Pass. Donโ€™t need another slow and old player.

Ok, pick 52 plus Sparrow and Laurie.

How about we just hold Trac and Clarry to their contracts.

There is a reason why the Saints want to let Jack Steele go. But nothing surprises me when it comes to our recruitment of players from other clubs.

Saints don't exactly have a stellar midfield so why is he being squeezed out?
I'd suggest one paced and lacks flexibility which in an era when every rule change is to open up the game and make it quicker ain't a great calling card.

Considering that GC don't need their picks, just the points that they hold

If we aren't getting any players back, I could see a world where they pay overs on Trac to get him across.

We could package up later picks with points (a couple of 2nd round picks from both Spargo and McVee) for them to trade us 3 first round picks. As far as I understand, GC already have enough points to match their academy players, so if we traded them a decent amount of points back, then they are on the way to getting Trac and their academy players.

Would look something like this:

St Kilda: Pick 7 <-> GC: Sam Flanders

Freo: Pick 30 & Pick 39 <-> Melb: Judd McVee

Spargo Compensation: Pick 38

Melb: Trac, Pick 24, Pick 30, Pick 38, Pick 39 <-> GC: Pick 6, Pick 7, Pick 13

GC Points at start of trade period: 4,139

GC points after Trade: 3024

GC can then get more points through Budarick, Fiorini, and Rosas. Only really need a couple of 2nd round picks to have enough for bids at Pick 2 and 3.

He's being cut because they've just spent 4.5 million on a huge shopping spree and his midfield role is being changed with Windhager in there, Flanders potentially and NAS as well.

He's a solid citizen, squeaky clean off the field, still a very solid player when fit, AFL captain experience and leadership and very likely the Saints would pitch in.

Not every recruit can be a big name, if we wanna re-shape the culture, a Jack Steele on 500-600k is someone who can help with that in a similar way to Bernie Vince or Jordan Lewis when we recruited them.

Steeles wages to much for Nas and De Koning etc

Bad time to be a big slow inside mid

Cripps would get a 4th round pick right now

GCS are the perfect team to push for a good deal. They have no need for pick 7 as they have Academy priority picks which we can probably satisfy from our Spargo and McVee trades.

We need a player or a pick that we can trade for a player plus pick 7.

Very surprised Tracc is prepared to go to the Suns. He really is desperate to leave and the Suns are the only ones who can get it done. On the flip side he's not rated by the competition given no ones willingness to endure a risk (player trade etc) to get him.

A disappointing end but that's footy and business as usual at MFC

Trac wants success and to be remembers as a HoF'er. The Suns present that opportunity, being part of their inaugural flag and potentially more in addition to 2021 helps his legacy. I think this is the main driver for him, he wants success and can see it won't happen at the MFC in the next couple of years - the other stuff is just noise.

Another captain to move clubs then. What has this league come to?! Such a steep decline in a once great sporting league. Can anyone genuinely say that AFL is superior now to any years gone by?

I literally canโ€™t believe the fall. Cats and Pies both had a down year after their flag but were back in the final 4 this year. Lions didnโ€™t have a down year, just won back to back flags on the G.

Drafting has been excellent, but trading has been pox. We still had I think 16/23 premiership players on the list this year and were lucky to finish above the bottom 4. Itโ€™s been a massive failure by the coach (aided by the board letting him drive the bus off the cliff) and list management to not keep us in the hunt after 21. We were close in 23 but failed and now weโ€™re blowing up the list for a rebuild.

Frankly I cbf anymore. Tuned out of anything related to the AFLM team after the Port game and am just drifting back now.

What do we get for Trac? Whatever we can, would like Humphreys but am not confident. Likely 2 picks.

Clarry? Not sure heโ€™s gone yet but again likely just a pick if he does go.

Weโ€™re a bit stuck as this isnโ€™t a great draft by all accounts but thereโ€™s this draft and next and Tassie is getting all the picks after that so we need to make the best of it while we can. Think weโ€™re in for another long stint in the wilderness tbh and Iโ€™m not sure i have the desire to stick through it again.

Apologies for the miserable post but thatโ€™s where Iโ€™m at.

Wait until you realise Langford and Lindsay are OOC when Tassie are able to raid players from clubs ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Imagine losing Trac and Oliver for three [censored] draft picks.

That would be so Melbourne.

And there it all was, in 2017, more about himself than team success. A lot of talk and what now looks like self centred perhaps. Thanks for helping win the flag, but seeya Christian.

Please no. We need young talent who are excited about taking on what will no doubt be a challenging period.

I assume you don't support us recruiting Brody Mihocek either?

We still have Viney and Sparrow on our list, and weโ€™ve moved on two โ€˜bullsโ€™ in Petracca and Oliver (likely). Although Steele might be a good corporate citizen, heโ€™s another that the game has moved past.

We need to be building for the future, not treading water.

If Viney was also to depart, I wouldnโ€™t be opposed to what youโ€™re suggesting, but bringing in Steele will harm a rotation of Rivers, Koz, Langford, Lindsay and Windsor.

That Judd was moving to Perth was reported to the media for a very long time and everything said would happen regarding McVee did.

Enough of the character assassination please.

Jack Steele currently on around 900

We could not make finals in last 2 years with Petracca and Oliver, both had their issues, we got the best years out of both. It's a new club now and new agenda. Happy to move on and see where this new look takes us

Brody is different, heโ€™s a forward and not a ball user.

We need a fast midfield. We already have three slow midfielders and two have been told theyโ€™re free to leave.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
