I do though agree that we need or it is prudent  to take a good key position player along with an elite midfielder in the upcoming National draft. 

I would prefer Tauru but feel that North with pick 2 might grab him so either Armstrong or Shanahan at 9 whoever is available might be the best choice.  
Remember we do have some flexibility as Petty Turner Rooy Adams and Tmac have all played forward or back during some part of their development or career.

Let’s see who the expert JT goes for as that’s the only poll that counts on the night.

Speaking of mid-season picks, I like a lot in Turner's game. He's about to turn 23, so I think we can expect him to take another step this year. His kicking for goal is lovely, but he looks a natural intercept defender to me.

It's looking like the cards might fall that way. If we rate Tauru high enough & North don't "reach" at 2, he won't last until 9. 

Think it really depends on what North do, I can't see us passing on Langford, and if Draper's gone before Adelaide's pick then they'll pick a one of Smith or Langford you'd assume.

Given the Saints delisted Membry and Hayes I would not be surprised if they take Armstrong with pick 8.

They’re also strong on GWS trading up for 8. I wonder who GWS are trading up for if it’s true.

Armstrong - Hoges is 30 in February, quality key forwards are so hard to find.

Allan - he’d be a jumbo Peatling replacement. They need midfield depth 

Travaglia - suits their game plan 

They’d be the 3 I’d expect GWS are keenest on.

Agree regarding GWS. There is quality at the Saints pick 8 and GWS with a reasonably strong list need a quality player rather than quality.

I feel like the majority of mock drafts I look at generally land on us taking Langford at pick 5, with pick 9 being completely up in the air. 

Langford at 5 would most likely rule out Allan at 9 (both big bodied mids). I’m just hoping we don’t end up with Armstrong.

Don’t want to knock a kid, but I am happy with JVR-Turner-Jeffo as young KPF stocks at the moment. Petty can go back with may approaching retirement. 

What we need is pace and class in the midfield/off HB.

I think we need to get a centre square midfielder out of one of the two picks (probably pick 5).

There are options available and I'd probably choose either Smith or Langford (assuming Lalor and O'Sullivan aren't available).

They're very different types of centre square midfielder, so it'd be a difficult choice.

I tend to think that the last few flags have been won by fleet footed running midfields, so I'd likely err on the side of Smith. I'm not a big Draper fan and Smilie scares me, so I'd consider going a different direction (Tauru/Armstrong) if they weren't available.

As for pick 9, I think we need a bit of a 'difference maker' up forward because they're difficult to find. I'm not dogmatic about the style of forward difference maker, as it could be a big forward, a powerful medium or a clever small. We just need players that can turn small advantages into scores. Armstrong is one, but so is Hynes (who would both complement a JVR/Jeffo combination), and even Reid or Hotton as a high half forward that can turn small advantages into goals.

I wonder how much Goodwin/Lamby looks at the condition/headspace Jeffo comes back in before making a call on what to do with #9 (or even 5)… perhaps too frivolous but if Jefferson doesn’t look like he wants to grab the bull by the horns this year I would be looking to an Armstrong/Shanahan with that #9

If they were on the fence about a mid v. tall with pick 9 and Jeffy comes back looking bigger, runs a PB and has sticky mitts in skills sessions then maybe that might push them down a path?
 

Having said that I have no idea how they think about list strategy so it might be completely irrelevant

Don't know about that I feel it all comes down to who's available at 5 and our potential to fill certain positions in the future. 

Maybe if we know Khalani White and or Derksen still keen we just grab 2 mids

Yes, I agree about the forward 'difference maker' - frankly we don't 'need' a big 195+cm forward. Don't get me wrong, they are great to have if you can get one of the 8 in the game... But failing that - can you get a player who can make on a lead, or is an amazing 1-1 marker, or has great goal sense AND might also be a great mid in or out. 

I am no draft watcher or expert but that is what I see with a couple of these taller mids - Langford, Hynes, et al - they look like a player that could play a role in the forward 50 and give a target and make life easier for JVR, Fritsch and Pickett.

According to today's Herald Sun, Carlton may throw a "curve ball" and choose Sid Draper instead of Finn O'Sullivan.

Adelaide would then look to possibly take Harvey Langford.

Would the Demons take Finn O'Sullivan if he was available at pick #5?
