• Freo OO form this year has been a bit meh.
• Freo have been belted In recent years on wet grounds even if not raining; several times at OO.
• We have practiced wet weather play in a real game; they haven't (that I've noticed).
• Not sure Freo know how to play a ground level, territory game which is the key in wet conditions.

I think the boys will, and rightly should be hurting after the poor effort in Alice Springs too… we lost a heap of credibility that day so beat them on their home deck in front of their supporters would also be a sweet way to earn some respect again.

Surely we don’t risk Gawn? But also we need to win.

He’ll need to meet certain physiological criteria + biological markers and then his own internal sense of where he is at. 

If all are positive, it’s a straight forward answer.

same, we need to be a team that is more than just one player, and I think we are proving that.  Hearing Chris Scott on AFL 360 was interesting the other night. Talking about not having Guthrie and Dangerfield meant that they could put more time into Bruhn and Bowes. Ultimately in the end when these established players come back, the group as a whole is strengthened, and better than if they didn't have that opportunity.  

Getting games into Tholstrup & Moniz Wakefield by placing Rivers in the midfield makes our list stronger as a whole, when we do eventually get Petracca back into the team, we are all the better. 

Match Committee obviously haven't thought that the scenario with Gawn is the same by bringing in new players, but by stretching our existing players by putting them in unfamiliar roles is a better path at the moment.

Conversely, you take Cripps out of Carlton and they will not win games. Take Trac or Gawn, or Clarry out of our side and we've shown we can win.

While respecting the fact that Hawthorn have a solid form line for the past 6-8 weeks I don't think anyone rates them as a top 4 side, yet they were able to bring Freo undone. I would have a good look at what tactics they used to achieve this result.

I'm not even sure that C Scott was suggesting that they were covering the players in the absence. Just that when things normalise, they are stronger as a result.

I don't think Cameron will be too much of a loss for Brisbane, they have other forwards to cover and he's not in great form. Losing Neale would hurt them more.

Gawn tends to have minimal impact in the wet because his work around stoppage is average and his real value is marking around the ground. I actually think we'd be better with JvR in the ruck again as his follow up work at stoppage is elite and keeping Petty down forward to try and nullify Pearce/Cox.

Ultimately, winning next week is far more important in my mind. Freo is going to make the 8 regardless, while GWS is a game we simply have to win to stop them from taking our spot. Rest Gawn for one more week to ensure he's 100% and ready to go against Briggs.

I think Freo are a real threat.

More so than the bombers.

They even had Swans measure at the Scg

We were terrible against them but there's a reason they had  a 100 points win against one of the best backlines in the comp.

They are a very good side this year.

Definitely ahead of the Bombers, still not sold on their September credentials but hey it’s so even you might be right.

We can’t be risking Gawn now if he isn’t 95%, I’d rather play without him this week if it means he is better for it for the remainder of the season. If it hypothetically costs us finals so be it, it’s about more than this year anyway and if one game is the difference we probably weren’t going to be a contender anyway.

Carlton have the midfield depth and system in place in being able to cover off Cripps.

Was no different to how we were able to cover off Oliver last year. They'd have guys like Hewett, Elijah Hollands (a midfield star at under 18 level) Kennedy, Walsh and Cerra still able to run through the midfield and provide enough coverage. They covered off Walsh this year just fine when he missed the first 5 games and he's an absolute star in the making.

Brisbane will be fine without Cameron. They have enough fire power up forward to cover him off. Averaging 1.6 goal a game which isn't something to write home about from his previous standard. I see someone like Kai Lohmann who's stepped up significantly this year and has become a goalkicker small to medium forward. 

I would say Kozzie Pickett for instance is a far bigger loss for us then people underestimate and that's far more harder to cover off imo then Oliver. His unique ability to score up forward and provide defensive pressure then its his midfield craft now and ability to just change game within minutes. His current trajectory right now is up there with some of the best small forwards this game has seen in the last decade as shown by one of the footy shows earlier this week. He's that good.

Since the start of last year kozzie has missed 4 games due to suspension. We're 1-3 when Kozzie isn't playing..

I agree on Kozzy. He's super important for us, but disagree on Cripps. He's so far their most important player it's not funny. But agree to disagree.

Curnow is fair too. If Cripps or Curnow go down, they're not winning the flag IMO.

I get a feeling Clarry is going to play a big one this Saturday. Can see an incline in his energy/fitness, but just as importantly, I think that gammy hand of his is healing. At the very least, I believe he’s put the worst behind him for a long time.
