can't see us going with all of jvr, fritsch, turner, jefferson, and johnson

if latter two are playing, i'm assuming at least one of the first three aren't

i presume jvr has not come up from his back issue

He trained and did match sim since Freo game moving freely I believe.

Kozzy is obviously a major out, and it seemed like AMW was having a good pre-season, but who else? I like these inclusions, but I think they're a clear sign that our existing depth wasn't cutting it.

Does the Sub come from the emergencies or someone named in the final side?

Tall Emergency list for a wet weather game but I guess it covers all lines.

No, those three names won’t be playing.

For ease of understanding, Jeffo replaces Turner in selected on field team

Bench is Langford, Lindsay, AJ, Henderson and Sharp. One of these likely sub

Assuming Billings isn't playing I reckon one or both of the Langdon and Windsor experiments won't be continuing. I expected Billings to be one of our wingers to start the season.

I'm not sure about that. Maybe Goody has listened to Daniel Hoyne and we're looking for a Dan Houston sort of player - run and boot it long (and directed) inside the F50.

I don't think Jefferson is being set-up for success in this match, given form had just been OK, and its in the wet.

Likely red vest IMO- but go well son.

Spargo and McAdam the natural Kozzy replacements, both n/a. Hence why Henderson and Sharp will spend time in the fwd line. The existing depth is there, just not for Rnd1

Been told that Turner has been left out of team. Was named “on-ground” last night because if they had named Jeffo or AJ then the surprise of their debut announcement would have been ruined.

All debutants got told this morning

JVR, Jeffo, AJ are the 3 key forwards

T-Mac, Billings and Turner are the emergencies.

Gotta say...I do love that forward line!

Interesting shake up from conservative match day selections, but guess that's a little forced with some injuries/suspensions.

Agreed. Great to see guys get an opportunity and the depth will hopefully force healthy competition for spots and translate to improved team performance. Hope to see more integrity around selection this year. Reward those at Casey banging down the door and stop selecting guys coming off long injury lay offs that are clearly under done or still not 100%

Disco a shining light last season now can't get a gig. Quite shocked!

Not sure you want a bloke who can only play one position as your sub.

I know it's his nickname, but if I was the club socials, I'd leave it out for now haja

Kozzie Suspension.
NQR: Spargo
Injured: McAdam, McVee, AMZ, Tholstrup, Melksham, Hore
Injured (Depth): Kentfield, Culley
And I know he's left but ANB left a hole for Sharp etc.

You'd assume Kozzie, Spargo, Kozzie, McVee, Kolt would be in the Best line up if available. That may force players like Howes out of the team when they return, we'll have to wait and see

I like Disco but he had two practice matches to forget

Perhaps Jefferson has trained better since then and the FD is happy to roll the dice?

Well, he’s managed to make himself appear out of nowhere on the MCG.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
