Footygoss has a feature called BEST OF THE '06 DRAFT SO FAR and Ricky Petterd is considered fourth best.

4. Pick No. 30 Ricky Petterd (Melbourne) – Starred in his debut against Sydney in Round 5 and continued his good form against Port Adelaide in the following match. Looks like a poised player already. Averaging 17 disposals per game.

Best game: Rd 5 v Sydney: 20 possessions, one goal

The articles says that only four of the top ten selections have made their debuts at the half way point of the year, while some of the lower selections like the number one selection, Alwyn Davey (No 36 pick), have had an immediate impact.

CAC does it again

By the way, he should be higher on the list , poissibly even number 1

After reading the article I can not see why Ricky isnt rated higher. He has averaged the most disposals out of all of the mentioned.

Ricky has been great.

But saying that one player is better than another simply because of the number of possessions they get is nonsense.

I wonder why we did not take the option on Alwyn when we had the chance??

When you say 'had the chance', our chance was to draft him at 12 (which we used for Frawley) or 30 (Petterd). I wouldn't be giving up either for Davey. Good luck to him at Essendon, but with his older brother, we have the upgrade on Alwyn.

Think Krypton may have been referring to the end of the 05 season when he trained with us

No worries.

In any event, I'm not unhappy we didn't end up with Alwyn. As fun as it would be for a while to see the two Daveys running around the ground like rabid mongeese mowing down opponents together, I don't like the idea of having two so very slightly built players in the one part of the ground doing a very similar job.

The instant need to grade drafts is one of my pet peeves, we are 11 rounds into the season and I don't know why we are ranking them. Maybe they should have done an article about some of the surprise packets like Nathan Krakour instead.

too bad davey cant win rising star, havent seen much of hawkins yet

Hawkins killed us. 4 goals in the second quarter. They must have a selective breeding policy down there with all their top quality F/S selections...

Was Jake King from Richmond drafted last year? If so id say he should be higher on the list then Krakour and Lindsay Thomas. Not so much for potential but King has played good consistent footy since his debut.

can u bet on the rising star award, id be putting money on pettle for sure

YOu can.....I believe sportsbet have a book going.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
