My trade targets for 2025:

Bailey Smith - Superstar, love this kid.  But we aren't in the running by the sounds.  Hope we at least made a play

Dylan Shiel/L. Parker - Midfield depth we need whilst our young guys come through

Ned Reeves - good solid young ruck, coukd become a good AFL ruck

Reilly O'Brien - good AFL ruck, on the outer at Adel, just as a back up so doubt he would be interested

Josh Battle - very nice player, sounds like it's Hawks or Saints though

Isaac Cumming - I see as a Lever type and a very good player that can't get a gig in his normal spot at GWS

James Peatling - Can't break into GWS, good solid midfielder out of contract.

Rory Lobb - If we don't get a ruck or fwd and he is cheap, yup do it.  But has to be cheap

Others to consider but only depth players:

Davies(GC), Ladhams(Syd), Parfitt(Geel), Hewett(Carlt), Membrey(STK), Powell(Nth), Daniel(WBD), O'Driscal(Freo), Rayner(Bris)

If we could pry a big fwd from somewhere that be great  just no options really so would have to be a big deal.

Calling Rayner depth is bold. He hasn’t quite lived up to the hype but he’s definitely more than depth

There’s a lot of players here who aren’t in their side’s best team for a reason; I doubt they’d be in ours either

We already have a lot of sloppy seconds who aren’t in our best 26; we don’t need more list cloggers on good coin

Ben Hobbs from the dons is someone i rate highly, i'm surprised to see him out of the senior team, i think he'd slot nicely into the age profile and needs of our list.

It's unlikely he'd want to go/they'd be willing to trade him but i think that's the type of player we should be looking for, young top end talent that perhaps isn't getting the opportunities they would with us.

All those players I have done a write up on walk into our team besides the rucks.

Really? Please expand. Who would replace who?

you think? i'm not sure sure...

  • smith - yes, but his limitations with disposal are clear for all to see
  • shiel - no
  • parker - yes, he's the 'senior player' i'd love us to target
  • reeves - would not be in our best 23
  • o'brien - same
  • cumming - not sure who he'd replace in our best 23
  • peatling - borderline
  • lobb - doubt it, hope not

of the others you listed, rayner would be a walk-up start in any team's side, daniel borderline, and the others not so much

What about Essendon’s third ruckman, Bryan? He monstered our back-up rucks at Casey, and won’t get much of a gig behind Draper in the near future.

Dunno about that Draper bit?

Agree with this, but I think Cumming would replace a Bowey or AMW quite comfortably.

Luke I said ones I wrote up about besides the ruck.  Not others listed.

Smith, Lobb and Peatling walk into out side straight away.

Sheil and Parker are upgrades on Sparrow

Cumming would take the AMW spot

Smith - anyone.  Would be perfect for our midfield mix

Sheil/Parker/Peatling - Sparrow

Lobb - Any of our key fwds besides JVR

Cumming - AMW

No way Lobb and Peatling are walking straight into our side.

Lobb would be, as much as we don't want to admit it

Peatling would be fringe

Exactly, I hate Lobb as well but he 100% walks into our forward line.

Peatling is better than Sparrow, im hoping Sparrow turns it around.  But has been very average this year with a down Oliver and Petracca out

Does he? I'd take JVR, Turner and Petty. And if we throw Petty down the other end next year, that leaves a spot for Jefferson.

yeah, funnily enough lobb's best form for the dogs has been as a tall defender

Do we look at the the SANFL/VFL fort mature Rucks?

  • Harry Boyd - Norwood - 26 years/198cm/108kg - Best Ruck in the SANFL last 3 seasons

I 'called' this, too, after seeing his BOG effort in their 2022 GF win, noting he was a VIC (Shepp?) boy, too. But I also think there's been some critical reviewing of him on here since then?

Yes, although wasn't he less effective 'around the ground' than our boys?

Don’t think he was that great around the ground. Gee we miss LJ…

JVR yup.  Rest no, Lobb easily makes it in front of Petty and Turner as a fwd.  And would go into the ruck allowing JVR to play full time forward.

I hope Jefferson takes that spot too, but atm he isn't

Linked to Dan Houston & Cumming

Edited by adonski

VICTORIAN clubs have a trade watch on Port Adelaide star Dan Houston, who is contracted to the Power for another three seasons.

Houston has strong personal ties in Victoria, where he was drafted from the Oakleigh Chargers in 2015, but is signed to the Power until the end of 2027.

The 27-year-old was last year named an All-Australian for the first time after a brilliant year with the Power and came third in the club's best and fairest.

He has played every game this season and last week gathered 34 disposals and nine rebound-50s against Gold Coast.

Melbourne has been linked among the clubs with interest in Houston, who clubs from Victoria have kept close tabs on through his career.

Houston has played 163 games for the Power and is in the club's leadership group. He signed an extension with the club at the start of 2022 which runs for three more seasons. – Callum Twomey

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
