as if not more damaging then Gee

When he was on Toby Greene, I think Toby had his number - not that that is any disgrace. But I don't think he was very good defensively against GWS.

So who plays on Stengle? I'd be surprised if Howes comes out mate, but we'll see.

Lever and May haven't played a full game together since the GWS game in round 19 last year. It's no wonder our defence has been disorganised and a shambles.

Expect Miers, Close Stengle and Mannagh to have an absolute picnic.

Agree on the calls for TC to come in. We need someone to throw some weight around and give Max a serious back up. He would make us slower but Kozzy, Leb and Disco make up for that somewhat

If and it’s still an if we’re watching the end of May, which I suspect we are, we need to get games into Adam’s. Our defence is still sound albeit under pressure and not providing great rebound without McVee and Windsor. A defence of

Adam’s Petty Howes

Windsor Lever McVee

Is fine if both Adam’s and Howes develop or are replaced. Adam’s is unknown at AFL level and if he doesn’t make it Turner is currently the replacement leaving us a bit thin up forward unless Jefferson makes it alongside JVR.

Playing Tom Campbell would be so pointless. Have we learned nothing from the Grundy experiment?

Maybe Gawn isn't at 100%.

They might want to play TC for a game here and there to reduce Gawns TOG or rest him up forward to keep him going throughout the year rather than just rest him all together.

I actually don't mind him having a chop out here and there to prolong him further.

Also, interestingly, TC averages more contested marks and more goals per game then Grundy. Obviously Grundy is the better ruckman when he's on, playing as a 4th midfielder.

Still - as we all know, the cats will be walking the pill out of the backline with TC or Gawn attempting some defensive pressure.....

Not sure we should throw Adams to the wolves. Sounds like he’s getting close and they posted a video of him the other day, which you imagine is to wet the appetite of supporters.

I can see him getting a game before seasons end, but probably not quite yet. Never know though I guess.

If that's the case then Gawn should be rested until he's right to go. Structurally playing two rucks who can't play any other position is a waste of a spot in the team.

Right to go? He is 33, can't jump for at least the last 4 years, cant run...if he can make it down the race you play him, just dont expect him to dominate

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
