Howes and Adams are not guaranteed to make senior level, Jefferson and Kentfield as well. Fullarton, Hore, and Verrell delisted.

We have room on our list for a mature tall. He will cost very little. He is stuck behind a very strong suite of key defenders in Buckley, Taylor and Idun. Can play forward or back. Mature body, big unit, 197cm. Known quantity, had a very good year in the VFL. Very unlikely we draft a player using a 4th rounder that can match him physically.

Absolutely worth a punt. Could be another Sharp, but he is some physical traits that mean who could be more.

Himmelberg also plays back for GWS. They are stacked for key defenders.

26 pages on Wade Derksen. Rarely have so many words been written regarding someone of such little consequence.

Just shows how desperate we are for some recruiting news.

I still dont understand why they didnt trade him on last year. Perhaps its more of a cap space thing, he would be on minimum chips

My question them is what is the price ?

Someone who has played little senior football fit the last 3 (?) years. Are we just swapping a titanic deck chair or has this man some upside .

If it is only a really late pick and we are swapping someone with little upside for one that might have some small ability. Then it should be ok. But if they want anything other than pick 85, tell them they are dreaming.

No skin off our nose, we might even win this trade.

They lost far too many role players last year in Peatling, Cumming and Perryman. Perhaps that's why they dug their heels in.

I long for the day when the Dees are "that" club that can find a diamond amongst the rough (eg - Lawson Humphries or Shaun Mannagh) but I can't see it happening with Derksen.

Nice post.

But it def wont be a 2nd rounder -- talk as recent as 2wks ago was that it could even be a del FA case. Given GWS know were keen that now seems unlikely but I'd say at most it'll be a pick swap of later picks to assist with points for Kalani bid, whereby we trade say pick 45 for picks 52, 60, 65 or some such.

I absolutely LOVE the Derksen acquisition, think he has HUGE upside and is just not conducive to being in same side as Buckley/Taylor/Idun -- Leek a inferior player but offers speed and can play smalls hence why he was preferred, its a mix/composition issue not something that had anything to do with Derksen not being good enough. You just can't have too many of the same player.

Derksen is a reader of the play, has super strong hands, good disposal, spoils at height and has smarts!

Points only go out to pick 54 in the revised system, we're not doing that deal.

Judd Mcvee (rookie pick) Luker Kentfield may have something to say about that too next year (rookie pick)

Agree. I guess we won’t hear anything until post the GF and when trade week starts. I think GWS will push for a 3rd or 4th round pick. They played hardball last year and then didn’t play him at all in 2025. Had good form until he was injured later in the year. He was behind too many good talk defenders at the Giants. He’s a good intercept mark and competes hard. Will be a good addition if he can get him imv.

Wade Derksen hasn't shut the door in staying with the Giants beyond this year according to Jason McCartney.

Well he hasn’t formally requested a trade yet so no team will say that there player is certainly leaving

Maybe King has said no to the idea of bringing Derksen on board and so suddenly he’s open to staying. Just a thought.

Maybe they’re all half-cut at pre GF events and sprouting the first bit of nonsense that comes into their heads.

S.O.P.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
