The biggest threat to MFC Culture is coming from outside the club. It is nurtured by supporters who willingly buy in to the Media narrative. Tom Morris went as far as to call for our President's resignation on the back of his premise that she had not spoken to Christian since the injury. We know now, from Christian's own recollection on July 1st, that this premise was not the case. Do you expect Morris to acknowledge that he jumped to a conclusion?

If Tom Morris said the sun was shining, I would reach for my umbrella.

Here are some facts.

Spleen trauma is graded from 1 to 5 in increasing order of severity.

Petracca had a grade 5 spleen injury.

Grade 1 is less than 10% of surface area involved in hematoma or capsule laceration less than 1 cm.

Grade 2 is hematoma 10 to 50% of surface or capsule laceration 1 to 3 cm in depth.

Grade 3 is hematoma of more than 50% of the subcapsular surface area or if the hematoma is known to be expanding over time, if the hematoma has ruptured, intraparenchymal hematoma either more than 5 cm or known to be expanding, or capsule laceration more than 3 cm in depth and/or involving a trabecular blood vessel.

Grade 4 is a laceration involving a hilar or segmental blood vessel if there is partial devascularization or if it is more than 25% of the spleen.

Grade 5 is either a shattered spleen or complete devascularization of the entire spleen.

give it a rest dt

we know he had trauma and mental shock

he's not the first sportsman to have a serious injury and surgery

that's hardly a good reason to try and break a  long term lucrative contract and throw your own club under a bus

all this without the courage to issue a statement or interview and just watch the daily carnage as the untruths and misinformation fly in all directions. he's torching himself and all his team-mates for what? something called a brand

I believe she said she hadn't spoken to Christian on his threat to seek a clearance/transfer/release to another club.

No, because everything he's said has turned out correct.

Stop trying to turn this back on a media issue. Deflection and being delusional go hand in hand with you in this instance.

Not that it is happening but if it was a top 10 pick, Mitch Lewis and F1st, that could spark interest.

Bundle up the F1st with what you get for ANB and you could possibly get another top 10 from the Tigers, who would look to spread their multiple picks this year, into some next year.

That could mean we would get Mitch Lewis have 3 top 10 picks for this draft, with one of course being our existing pick 5.

That is a very strong influx of talent.

Can you organise the paperwork Red...

Good old dazzle... I always know you will show up when faced with a narrative that doesn't support the barrow you're pushing! There are quite a few things that Morris has said that haven't been correct. Do your homework instead of desperately trying to prop up a position you have taken to appear knowledgeable. Would you like me to compile a list of all the things that Morris has put into print over the journey that were shown to be shoddy?

Just a reminder that a 'future first' can turn out to be a pick in the early 20s.

Yes I know, but that would only be if Hawks were Premiers and you would only take it if you could bundle it with ANB pick and get a top 10 this year.

I actually think that’s part of the phenomenon.

So many current fan bases grew up with the notion of Melbourne being ‘irrelevant’ or a basket case, that when we put it altogether and became a consistent contender, we moved out of our ‘station’. Any goodwill dissipated quickly and we were viewed to have gotten too big for our boots and the resentment came quickly.

Add in that we’re getting wall to wall negative coverage (disproportionate some might say) drowning out their clubs coverage and we’re likely to experience Essendon levels of derision (when they hijacked the news cycle).

What a time to be alive.

This resentment and hatred works wonders for Collingwood though, so we need to harness it.

Ensure our football club is the best it can be, and use the us versus them mentality to drive ourselves back up the ladder, and we know because we've done it with this playing group before, that we can do it.

The cliche nothing is as bad as it seems is apt.

Even Gerard Whateley, with all his gravitas, failed to hear what Kate Roffey was actually saying! Post interview he immediately sprang to the conclusion that she was claiming that the whole issue was a media beat up. That served the narrative that he was looking for... Unfortunately, a very superficial analysis of her response to his Producer prepared questions.

Nothing has been proven as correct yet. It won't be till a trade is formally requested.

Would you take pick 11, 31 and future 1st for Petracca?

Cameron was 13,15,20 but there was 2 second rounders coming back so it's around the same value.

I reckon that's the best we can conceivably get.

Alternatively, we can hold him to his contract and watch him run around half rat pace for a year.  If the guy doesn't want to play, he doesn't want to play.  Good luck with that.

I reckon trading Trac fast trac's (sorry) a rebuild, if we run it back next year with the same group we're probably in the 6th - 12th no mans land area, plus the added media pressure and [censored] show of Trac speculation

You're also taking a punt his value holds in 12 months time if he has a down year given the injury, should he want out then

I know it's a very Americanised take to blow it all up, but if you can sell high (ish) on Trac, and also get multiple first round picks for Pickett (who's return home seems an inevitability at some stage of his career), I'd do it

Absolutely. There's been a lot of talk about how we're not directly hearing from Trac himself, but make no mistake, we're definitely getting signals from his camp, albeit indirectly, through various media channels. While it’s true that some of the reports might be spiced up with a bit of embellishment or exaggerated language designed to increase the clicks, the underlying message seems pretty clear. The consistent narrative emerging suggests that he would like to be elsewhere come 2025.

My Mum had a much more severe injury than Petracca's, with a lot more time in ICU and greater long-term consequences but she still knows how to pick up the [censored] phone and have a chat about what she's getting up to lately.

I'm irritated.

I'm also chronically, almost terminally, patient, and I accept that in a sense this is Petracca's first real collision with adult fear after a life of being the magic prince, so it can be genuinely shocking.

Meanwhile, Brand Petracca took a big hit - youtuber Tina Yong tried 'viral Tik Tok rice cooker recipes' and was not impressed by CP5's 'toss some frozen dumpings, soy sauce and spring onion in on top of your rice'. Trac's recipe did NOT get a double thumbs up. Coincidentally it was the first of his recipes I tried myself and, to be sure, it was as bland as Damian Barrett.

What would be best offer we'd get for kossie?  from Port? Or Crows?  He'd be scary good in that Port team.

They could make this saga into a tv series like Utopia or Succession, because that's how it feels. You've got the Newspaper/Media room, the MFC room and the Petracca PR room with various characters devising various pr strategies, leaking stories, reacting to headlines/news, getting on the phone and shouting, secret meetings in wine bars, with journo's, posing for instagram stories, all with the intention of shifting narratives etc.

Wonder what Trac thinks of the Bont sticking fat with the Dogs - they have parallel stories in so many ways but I wonder if Trac admires his courage to stay or thinks he’s just not reaching/cashing in on his potential

Yeah the dogs went thru similar issues after winning the flag in 2016 though Bont hadn’t suffered the injury that Trac has .. just puzzled angry frustrated when you see Gawn Viney extended and wanting to be part of the solution as this is ripping the club apart..

So in the pages and pages of this thread it seems like the truth is somewhere along the lines of:

- Petracca in unhappy and apparently wants to leave the club, but has not formally requested a trade.

- his management from Connors have told him it's not possible

- his other management, the "brand" arm are pushing the issue anyway.

- it's very unlikely Connors are leaking to the media because that would ruin their relationship with the club, so more likely someone else from his camp are leaking.

- someone from the club is leaking because they are frustrated, which is understandable but making it worse.

- Petracca is remaining silent because he is waiting to see whether a trade can be done.

- the board at Melbourne have a communications issue.

Apparently his management reached out to Freo

They have 3 first round picks this year, and a future picks to trade

But if they're committed to Bolton and Baker, it might be impossible

Kossie is scary good in our team. We beat PA by 7 points earlier this year and they beat us by 2 in the return match. I don't see them as being far superior to us.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
