I'm not easily impressed when it comes to CEOs, and the VCCI experience doesn't impress me in the slightest, but I listened to the SEN interview and thought it was very good.

Gary Pert was pure cant (that's not a a typo). Guerra sounds like a genuine but tactful person who already has a decent understanding of the club.

Interesting how optimistic he was about the list. I don't see it. I think he could have afforded to be more circumspect; it's OK to lower expectations. Not because we should expect mediocrity, but because the list from my perspective has holes everywhere and without an ENORMOUS amount going right. it will be incredibly difficult to make finals in the near future.

for what it’s worth I think mark williams would be absolutely brilliant in the player welfare space and a real Asset for the club to keep in that capacity.

I listened to both interviews and I was pretty impressed with how Guerra spoke about the club. Pert was a massive spin Dr but I didn't get any sense of from Guerra. The only inconsistency was that on 3aw he said the new coach would come in by the prelim and on SEN he said Grand final week, but it's much of a muchness really

Do agree with the commentary around being impressed with Guerra interview.

I dont think there was any spin and he was clearly honest why the reason he felt the need for change and a new voice.

The list isnt in bad shape at all, but a whole new voice with some football department and list changes could see us back in finals contention next year.

Since hearing of his appointment back 6 months ago I have been critical of appointing someone who could not start till the season was over. I have wondered who the others were on the list? However on reflection ( it's always much easier to be clever after the evident) it may have been to our advantage. He has been able to observe without being involved on a day to day basis. I have wanted the AFL to appoint people from outside the old boys club so I wait to see how our adventure turns out. From zero knowledge it would appear the board decided some time ago that things needed a hard reset. Here we go, Coach gone, I expect more in the FD to follow and a top level player or 3 to be traded. Anyone on the player list who is now without a contract would seem to be an indangered species. An interesting few weeks awaits. Getting the Caulfield situation agreed would be a nice start.

And Kanga is a strong Pies fan and the Pies want Goschs oval, which will only be available if we give it up. We would only give it up if we have an alternate venue.

Do you think the Pies might have had a quiet chat with Kanga and told him to stop worrying about where he would walk his dog?

Anyway the announcement of Caulfield Racecourse as our new home, will help our recruiting of players imo, as well as getting our players excited about their new home.

We ran two desperate finals teams to a goal in the last 3 weeks, without several injured players.

We are not that far away.

The first 5 games killed us Mr. leg. With injuries our season was finished at that point. We are a bottom five team with multiple losses by large margins to teams in the bottom half of the ladder. Our list is better than bottom five but it is not a list that will play in a GF without some major changes. After the top half dozen we have no stars that will take us to a GF let alone win one. e.g. CHF and CHB. Lever is now injured for long periods and Turner is not a replacement. JVR is an Average player, he is not a top quality forward. We have some big holes to fill.

If I said to you we have the two Daicos bothers, would you say we are a finals side?

When you lose 7 of 8 games by under 12 points, including finals teams, you are not that far away.

A few list changes, development of youngsters like Langford, Lindsay, Kolt, Windsor, Kentfield, Jeffo, White, Sinemma, Adams, AMW, Mentha etc, a fully understood game plan and improved fitness will help us compete for finals again.

I think this thread between you and old dee accidentally touches on why we are miles off. He says we don't have enough quality after our top six. As you say we did still manage run a lot of teams very close this year. My thoughts are, it's our top 6 that are failing us as they just aren't able to drag us to the line in tight games. And they have failed in that regard pretty much every single time since Sep 25 2021.

Enough of those top 6 are in the peak age bracket so it is really problematic that we are in this position. We need to move on from these top end guys and I imagine it'll take some years to reset that before we can climb again.

With a new coach we probably start from square one in 2026 Mr. Leg which I think will be a positive. From your list we have some potential good players however I struggle that there is anyone on that list who will be very good, Lindsay and Windsor perhaps the others mostly quartz that we hope will turn into a diamond. I like the look of Kentfield but Jefferson will never be more than a VFL player. I have defended Sparrow and Chandler in the past but I have to admit they are probably in the 25 to 30 range on our list. We have some good players but we have a lot of nqr's.

I could see one or two of that group leaving.

We will make list changes as we do every year, we just have to hope that the changes improve us.

Id suggest we are Darren burgess away from playing finals.

Bad fitness = bad disposals, bad last qs, weakness at closing out close games... we are unfit.

And the board, specifically Green, said we'd know about the success or otherwise of the business case for Caulfield by mid 2025.

So I'd suggest Green and Guerra should be expected to have something for us in the next 3-4 months at the latest.

There has been no update on Caulfield for months, so we can only take them on their word that the business case would be known by now.

The fact we know nothing is concerning IMV.

We need to have it okayed before the start of 2026. Ideally now, so we can approach opposition players with a home base on the horizon.

In both radio interviews he mentioned that we still have a 15 year commitment to be at Casey. To me anyway, the way he said it suggested we wouldn't be there beyond that.

Well you would think , should we get this Caulfield thing all sorted our main focus for training would be the Racetrack. Doesn't mean we disenfranchise ourselves from Casey.. just mean the Seniors would seldom need it. Casey would... ( you'd presume ) . Still.. long time down the track... not thinking I'll care much...if at all 🙄

Had a listen to both interviews, very confident speaker has a great resume in very senior leadership roles. Spoke glowingly of Goody and his achievements as player and coach but underachieving and time to move on.

Looking to the next decade, getting our next coach in by Prelim Final W/E is the highest priority along with him taking over the reins in the next couple of weeks. Our move to Caulfield Racecourse announcement not far off, loved the debunking of the Caro rumours that Brad wants to retain the crown, Board decision but Brad and Steve in accord for hand over before the year end ( loved that). Also that there may be a different role for Mark Williams at the club. All in all spoke very openly and like he has slotted in seamlessly to our club, only time will tell but I like the cut of hid jib.

FIFTEEEN?! Good grief.

Interestingly, between the two interviews - the coach announcement was moved from prelim finals week to the granny week. Both interviews were published on the same day though.
