Incorrect, it was pick 13 plus Freo’s first and second round picks the following year.

We got pick 6 from Freo as well in the end and picked up Windsor. A big win given Jackson was out of contract and adamant to go home.

The AFL is still finds ways of screwing us.

It laughable that those top draft pick contracts are only 2 year.

Should be 3+1 (team option). That way teams would have more leverage if these players want to go home early (JHF 👀).

You think Collingwood and GWS supporters were asking the exact same thing when they got rid of Buckly and Leon Cameron?

You're making out as if there isn't anyone out there that would actually come in and potentially just give the list a rejuvenation with a whole new game plan that would suit the strengths of our playing list and new coaching structure in place.

How do you know there's not another Adam Kingsley, Sam Mitchell or Craig McRea out there?

I'm in the camp that Goodwin won't be getting sacked, but it's silly to think there aren't options out there that could potentially make use of the list we currently have.

Ok so who do you think could come in and give us that whole new game plan and rejuvenate our list? Simpson? Should we take a risk on an untried assistant?

By the way, what game plan do you think suits our strengths? Because our strengths up until this season have been contest and defense, and that game plan got us a flag and two top 4 finishes, where we all agree we got very unlucky last year to not go further.

By the way, why is McRae not under fire? Pies won a flag and won’t even make finals the following year. How’s Fagan going? So many top 4 finishes and zero flags.

It is always easier to think the grass is greener elsewhere. Sometimes it is, but a lot of the time it’s just a knee jerk reaction to a disappointing result. As long as Goodwin has the ear of the players and their support, and I have not seen anyone prove otherwise, everything else can be fixed.
Strategy, game plan, fitness, list management etc is easier to change than finding a new coach and hoping he will have the same support that Goody currently has from our players. I will bet my bottom dollar that a large chunk of our list would be very very unhappy if Goody left. I don’t think any of them believe he is the reason that we are where we are.

Longmire 1 x flag 3 x GF losses host of finals a lot more though 13 seasons vs 8, need to look deeper at their recruiting the Swans getting older players is excellent and highlights their quality recruiters/ list mgrs … not sure what Taylor & Lamb strategy has been since 21 as our u23s are great but scratch your head at the older players traded in and what we let go… Is this Goodwin doing???

I’m barely managing to stomach your posts when there’s only one of each. Please stop double- and even triple-posting.

TIA

Good lord. On page six of this thread you’ve posted the same post four times! You’re flattering the length of this thread but that’s unnecessary for there’s no shortage of Goody-bashers with a lot to say.

Once again, he may have the players ears and be a great mate to them however even blind Freddy could see that he hasn't inspired them in the past month when we needed to lift and his strategic ability is lacking.

So is a coach, who you claim to be the best people manager in the league, someone who is mates with the players or someone who inspires and is strategically dynamic?

One thing I am dumbfounded is all the talk, specially form senior players, after our losses and always saying how they want to play for the Guernsey and the coach.

There have been multiple games this season where a lot of them looked disinterested and not motivated enough.

You can lose against better teams but how do we explain the lack of effort against Freo twice, WC, Now Bulldogs, Brisbane (at the G)?

Remember the great Neale Daniher... When it's all said and done...

Brilliantly said. And you’re spot on about Goody having the support of the players. He HAS NOT LOST A SINGLE ONE OF THEM.  He has their love and support and they don’t think he’s the reason we are where we are.

Before the usual morons jump in… I know this because I talk to the very people involved. I talk way more than I’d ever let on here because I won’t betray confidences.

Doesn’t mean a thing if the Gameplan isn’t working

This is not personal, i am sure there is genuine love between Goody and his players

But the results don’t lie, Goody continues to say “we will learn and get better”…

Something continues to not be working….

I confirmed that the players adore Goody and that’s all I said. I didn’t address anything other than this.

Yeah Ive heard this but different versions ranging from Max telling Goodwin to let Jackson stay out there as he was already going well, Gawn talking Goodwin into allowing Jackson to start and your version.

So because the Captain suggested something to the coach which then went well the coach is actually no good, the players alone won us the flag. Ok got it.🤦‍♂️

Yep, this is very evident. I think Goody sacked in a knee-jerk fashion would spell more trouble than people would think. I think players would follow Goody out the door too and it'd be worse than what the situation is right now.

That's just your opinion. Speculation presented as fact.

Everyone wanted Goody sacked in 2020. Including he who shall not be named.
We got some better assistants in place and Burgess and we won the flag in 2021 and have been, until this year, the most successful and best performed team of the last 3 years.

And just a reminder, that we haven’t had back to back flags since the Tigers, who were absolutely enabled by the Covid era and a shortened season in 2020. And prior to that you have to go back to Geelong/Hawks era.
Dynasties are incredibly rare in the modern era with the length of the season and the compromised draft.

The sheer number of uninformed, arrogant, and clueless testimonies on 'Land is like watching a parade of people confidently explaining how to use a chocolate teapot. It's impressive how certain they are while being so spectacularly wrong! It's like they took a crash course in "How to Be Wrong with Conviction" and graduated top of their class. Sometimes, I wonder if they're all part of a secret society dedicated to spreading misinformation with unwavering confidence. At this rate, they'll be explaining how to build sandcastles out of quicksand next!

Hunter was a good pickup, filled a hole in giving us a genuine wing opposite Langdon. Cruelled by injury this year, but for 2023 average 22+ disposals, a couple of clearances and a handful of I50's per game was more than decent. Same for Tomlinson, was very good until the knee injury.

Hunter taking up a spot in the team alienated JJ, took Gus away from his wing role, lowered our team speed, lowered our overall hardness level. The league was only getting faster and we decided to get a guy who sat way outside and chipped it 30m.

And that’s without even the impact he might’ve had on our off field culture.

Tomlinson played a bunch of decent games when we had the best team defence you’ll ever see and dominated field position. In a role that he was never recruited to play because he failed miserably as a winger. It was a panic move after 2019 to try to find a second winger. 5 years when he was dropped from the giants first finals team because he was too slow even then.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
