Thilthorpe is a good example of why some Melbourne fans need to lay off our own young full-forward. Van Rooyen had shown more than Thilthorpe prior to this season and now Thilthorpe has absolutely exploded. It helps being in a good team, and with Melbourne's almost historically bad inside forward 50 efficiency combined with the fact he doesn't have a Tex Walker to learn from or to take attention from defenders, his job isn't an easy one.

Not saying there aren't areas he can't improve significantly but he's still only 21 and is being asked a lot of for someone in their 3rd season.

Massive queues reported at the MCG due to enhanced security checks. Pictures of lines snaking 200 metres into the parklands

If you're going to change the system you can't exactly do it overnight.

Went to the world cup in Russia where security was tight. Incredibly well organised but added 45 minutes to the entry process

What umpires have we got officiating our game.

That last qtr GC17 recieved every decision go there way.

How can you tackles someone mid air in a marking situation.

Just shows how the AFL has zero integrity. Manipulating results and never called to account.

Feels like there are more green shoots for Richmond compared to the dees …. 😭

Agree. I also think they could knock us off with today’s performance.

Travelling down from Brisbane with the family for the Anzac eve game…I hope we get our Sh&t together before then 😬

I like the father/son tradition we have but gee I hate seeing other clubs do well and we don't.

Don't get me wrong Jack has been great but we got a bit dudded with Billy stretch and Joel Smith well we know how that ended.

But I'm watching the ashcroft brothers come in & make an impact, Darcy doing his craft at the dogs & well we know about the daicos brothers.

Can we beat the Tigers? They move the ball better than us right now.

They kicked 13 goals

We can only dream of doing that right now…

Should have moved on to Yze when we had the chance.

Sliding doors moment that was never going to happen after 2023.

I reckon we are gone against them.

You can just see the headlines written up already for that one.

Umps getting North back in the game

Sydney showing how bad North still are vis a vis how bad we currently are.

If you evaluate Richmond and Melbourne’s start to the season, you’d have Richmond starting as favourites on Anzac Eve.

We’ll be lucky to score 90 points in a game this year and Richmond just did it against the reigning premier.

A poor win by Brisbane, but they’re correctly cruising in the young season.

It’s funny how at the time Norf supporters thought beating us was ‘taking a scalp’ .. ohhh how wrong they were.

Their “arrival” is now a mirage considering how horrific we are at the moment.

Gotta admit, I love watching and take a lot of joy in opposition fans pain aka Carlton, North Melbourne, Essendon…. 🤣😂

At least we had a flag and a good 4 year run.

With how bad we are now, I find myself cheering against these types of teams hoping for more years in the doldrums achieving nothing and seeing meltdowns.

North were horrific last night. I gave them a chance. I know sydney had some good players in still but they're missing a lot of good players.

It also showed how horrific we are

He plays in a very different side.

He has Walker and Fogarty (and Curtain) presenting as marking options around him.

JVR has Turner (a defender with, what, 15 games experience as a forward), Jeffo (1 game experience) or AJ (2 games experience) for support, and at times when we go with two talls, he has no one.

Which raises an interesting point. So many on here have argued that because Hawthorn have just Chol, that we should be going with fewer tall forwards, not more. But there are plenty of sides who are going with 3 talls and succeeding. Adelaide is one, Sydney is another (they went into last night with Amartey, McLean and Ladhams, alongside Grundy). Both Adelaide and Sydney move the ball with pace, like Hawthorn, but kick big scores with tall forwards. Brisbane won the flag last year with Daniher, Hipwood and Morris, too.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
