A major software update to the website is coming

This software update will require all users to log in using their registered email address instead of their username whenever they are logged out.

This is simply a login requirement—your email address will remain private. Once you're logged in, you won’t need to log in again unless you log out or access the site from a new device.

Going forward any time that you have to log in to Demonland you will have to use the email address that is registered to Demonland to log in rather than using your Username which has been the way you have logged in in the past.

This change appears to be a security measure as part of the new major software update and not something I’ve personally chosen.

Most website functions will remain the same, though there will be some cosmetic updates. Initially, all customizations (such as colors and the look and feel of the site) will revert to the default look, but I’ll gradually restore most of them them over time.

Additionally, some third-party add-ons I’ve implemented over the years will no longer work immediately after the update. The site will essentially start fresh in that regard, and I’ll reintroduce features as I go.

The most important thing is that all content will still be there and you will be able to post as normal which is the main feature of the site. All the rest is just cosmetic which I will play around with once the new software is installed.

To be clear all the past posting history will remain the website might just look and feel slightly different but basic functionality of the message board format will remain.

This upgrade is necessary because the current software will no longer be supported and the new software may bring some other improvements and features over time.

To ensure a smooth transition, please make sure your email address is up to date—this is important in case you ever need to recover your account.

When updating your email address in your profile you will probably be required to validate your new email address. If a validation email does not arrive in your inbox then please check your junk folder as it might have ended up there. If the email is not in your junk folder then please contact me and I will manually change it for you.

Please attempt to change it yourself before messaging me to assist.

I don't have a timeframe for the installation of the new software as I am waiting to hear back from @Nasher to assist me in this process as the initial installation isn't just a software update like on your phone. It requires the technical magic that only @Nasher can provide. Future incremental updates will be easier.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we enter the 25th year of Demonland.

You can find out what your current email address associated with Demonland is by going to your Profile and then Account Settings. You can also Change it there to your current email address.

If anyone doesn't know, you can find (and change if necessary) your email address in your account settings.

After nearly 25 years of demonland, I can't believe I still have access to that email account!

If you are logged in, from the menu (top right 3-line icon on a phone, go to "Account", then select "Account Settings". You'll see an option to change your email. The validation email is sent to the new address so you don't need to access your old address.

This is a good time to thank Andy, Nasher and everyone else who makes this site run so smoothly.

I couldn’t agree more LDC.  It’s far too easy to take this wonderful site for granted, and to ignore the enormous effort that it takes by a plethora of people, to keep it up and going.  As an interstate member, Demonland is my lifeline to the real world of the MFC and the AFL.

Thanks Andy (and Nasher, et al) for keeping this site up and running for all this time. I recently did an online survey that asked me if I was still a member of any non-Reddit/social media/Facebook forum (you know, the kind everyone was a part of back in the good old days before the internet took a turn for the worse). I was proud to answer "YES!" thanks to this site.

For those wanting to check their profile to confirm their email is right, you should be able to follow this link to make the required change:

25 Years is a great knock.

Do we have an idea of some of the oldest posters .

Well time since they first posted.....not their age.

Thanks for helping me stay ( somewhat) sane.

Can someone please implement an Academy award style awards for posts?

25 years is an amazing achievement.

Congratulations @Demonland! ❤️💙

Anyway, I have updated my email address, so I shall be ready for whenever the imminent changeover is scheduled to happen.

Still waiting to hear back from @Nasher. I haven't heard back from him through any of the lines of communication that I have with him. I hope everything is ok.

This October will also be 20 years on the Invision platform too. Or more to the point, 20 years since my 21 year old self, 6 months in to an IT career, somehow convinced you and Finks that I knew what I was talking about enough to set up and run a system like this one.

It’s been a journey!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
