So, so proud of these boys! Whether they make the final 22 or not, they were named and thereby acknowledged for the hard work they’ve put in.

YEAH, THE KIDS 🥳

No one should be surprised that this is coming…

PLEASE VOTE NOW!!!

I’m gonna nag and nag and wear y’all down.

Imagine how proud our boys would be to make this team! They deserve to make the final 22.

Rooey didn’t make the squad last year. Let’s make it happen this year!!! And Leb only debuted this year and he qualifies… amazing! How about Knuckles? Doesn’t need justifying, amirite?!?!

It’s also fun since you get to name the whole side. (Breathe, @WERRIDEE) including captain and vice-captain.

GET VOTING!!!!!

please.

Done. Gio Dees

Voted WCW.😁

That was fun. Jeez I left some good players on the table.  I guess Jye Amiss will learn to live with me giving him the lemonade and sars in favour of JVR 😁

I named Harry Sheezel as my captain. Love that kid.

A wise move, mono. A very wise move. 😉

Same.  You hear him speak on SEN every 2 weeks and he's such an impressive kid.

I put Nick Daicos on the bench.

Gotta admit, It felt good!

😊

Surprisingly done it. As you all know I'm not really into putting best 22's up. Fitted in all 3 demons and that's all that matters. Daicos captain Gulden vice.

If you’ve already voted, thank you very much! 🙏

If you haven’t, why not??? 🤨

Look at it this way… you’re on DL right now. You can either discuss Kate Roffey’s leadership or judge excuses for not attending the footy, amongst other things, or you can vote for our three incredible young players to make the 22 Under 22 team. What’s it gonna be?

In a season ending so badly, anything positive is very welcome.

These kids have worked hard to get to the level required for nomination, let’s reward them by voting for them using this link…

https://vote.22under22.com.au/

Voting closes at 11:59pm August 14th (tomorrow) so please get moving on it!

It’s also fun coz you get to select the entire team, which should suit the 95% on here who rate themselves as better selectors than ours 😉

There’s still time to vote for our three young guns in the 22 Under 22 team.

Voting closes at 11:59 tonight. Plenty of time for those of you who are still up.

Come on y’all… Roo, Leb and Knuckles deserve our support! They’ve been the beacon in the gloom that is season 2024.

Voting is so quick and easy. If you cbf picking a serious team just choose our three boys then randomly select the other team members (be warned: if you pick Naicos you’re dead to me). There’s simply NO REASON TO NOT VOTE!

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD AND HOLY… VOTE NOW!

Please, and thanks in advance 🫶🏼

Unfortunately it is a bit of a popularity contest. Realistically I think McVee should be in the side over Wilmot, but can't see who JVR or Windsor would replace.

Well, we should have had at least two in that team with Mac and LJ.

Rachele is a joke surely?? McKercher is purely speculation on draft order and potential ability.

So Windsor a potential rising star smokey can't get in the 22 squad?

Well who are you to replacing from the midfield options? Gulden, Reid, Horne-Francis, Sheezel, Daicos and Wardlaw all have him covered at this stage. They break the players into different sections, so he can’t replace any of the forwards or defenders.

It's hard to disagree I guess but (totally unbiased of course) I'd have Judd McVee on the HBF instead of McKercher every day of the week. Further, I certainly have queries over the likes of Draper (Freo) and Rachele. Darcy Jones (GWS) a bit unlucky I feel.  The Bombers Caddy would also be in the mix but I guess the last two were a bit late to the party in terms of performances.

McVee stiff for McKercher who I last saw running around in the 2’s.

Otherwise, meh.

Obviously not important but there’s no [censored] way McKercher, Wilmot or Rachele are better players than McVee.

It’s amazing to remember how young Gulden is though.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
