The Narrm Curse

I donโ€™t know if the Naarm Curse is a real thing but at least the club could consult with the Kulin elders to provide advice on the matter

It just so happens I spoke to uncle Colin about this.

He thinks we need to get back to our tried and trusted contested game plan, tell max to tap it our players rather than theirs and work on mid forward connection.

sound advice I reckon

What other very easily identifiable observable realities do you incorrectly assess with win loss ratios?ย

IMO this whole thread is disrespectful to MFC and in particular to its indigenous players and officials.ย

Moderator should note some of the unsavoury comments and act appropriately.

What are the unsavoury comments ?ย

If we canโ€™t acknowledge that when we play as Narrm we generally lose then we need to harden up a bit I suspectย

Some people just donโ€™t seem comfortable with facts and truthย

Did anyone consult with the ghost of Norm Smith about the name change? ย Heโ€™s sees all & if heโ€™s not happy we donโ€™t play wellย

Just when we ended the Norm Smith curse 3 years ago; we now have another.

Happy for one round, its a great to see Naarm out there, but more than that dilutes the significance of the indigenous round and the importance of winning games of footyย

Yes, correlation doesn't equal causation (still, we should definitely engage in a cleansing ceremony in the case of an at least psychosomatic curse), but that doesn't mean you outright ditch the data.

Better practice would be to examine any co-attendent explanations for the coincidence, such as the loading theory, which doesn't seem like it would be the case this year based on our fixture.

But we also wear different uniforms during Indigenous round, and some players are likely to have a higher media burden. Which is the same for all clubs, so shouldn't especially impact ours.ย

We also won games with the jumper change prior to the name one. Without looking at the results however, our jumpers have graduated to a lighter shade over time and gotten a bit busier.

It's a '360' game - being able to instinctively pick out the movement of teammates from a chaotic background is as an important factor. I also doubt this is the issue, but it's an attempt at explanation.ย

Could be the Naarm Smith Curse.

ย

I'm tired of symbolic /tokenistic bullshyte not just in the AFL ,but globally.

ย

All we need is a game played as Narrm, on a thursday or friday night, in the rain.

Statisically the chances of a win would round to zero.

No Naarm this week, just a plain old Melbourne curseย

Iโ€™ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we wonโ€™t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything youโ€™d like to ask or say below and weโ€™ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics youโ€™d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
