I was referring to the fact that Max wants that eighth AA and that’s what’s driving him currently.

What reason would the club possibly have to delay announcing that he has re-signed?

We leak like a broken sieve, if he had signed I can't imagine we'd be able to keep it away from the media for more than a few minutes.

Tom Morris is hiding in Judd's bushes probably

Idk why the Club or Judd or his manager would be holding off the announcement. He has said he’d like to tell me but he can’t and I fully understand and respect that (of course). I’ve said this all along. What I do know for sure is that he’s not leaving the MFC.

PS I love the thought of Morris hiding in Judd’s bushes for so long and the nights are getting colder.

I honestly feel like as much as Max is a superstar and a great asset to the club, we’re going to eventually find ourselves in a world of pain because we simply don’t have a solid back up for him if he is to get injured or even when he decides to retire. And that may not be too far in the future. We’ve done a bit of a disservice to both Max and the rest of the team (not to mention supporters, etc).

Too right.

The problem is it’s extremely difficult to blood young ruckman in the currently system without severely compromising Match day performance as well as overall list integrity. Obviously No one wants to sit an inexperienced player on the bench who will only give the preferred Ruckman a few minutes chop out each match. The alternative is to play two rucks but one needs to predominately be a Forward first ie. Gawn/Van Rooyen. No only is a good one very hard to find, this option doesn’t work long term ie. Van Rooyen will never be a No1 Ruck and meanwhile Gawn is being overtaxed.

The fix is easy though (Imo) yet it will never happen.

Bring in a dedicated/seperate interchange bench for Rucks ie . Gawn and Verrall, therefore Verrall gets match time (when match or scoreboard position allows) and if Gawn goes down we have a Ruckman ready to step in.

Something akin to a Bull pen for Baseball pitchers.

Given Judd has told Ghosty several times he is staying, I choose to believe that.

He doesn’t seem the sort of bloke to lie personally, several times, to a very strong loyal supporter, when he could simply say he wasn’t sure at that point, or just avoid the question.

I am therefore hopeful he will sign with us soon.

A few years ago, we were undergoing a restructure at work. My job was safe, if I wanted it. I assured the partner that I was staying, “I promise, I’m not going anywhere. This place is my second home”. Next day, I received an opportunity that was hard to turn down, so I didn’t. And promptly resigned.

I like it and it might save the dying art of ruckmen. Of course someone will abuse it and just use it as another interchange bench ( a five foot ruckman anyone).

Everyone knows Max should have been managed post bye

He’s actually a very humble person. He clearly has reasons for stalling, the club may also be behind the delay of the announcement, but it’s unfair for you or anyone else to question his character based on what journalists are surmising.

I'm not for one minute going on journo's views just my own! I cannot see any reason other than waiting to see who the coach is, however, even that reasoning is a cop out. You need to either sign or say that you are seeking other possibilities, so why the wait??

Not sure how far back but I suggested he was waiting ( now ) on the end if the season as it is imo the only logical reason. For why ? 🤷‍♂️ could be who's coaching, but that wasn't an if when he first baulked unless his crystal ball is better than most. Because he's fielding offers ?. Again seems a reasonable supposition that a WA boy ( building games) might attract attention/interest. I can only think his manager has spoken to him suggesting he just wait.

Perhaps senses the imminent change about to befall the club and wants to see how that looks.

If me this would be... well... me. I'd hit pause, for no other reason than to see what does happen. Not only is he entitled to do so he owes it to himself.

I'm bloody curious to watch and take in what happens. He wouldn't be/couldn't be the only one.

A lot will pivot on this off season. He is both participant and spectator.

Good luck to us all.

Would it be wrong to play Kalani White at Casey for say 18 months while he learns the ruck craft. Lots of learnings at Casey.

So. Methinks conspiracy here , that other thread has GAWN. Disappeared. Obviously did not happen I was sure they were all smiling. I will await the media release.

Incorrect.

He doesn’t have to do anything other than what he is doing.

There will come a time when he has to state what he is doing, but it is not based on your impatience, or your lack of knowledge of what his concerns, if there are any, actually are.

Apparently he has had the contract for a good period of time, please elaborate but what possible concerns do you believe COULD be at play!

I haven’t the faintest idea, but my point is it is his career and he shouldn’t be criticised for working to his timetable and not ours ( the fans ).

There will be a time when he will have to give an answer, but it is not yet.

Of course like you I want him to stay, but I see no value in trying to guess the issues he is confronting and then criticising him over those guessed issues.

I still believe he will stay.

On another player we both care about and have supported from day one at the club, I am concerned with Jeffo and believe next year will be make or break for him and hopefully that is make. He has the talent and just needs to show it. He needs some more muscle and a bit more anger in his game I believe. A new more supportive/encouraging Coach, might be the making of him.

Unfortunately, it is true.

Max may’ve been keen to get Grundy before Grundy arrived. Max was never gonna “sacrifice his role.” Ever.

And TC… he was brought in to “give Max a chop out” not to be a standby should Max get injured, which is all he’s ever been.

It’s a difficult thing to discuss because god forbid anyone should say anything negative about Max… he’s untouchable.

Max gets what Max wants. Whether that’s right or wrong… it’s the truth.

The other part is (and I want to do a bit of research), if I were a player with a contract in front of me, I may also hold off signing because honestly, as much as it seems like a CEO, President, or Board instability may not impact players or their performance, I’d imagine it does. I get that lots of people believe Goodwin needed to go—but, he’s a piece in a larger system. If he felt like it was unstable or if he didn’t get what he needed from the administration, that would flow on to players—maybe not verbally, but behaviours etc. In terms of what I want to research, it’s more about what that impact lack of governance and stability could potentially have on player performance. I have no idea if I’ll find anything. I’m just a geek with things like that. I spent a long time last year checking stats to see how frequently over the last 5 years the team that scored first won the game—there was nothing to it, but I had a theory 😂

In terms of the players having too much input into things, that may also go back to what I said above. If as a coach you don’t have a solid system backing you, habits can develop that aren’t beneficial.

Not sure what any of this has to do with McVee?

With respect to Max though I don’t believe that he is stopping the development of a younger player – that has been done by strange list choices when adding another 34 year old player to the list.

It was a strange choice, as when Max has been injured in recent history, he is always replaced by a part timer or two – Petty, JVR, Fullerton…I can’t believe that TC would ever be given a run in the AFL team this year except under extreme circumstances.

After two years on the list at Casey, Verrall was finally ready to hold the main position in the VFL. He has shown this by dominating at VFL level whenever TC is not playing – several games of 30+ hitouts/ 20+ possessions/ 10+ clearances/ score involvements etc. I believe his confidence and output would have grown inmeasurably if left in the position for an extended period.

Instead he has been left to play 30–40 minutes of games as the coaches appear to think that TC is about to make his MFC debut.

This is not the way to develop future players who need experience and feedback in their position. This is one example, but there are examples in every position. Is it the FD? The head coach? The VFL coach?

It only makes sense if the FD knows that they are receiving a ready-made player at the end of the year. Hopefully they can work with Max.

I don't believe we have a young player ready to step up so there is no development issue but more likely a list issue.

It's going to be interesting to see how we handle White.

Do we see him as a potential ruck or a KP player???

Either way if he makes it he's still a few years off.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
