Pretty is still overcoming a chronic injury.

Apart from that ........................  allis good !!

A currently suspended player/son-of-a-gun, who in spite of everything was our best forward in the 23 finals (though forward line was decimated in any case, even Fritsch wasn't right after his injury).

Spargo - who has his detractors here, but would have at least given us some options and is still our best I50 kick.

Ben Brown - no reason why he couldn't have given us 40+ goals a year and been a foil for JVR if his body had held up. He's only 31, same age as (e.g.) Jeremy Cameron. And you look at players like Taylor Walker (34) or even Tom Hawkins (36), there should have been plenty more good footy there.

Salem: was a key to our 21 premiership, his experience, leadership and disposal smarts are sorely missed down back. And having hm playing (decently) would have freed up Judd for more midfield time.

Plus:

Viney not right/carrying a shoulder.

Bowey hasn't been right since his shoulder and missing so much footy.

The team/list is completely shot, regardless of what the injury list says.

If Goodwin had a 1-3 GF record having had Buddy Franklin for those 3 losses, and was coaching a side with Heeney, Warner and Gulden in it which trailed 71-0 in the second quarter, this thread would still exist. 

The double standards on Demonland are profound. 

Watch any of the spineless drivel Sydney served up in that first 1.5 quarters and ask yourself whether that was any better than anything you’ve seen from us this year. 

And then remind yourself that their opponent is a side whose crowd booed their coach off the field a month ago.

Never said SACK the coach, we are a one paced midfield with a lack of skills and a past by date of a game plan, Goodwin has to reinvent how we play, any person with football knowledge should be able to see that but then again it's  demonland.

Actually, no I wasn't.

As for Tomlinson: he got a chance and took it. What's wrong with that? Then injury cruelled him. He always tries.

 

JJ’s just a role player but he’s exactly what we are missing now, and we took him out of the side for 1 year of Hunter being no better. Short term - no gain, for long term negative.

Tomlinson took it for a while but Petty was always coming to take that job. He was the same player after the injury, he just had a run of games that he was never going to live up to. He pretends to try. Runs hard, but protects himself in contests, rarely leaves his man to cover, doesn’t crash packs, doesn’t break tackles or even hold up under pressure with his ball use.

Oi Weh, the MFC is mired in duck muck, is all I can say, they are all nincompoopers, and it's got nothing to do wid the luck of the AFL Charlatans, the Draw, or injuries, just plain incompetence. I mean, even noncompoopers win flags, don't they? Like Sheedy and Jeans and even Joyce, and what about Malcolm the Blight...

Just checking, have Bevo, Mitchell, Longmuir and Hinkley been sacked yet? All were hopeless at stages this year.

Longmire will obviously be sacked tonight and Voss must be on shaky ground, as is McCrae.

Have you watched us this year? We’ve re-invented the game plan, so much more run and risk taking from the backline, especially the young players who aren’t set in their ways. We’ve added speed and skill to the midfield from very limited choices (Rivers, ANB, Kossie).

It's obviously uncontroversial that we didn't know we were going to lose Brayshaw. But the rest is precisely what good list management is supposed to cover for. During our "up" period over the last four years, we have IMO relied too heavily (both in our list management and on game day) on Gawn, Oliver, Petracca and Viney being fit and able to carry us through seasons. The list needed more attention to the midfield over the last few years, not just last year, to ensure that with the inevitable injuries (long term or short) and fluctuations in form/fitness, we wouldn't be caught out like we have been this year.

Of course, list management isn't the only reason for our current predicament. Injuries have played their role. But I feel the problem with the position you take on here is that you put injuries as the far and away biggest determinant/factor, almost to the point of disregarding other factors. Obviously no Trac/Gus and Oliver/Viney/Gawn injured/unfit makes us worse, but Collingwood are closer to finals than we are and have had a much worse spate of injuries this year than we have.

We have plenty of time to get over Gus, other sides have lost important players over this year.

We tried to re invent but through a lack of skill and a slow midfield we were not able to implement it, we went back to 21 football done this since 21.
