It's been put to me at best it's a 50/50, and this was a few weeks ago. Personally can't see a signing happening now, unless of course it's still somewhat dependent on the coaching move/announcement.

They just never signed it and it dragged on

Found out recently that McVee was promised midfield time and then Goodwin didn't think he was good enough to get it based on what he saw in training

Seems unlikely he would sign now but I'm sure his management will sit with the new coach

Poor man management if that’s the case - if he didn’t think he was good enough, why make the promise?

Only speculation but I wonder if there was a similar situation with Rivers? Although I will admit he had his best game of the year at half back this weekend

Come the lifting of the cup and mad Mondays we all know what comes to town next. Tbt advance agents are already setting up their tents.

With some ginormous offers pending and a few clubs announcing their intention to really get in amongst it I can see the possibility of one of two things playing out for us. Either trading gets blown out of the water and we're left flailing or.. and this is where it might get very lucrative....or... in the eagerness of some clubs to get 'their men' other players become collateral discards. Also, maybe the opportunity to do some clever wheeler dealing of picks. We certainly need that.

If we're only after a couple then we might just be able to crib a few our way whilst all the excitement is elsewhere.

I don't quite share Roos' ultra enthusiasm for our list. Yes there are more than a dozen premiership players but that was then and this is now. I think it needs work.

Just how down and dirty are we prepared to dig ?

For most of the season (and honestly for about 3 year now) Bayley has jogged around in second gear. It's not that he doesn't tackle enough it's that he sits and watches play go by until he makes a defensive effort and then invariable it's too little too late. The number of sloppy too high free kicks he gives away is abysmal.

Plus the terrible attempts at winning a contested ball on the deck and over reliance on the get the ball out the back efforts at contested marking rather than playing in front and being willing to wear a defender crashing in to you.

Similarly he's been tried up the ground and for such a skilled player his ball use and decision making are dreadful. He looks like a local football when up the ground.

Now the last 6 weeks or so the penny has appeared to drop a little. He's putting in more effort at the contest and defensively as well as finding the ball consistently. But we've also played a very soft draw. I'd probably still have a draft pick in mind at which point I'd be willing to let him go. He's far from untouchable. But for now anyway he's not almost free to a good home as he would've been mid year.

Actually agree.

Needs to and can do much better. Seems to pick and choose.

Quite possibly he won't be alone in being assessed as keep or trade.

We need to do a bit of a Hawthorn dare I say and that will undoubtedly make some unhappy.

It's been suggested St Kilda have made that offer. Going all guns blazing for TDK and Reid? Will cost them NAS.
Throwing the cash everywhere, thats why Cal Wilkie is upset Leek Aleer (8 games) will be getting paid as much as he is.

Plenty of talk about whether training at Casey would put prospective players off but what about teams that play at soulless Docklands as opposed to the MCG?

I'd also say that given our list, given the way the game is currently being played and given he's already embedded in Melbourne and in our VFL side, would it be crazy to offer him a lifeline in the hope that we could release Salem or Bowey to a half forward/pocket over the off-season?

A cheaper option and a player who would cost nothing but a list spot. Can set us up at half back and potentially give a more senior player or at the least, a player who is highly skilled a new lease on life in the forward line?

Bowey and Salem both played half forward in their unders. And their skill set is something we're crying out for in that area of the ground. And if we don't trade Salem, I really think it could be a circuit breaker for him. I'd much prefer a player with high footy IQ and great ball use in that position over an elite runner. Sure you have to be defensively minded but [censored] me if we had players who could use the ball through the middle of the ground and at half forward, we'd be okay.

And the instruction should be for our poor users to give to great users at all costs anyway. Get some quality users on the wings and at half forward and we'd look a lot better.

It's a relatively cheapish experiment. We've let others slip through our fingers. If he's not really costing a list option... 🤔🤷‍♂️👍

Has anyone heard of selling while market is high and not low.

Fritsch puts a few good games together and demonland goes from he's pathetic to a must keep. Lever had major ankle surgery and was perhaps rushed and/or mismanaged with it. An injury free pre-season and he'll be back to his best.

Fritsch has value now and it's either take that value or gamble he will perform consistently for the length of a full season.

There are 3 players we could have traded for heaps. Trac, Oliver and Petty and now we would be lucky to get a first rounder from all 3.

It's super risky. Oliver is classic example of the problems big, long-term contracts can bring. I wouldn't sign anyone more than 4 years. I'll just take the generous AFL compo if they walk.

No we could of traded him after his first incidents or the year after that... Or if he was on a contract that had a bit more flexibility we could actually get something back if a club was interested.

I’m not sure you watch the draft and trade period, that’s exactly what happens. You make offers and clubs then accept, or reject.

Players won’t magically start playing if we don’t attempt to get them.
