Do you actually think the umpires made an iota difference to the result?

Yep.

I appreciate and look forward to Joeboy’s analysis each week but the “woe against me” towards the umpiring that has permeated Demonland this year has been unbearable to be honest.

May – under constant pressure

Lever – all at sea

Bowey – struggled all night

McVee – composed but besieged

McDonald – still worth spot

Howes – not AFL standard

Woewodin – not AFL standard

Viney – years taking toll

Langdon – tried heart out

Moniz-Wakefield – not AFL standard

Rivers – showed fighting spirit

Neale-Bullen – energetic but limited

Sparrow – solid but slow

Kolstrup – judge next season

Chandler – better option needed

Pickett – too little effort

Van Rooyen – had few opportunities

Petty – wasted in forwards

Fritsch – accurate but lazy

Melksham – last hurrah time

Gawn – couldn’t stem tide

Oliver – off the boil

Turner (sub) – couldn’t help much

T Mac

Crucified by umps.

Busted a gut.

Showed great restraint.

Deserves another year.

joeboy - lost his tether

Bowey    - improved second half

Trent Rivers  - beacon in the gloom

Tom Sparrow -

Max Gawn    - captain’s knock (again)

Ed Langdon-  season standard game

Fritsch  - some spirited cameos

AFL/media      - poisoned golden chalice

Umpires.   - can’t do Jack

Bevo -  australian rules throwball

The rest - prayer helps apparently

Knee jerk reactionJoe, seems to lose the plot when we lose badly.Just 3 players passed his high standards.

His high standards. A poor team performance, started and finished at the contest again.

Ok so you’re at it again taking pot shots at me.

Let’s see your 3 word responses and show how many positives YOU can come up with.

On reflection, and upon watching a replay the only ‘knee jerk reaction’ ( your words ) I regret were for Langdon who was ‘actually steady throughout’

Fairly accurate assessment.

I would say that Bowey played one of his better games for the year.

Langdon was a bright light as well.

Viney didn't look very enthusiastic and your right Kozzie look like he had checked out just like his two games prior. Not good at all.

Anb struggled as did a few others.

Chandler is way overated.

Petty as a fwd averages one goal in just over three games.

In what other team would he stay in that role week after week with that low scoring?

Dogs are flying

Many playing injured

Viney, Oliver slow

Torched in clearance

Several not ready

Sparrow not humbled

TMac rightfully furious

Didn't stop trying

Prepare for 25

Maybe you should watch the replay before your comments then.Often presents quite a different picture from the actual game live. Things the camera don't  miss. QED

Um his 3 word comments are visceral and instinctive.

Watching the replay may sometimes give a more accurate response but as most of accept this is not the point of the thread.

In any event Joeboy does quite a good job.

It's not an easy thread to complete.

What is the point of this thread so @joeboy can vent his spleen (topical) after a loss. The number of replies to this thread now, ever diminishing know what they are going to read so don't even look at it.

Three words - Poor Team Performance.

Joe, I wouldn't try to upstage the oracle. QED to me is not the Latin  "Quod erat Demonstrated"  but, QUITE ENOUGH DONE. Enjoy the rest of the week end.

,

This is the first thread that i read after a game.Often brutal but generally both fair and accurate .Remarkable effort to post    a 3 word summary on every player so soon after games  final whistle .

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
