The Tobie Travaglia Thread

Not quick for a rebounding defender type, but if his footy IQ is high it can more than make up for slight gap in pace. Others of note who weren't quick are Smilie 3.088 and Langford 3.2. Then again, Cripps apparently 3.23, so shows burst speed not necessary depending on your role, and they're both big bodied ball extractors who could dominate regardless.

im on board SONS! (we see eye to eye too often)

would go past hore immediately and howes, amw pretty quickly too imo coupled with salems inconsistent availability and boweys lack of progression i think this is good business.

couple him up with langford for mine

Query about his kicking technique. Seems to kick the ball from a high drop, similar to Trac. A bit of Frostball about him also, without as many errors. As mentioned in another post, he is a very modern day footballer - run and carry. That said, I think I prefer Lindsay's all-round game. I like the comparison to Josh Kelly, even Judd McVee.

Has definitely caught my attention of late.

Decision making is fair but I think he makes the quick decision quite well.

I don't know what to make of his size though, would he sort of be like a new Hibberd?

He competes damn hard though and I actually reckon his 1 on 1 defending is his main strength. Then there's the dash and rebound, I can definitely see him going top 10.

Gut feel says JT will have this kid high on his list.

Take the best mid remaining at 5 and then Travaglia at 9. Would be a great draft to complement Windsor and Kolt

He's the style of player we seem to like, plus with Rivers moving into the midfield it may make sense.

28 & 3 from TT, certainly wouldn't be upset hearing his name called out on draft night

My initial thoughts when I saw his 20m sprint time was he plays fast don’t worry about the time.

But now when I watch him the feet are pumping but he doesn’t actually move all that quickly.

Still a nice player, but probably won’t be a line breaker at afl level.

Given the skills and decision making are a bit iffy too I’d be a little surprised if he’s our guy at 9.

On Gettable this week, Cal T. said that every team from pick 8 onwards were looking at taking him.

I don’t pretend to know about all the players you critique but is there anybody you like?

I like Lalor, FOS, Langford and Tauru for 5, unfortunately we might come up one pick short.

I don’t mind most of the rest of the top rated mids if available at 9, am intrigued by Armstrong and Shanahan and a few others.

Prime for us at 9. Fills a need and at worst is a running back type at best another damaging mid, would be like having a spare Rivers.

Want.

I met his old man at the races yesterday and they seem like a great family.  We discussed whether it was better to be drafted or win the Derby 😂😂

JFC can we quit it with the Lindsay stuff

Dude is nowhere near the level

Could definitely do with his rebound and run off the HB line.

Wings of Langers & Sharp with Toby and Duke on the back/forward flanks would really give us some running weaponry.

Definitely think TT is a strong option for the Dees at pick “9”.  I’m a big supporter of his style of footy.  Like his run and carry and energy. Reminds me of the Riv in his draft year.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
