I think the club needs more credit for the strong stance taken with Trac, Koz and Oliver. 

The Media were salivating at the prospects of us letting gun players walk and there was genuine rival interest. 

Richmond, Port, Westcoast, Bulldogs and Sydney all let good contracted players walk out of their clubs. All but Richmond allowed it to happen for almost no returns. We held firm and should be given some credit where it's due.

Things seemed to get less manic and messy after week 1 of the trade period which was a relief. Almost felt like people stopped feeding the media with leaks like what had been happening for months prior. Hopefully it has been weeded out.

Our stance with contracted players was great and one which I hope other 'smaller' clubs lean into. At the end of the day, the player and manager need to take responsibility for the contract they agree to. If a player wants out when under contract, it should only eventuate under circumstances where the club feels they are either equal or better off than they were with that player at the club, or they are satisfied that the assets they are acquiring position them to be equal or better in the near future. With Oliver, I thought it was pretty clear that with what was being offered our best option was to work with him at the MFC to try and get him back towards his best.

We need to be just as strong next year. Better outcome would be that those who might have wanted a move will take responsibility to lead the turnaround and drive this club forward, repaying the faith that has been put in them with these big contracts.

The optimist in me would like to think that Brad Green has come in and laid down the law, which would be fantastic, as I wasn't necessarily convinced that he's the right man for the job.

I have no idea if Brad will make a good chief. However I do think we will see a more hands on Chief who will probably make more comments than our previous Chief.

Hope it wasn't a player but who knows. Strange that Tom Morris could only speculate after that.  And none of our trade targets or draft pick swaps came out. But the leak seems to have been plugged.

Excellent post.  And I'm relying on Trac returing in mint condition and setting such an example to everyone to "..follow me.." that as you say bring on 2025.

I think Trac will step up this aspect. Lots of confidence in him seeing the Austrian pics.

It was fascinating that the Chair took on the media in an emphatic fashion last/this week, rather than the CEO.

I want to give credit but I also want to wait. 

I do like that they shut down the trade rumors and stood firm on it all this year.  Happy with that result, definitely would not have been in the club's best interest to let any of them go.

I thought Brad Green showed great leadership as interim President of the Melbourne Football Club.

He handled things as well as he could. Especially with all the media noise surrounding our players.

Hopefully, he learned from his own mistake of meeting former President Joe Gutnick and having it all leaked to the media. In hindsight probably a bad move. Brad Green has to be more prudent from now on.

The next few months will be a massive test for Brad Green's leadership too.

There's a lot going on!

We have the 2 different external reviews of the Board and the Football Department which need to be completed. The outcomes will be interesting too.

The new Strategic Plan that we as Melbourne members and supporters are still waiting on.

The uncertain future of CEO Gary Pert.

The upcoming Melbourne members Forum. If there is one?

The Melbourne Demons Annual General Meeting. This includes elections. With Geoff Freeman the former Demons Vice President wanting to join the Board as well as Peter Lawrence (who has tried but failed for a few times now).

There's also the members survey submitted by Deemocracy and the public letter from "The Age" newspaper about members unsatisfaction due to lack of transparency on behalf of the Club and other matters. This needs to be responded to.

There's also the issue of the Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse and making sure that progresses and gets completed.

On top of that you have various legal proceedings that cannot be discussed here.

So there's a lot on Brad Green's plate as President and I hope he seeks help from Board members, influential supporters and those who can give him wise advice.

you've been talking smack about a club for three months including numerous predictions of players leaving at any cost during the trade period.

THEN

you'd better be ready to throw it all in the memory hole real fast at the end of trade period.
