What would the difference be for your best 23? Pickett for Lindsay?

Personally I think Sharp will be slotted in to ANBs flank.

Pickett for Tholstrup. Tholstrup as the sub. Sharp dropped.

Can’t see Max, Clarry or Jack in your first team.

Depth has really been increased. Poor old Max will be hoping for an injury to big Campbell

I like the look of the squads, well done, and will only add that the team could be even better if a few Casey boys really step up , earn a spot with a hot run of form. No one in particular in mind. Maybe hot form from Jefferson or Seston ? Let’s see.

Always forget the followers for some reason, probably because it's the most settled line in the team.

I guess I got it wrong George isn't a Cat B rookie. He's just a train on in case someone gets injured.

so here's my round 1 team

SUS: Pickett

these are the collection of players that it's hardest to get a read on at this stage of the season

even allowing for trac mostly rolling up into the midfield, there's not enough pressure on the oppo coming out of d50 without pickett there

it'll be interesting to see what structure they go with here

What are you seeing from Johnson that makes you think he deserves the starting CHF spot?

What I’ve seen is a workhorse who is willing to play a role for the team which may at times be unrewarded.

What I mean by this is he’s going to take a big defender and use his work ethic and power to create space JVR and Fritta.

A willing tackler who can pinch hit in the ruck.

Think Micocek at Collingwood and that’s the prototype.

If he could deliver what Mihocek has for Collingwood over last 5 years would be an outstanding result!!

I love that your side recognises we will make change this season rather than rolling out the same players in same possies. I’m interested whether your bench is just next best or what roles you see Woewodin, Turner, Melksham playing.
Noting I have not been to training but I suspect Sharp and Kynans speed and endurance combos will see them well in contention for bench and sub spots.

That’s exactly what we need

C: Billings, Langford, Langdon

HF: Rivers, Turner, Chandler

F: Fritsch, van Rooyen, Petracca

FOLL: Gawn, Oliver, Viney

IC: Bowey, Sparrow, Sharp, Johnson

S: Melksham/Kolt/McAdam/Brown

Have a feeling Lindsay will need to build some form and fitness in the 2s as he will be contesting for some spots we have good depth in now at wing and HB.

Sharp to come in as the running HF connector. Windsor and Bowey to rotate with Billings across HB and Wing. Langford and Trac to rotate as our power forward/midfielders. Rivers to rotate with Oliver/Vines as follower.

I agree it is and the sample size is short but what gives me hope is that once you have a body/build like AJ does that the role requires work ethic, strength and desire. They aren’t teachable unfortunately as we have learnt with many key forwards before (loathe to name weid, wattsy and Lucas cook).

Assume this is round 1 rather than best 22 with Kozzy missing?

Have you heard how serious the club is regarding Roy George?

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
