He was a good contributor in 2019, then was basically injured for the entirety of 2020 and 2021. We redrafted him and (shock) he was injured again for most of 2024.

What did we possibly think was going to happen in 2025, other than him being injured for most of the year?

At some point the club has to recognise that guys like Hore and McAdam simply aren't built to play AFL.

hore had a very strong season in the vfl in between stints at the mfc

maybe we're the problem

Sadly, Marty Hore is out for the season and beyond but there’s better news on other fronts.

Harry Petty — concussion / 1 week

Oliver Sestan — hamstring / 1 week

Ollie Sestan was one week last week. What's happened? I want to see him pushing for ones again!!!

Oliver Sestan due to return after a lengthy lay off with a hammy.'

Injury List: Round 19

Oliver Sestan — hamstring / Available

Aidan Johnson — ankle / Test

Harry Petty — concussion / Test

Tom Sparrow —concussion / 1 - 2 weeks

Jake Lever — ankle/ TBC

Marty Hore — knee, shoulder / season

Shane McAdam — Achilles / season

Andy Moniz-Wakefield — knee / season

Thanks for the update Chelly, a bit sad for Rick that ankle/ foot issue has really affected his 2025, let’s hope they keep him out until it is back to 100%.

Time to put Lever on ice for the remainder of the season. Get him 100% right for day one of pre season.

I'd bring May back in for Lever and bring Petty back through the twos.

I also wouldn't be dropping JVR or Jeffo the rest of this season, unless through injury or needing a rest.

If they are both fit then potentially Petty can come back in as a key defender.

Oliver Sestan has incurred a further injury after recovering from a hamstring. He received a knock to his face at training resulting in a fracture to part of his face which required surgery. He’s expected to be out for four weeks.

Injury List: Round 20

Tom Sparrow — concussion / Test

Jack Henderson — groin / 1 week

Steven May — concussion / 1 - 2 weeks

Oliver Sestan — face / 4 weeks

Jake Lever — ankle/ TBC

Marty Hore — knee, shoulder / season

Shane McAdam — Achilles / season

Andy Moniz-Wakefield — knee / season

Yesss, good to see a few coming back in. Hopefully Aiden Johnson gets called back Up after his strong performance, I love the fire and bullishness he brings!

Injury and Suspension List: Round 21

Jack Henderson — groin / Test

Steven May — concussion, suspension / 2 weeks

Oliver Sestan — face / 3 weeks

Jake Lever — ankle/ TBC

Marty Hore — knee, shoulder / season

Shane McAdam — Achilles / season

Andy Moniz-Wakefield — knee / season

Surely they can rule Lever out for the season. What benefit would there be to bringing him back in this year instead of having a look at Adams?

Despite a shocker of a year, one positive (I’m clutching at straws) would seem that we have had very few soft tissue injuries, or injuries at all if you take out those to AMW and McAdam. Which must put the heat on other factors of why we’ve only won 6 games. I know fitness is talked about ad nauseum but I just can’t fathom why a professional football club is not fit. Is it attitude to not go the extra yard when you are hurting, is it abdicating responsibility to other players who are on the big bucks but who are also not performing? Or is the answer a pineapple? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Injury and Suspension List: Round 22

Jack Henderson — groin / Available

Steven May — suspension / 1 week

Oliver Sestan — face / 2 weeks

Jake Lever — ankle/ TBC

Marty Hore — knee, shoulder / season

Shane McAdam — Achilles / season

Andy Moniz-Wakefield — knee / season

I thought May had now served out his suspension

He was suspended for three matches. This is the last week of his suspension.

Didnt that get downgraded to 2 weeks?

Injury List: Round 23

Xavier Lindsay — groin / 1 week

Oliver Sestan — face / 1 week

Marty Hore — knee, shoulder / season

Jake Lever — ankle/ season

Shane McAdam — Achilles / season

Andy Moniz-Wakefield — knee / season

Caleb Windsor — hamstring / seaso

Injury List: Round 24

Oliver Sestan — face / available

Jack Henderson — groin / TBC

Matt Jefferson — toe / TBC

Marty Hore — knee, shoulder / season

Jake Lever — ankle/ season

Xavier Lindsay — hamstring / season

Shane McAdam — Achilles / season

Andy Moniz-Wakefield — knee / season

Caleb Windsor — hamstring / season

Matthew Jefferson is racing against time to participate in the finals campaign.

“Jeffo landed awkwardly in a marking contest,” Griffith said.

“While initially he tried to continue to play on, unfortunately the pain and function decreased.

“He's had a scan which is unfortunately showing that he's injured his big toe. At this stage, we'll have to determine his return based on how far through the VFL team goes in finals.”

Sadly Marty Hore is hanging up his boots. He won’t be going on next season. 😢

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
