Why on earth is he the forwards coach? Never played forward in his life. I can't believe we can't find a forwards coach that played as a forward. He will end Goodwin's career, no wonder Fritsch, Turner and van Rooyen look clueless out there you can't teach something you have never experienced.

Finally we come to Chaplin. If I was Fritta I’d be saying if that’s the way you want me to play I’ll look for a new club.
And yes why Goodwin puts up with coping all the blame for a loss when this bloke mucks the forward line up.

What’s the rationale as to why he is a forward coach? As in, how does a career defender beat out or demonstrate expertise  over other forwards coaches that have played the position?

Does playing in that position have a bearing on the quality of your coaching?

Looking at the last two premiership teams,:

Brisbane Lions forward coach last year was someone called Murray Davis, who had previously coached their backline for a decade.

Collingwood forwards coach the year before was Justin Leppitsch, who made his name in the Lions 3-peat as a centre half back.

I dont think we can blame Chaplin just yet. perhaps its the forwards that are choosing not to lead. or the midfielders not wanting to honour the lead.

Blaming Troy Chaplin for Melbourne's forward line woes when he's been in charge of the most reliable part of Melbourne's game up until this season is pretty harsh.

He's the forward line coach this season because he's done a stellar job as a defensive coach in previous seasons. When the midfielders learn to lower their eyes and hit their targets, it'll make everybody else's job easier.

Chaplin oversaw the highest scoring forwardline in the league in 2018.

It's Round 2.

You don't know what you're talking about.

4 more losses in a row and I'd be in his ear to coach the club. #OffTopic

Leppitsch started as a forward but I don't know who Davis is. My honest opinion on coaches is most of them aren't worth a pinch of salt. It's the players, but you can't sack 18 players for woeful performances like the one against Norf but you can sack the one coach. Saying that Mitchell has got Hawthorn performing I don't think they have a better list than us but they are playing a whole lot better than us. I'm not saying Goodwin is a bad coach I'm saying coaches have time limits and he has got the best out of us he won a premiership, but like Clarkson and Longmire he can no longer get the best out of us. Change is inevitable I just hope we don't hold on to him and let slip a perfect candidate in Longmire.

Are we gonna have a new thread for every individual member of the coaching staff after yesterday’s loss? Instead, how about we put them all in the one thread and call it, for example, “Dees coaches are pathetic”

🙄🙄🙄

You have to be kidding he was a disaster at Brisbane. Like Voss and Brad Scott they won't learn from their mistakes. Personally I would hold onto Goodwin if there wasn't a suitable candidate like Longmire. A reject coach or a new coach wouldn't be suitable for us. A coach that has been there done that is what we should be after like Longmire and what Norf did with Clarkson.

Nah just Chaplin. Jones and Bassett are safe because they are new and at least they played the position they are coaching. I'm old skool the coach has to play that position to coach it for some reason it has changed and I don't like it.

I think the boot studder has a lot to answer for.  Why has he escaped scrutiny?

Big difference one is the gameplan, two the players they had to work with we have had this problem for 3 years it's not like it just started this year, and what doesn't help is a one paced midfield with poor football decision making and poor football skills by hand and foot, if and I mean if this season becomes a complete mess I would be looking to trade some bigger names out to get what we need, before tasmania come in.

And yet he's the forward coach the buck stops there full stop.

Blame the guy who's done the job for really short time over the head coach who has overseen 3 years of the same diabolical output from the forward line? that's super harsh in my opinion.

Maybe it's not the line coaches who are the issue when we have all the exact same issues that we did in years gone by with different coaches.

Such a fallacious argument that has zero basis in fact.

Assistants just do what the head coach wants them to do. My guess is Goodwin wants us to kick to a pack at the top of the goalsquare as part of his game plan so that’s what Chaplin is coaching them to do.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
