Definitely don’t disagree but as someone working in that space the general rule of thumb is that the first narrative put out on something this arbitrary is typically the most widely seen and believed—even if later potentially shown to be BS most people have already moved onto the next thing and will never come back to the story. So the first thing they read sticks and whatever comes next (if they even see it) elicits a mild shrug.

Best recent examples of this strategy come from a lot of the things said by a certain orange man on the other side of the pacific.

Flood the zone with excrement, hey?

Im finding it difficult now to not think of Brad Green or Goody for things that may have nothing to do with them.

Its the "Love" angle that bothers me.

I shouldn’t have been so quick to post what someone I only met a fortnight ago told me. This person who said he was in the rooms and heard the speech is now not replying to my calls/texts which is suss. Further, this morning I asked Harvey about the speech and he said, “I didn’t hear any speech. I heard about a speech but I didn’t hear a speech.”

Apologies for quoting someone who clearly had a reason to spread mistruths. I don’t know his reason for such but there must be a reason.

Edit: I’ve got a feeling Morris is behind this.

No problem. I would rather believe you and your sources who are usually quite reliable than Morris.

Actually I think it quite funny that he has been caught out; hoisted by his own petard so to speak!

Mighty Dees Gawn, Oliver, Fritsch, Van Roo LIVE at Matthe...

Dees Fans! You're invited to see Mighty Dees Gawn, Oliver, Fritsch, Van RooLIVE at Matthew Flinders Hotel, Chadstone!

Anyone going to this, might get some current insight to Clarry

I went to one about a month ago (right before the season started) with Max, Clarry, and Maysy. They didn’t talk at all about upcoming trades etc. More stories about the team, they talked a little bit about May becoming a dad. The guy running it said something about Clarry not having kids “that he knows of” and an older lady kind of raised her hand which was hilarious. Max was asked who had the best preseason or something like that and he didn’t say anything at first, but was looking kind of sideways at Clarry and then pointed to him. They talked about their pre-game chess matches and Clarry being like one of his kids. Claz didn’t talk too much during it—not surprising as he doesn’t seem to like public speaking. We had a photo with them and what struck me was first how tall they all are and how polite Clarry was. Weird observation, I know.

Just lean into it.

I’m choosing to believe Tracc started doing the nut bush and everyone in the rooms followed suit for 45 minutes straight.

Or it did happen as initially reported and the leak has been plugged as it wasn’t meant to get out.

I'm speechless.

Who does it help to deny this? It obviously didn't happen as reported. Morris had a bad source and didn't follow up with anyone from the club.

I'm telling you this is the easiest way to find out who's been leaking.

Tell one person it was trac making a speech

Tell another it was max

Tell a 3rd it was jack viney

See who Morris says it was and bingo you've got your leaker.

I think Russia-gate is the example you are looking for.

Ain't no one caring about Gawn or Viney making a post game speech.

Remember, the best speeches are the ones you don’t make.

What did Wayne Gretzky say again? You miss 100% of the speeches you don't make?

It would probably get mentioned though just not as a big story

Appreciate your enthusiasm but I'd be shocked if anyone knew right now.

It has bugger all to do with my enthusiasm. If Clarrie leaves at year’s end it will be because the club has booted him.

Yeah, nah. The Captain or Vice Captain addressing the players after a game is not a story at all. I doubt someone would even think to 'leak' something like that it's such a non-event. Petracca giving a speech was only a little story because of everything that happened last year.

If you're trying to catch a rat, you need better bait.

Trac for Captain…

As Lever is so injury prone I can’t think of who else could take over from Max

We are running thin on leadership

If we make finals, I’ll be saying it was due to Trac’s speech

whether is actually happened or not

Randomly-timed piece from Peter Ryan, who generally likes sticking the boot into us.

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/petracca-helped-melbourne-realise-a-need-for-change-can-they-keep-it-going-20250422-p5ltfv.html

"Petracca married Bella Beischer in front of friends and teammates in December and changed management groups. His approach in 2025 is uncomplicated, with playing and training at the centre of his existence.

“Any time you have trauma from an injury perspective that Christian has had, it can take time. He’s had a pre-season. He’s had five games or six games to get himself going. His game’s in good shape, and it’s only going to get better. We’re actually really enjoying what he’s doing,” Goodwin said on Tuesday.

They aren’t just empty words from the club. Two sources, who preferred to remain anonymous so they could speak freely about the issue, verified that Petracca’s commitment is genuine.

They think the focus on Petracca has been unfair, and he copped unnecessary heat at a time when his only objective has been to help Melbourne become an environment where everyone can flourish.

His professionalism and ambition have never been questioned, although he has never been one to spend more time than needed at a football club. His on-the-go personality makes him as hard to pin down as a mosquito inside a tent.

The athlete, who is well known for his love of cooking, is still entertaining his 528,000 Instagram followers with his recipes.

But this season, according to a club source, Petracca has made a noticeable effort to stay engaged as the club delved into the emotional as much as the technical to bring about change."

Just read the article. There's a headline about some senior players meeting at Maxy's wine bar but 99% of it is just padding based on bits and pieces cobbled together from other stories over the last year. Even the meeting isn't elaborated on. He also stated that Trac declined an interview.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
