Lucky they have that perspex thing to cover them or they would have copped it. Saw umpire 32 stop, glare at one of them and just shook his head in disgust before walking down under the stand. Absolute filthy animals. Anyone would have thought they had been screwed out of a win. Fair dinkum you blokes. The umpires do NOT have a set against the Dees. The umpires do NOT try to swing games in favour of the other teams. If they did, they would be out of a job. Full stop. They do occasionally make errors - split second decision, partially obscured view, all of that - but can we please stop this mindless bleating as though we are some sort of perfect team that never makes mistakes? Don't forget, the more F'ing and B'ing you blokes do only drags our game down and deters people from becoming umpires. Stop it. Just make sensible, analytical statements about our players, coach and game plans and the opposition players, coach and game plans. Talk about what you saw, not what you imagine. When you blame the umpires, it only makes you look like a nuff-nuff. 8 1 1 2 Quote

It would be hard for him to get to the top.of that ladder from here. I'd think Max's got more chances as of today. Only point I'm making is he's more valuable to us as a F50 player. He want more midfield minutes over more forward time. Sucks but true unfortunately. Quote
Hatchman 539 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Weitering was incredible last night, hell of a player. He was the difference in my view Changing our game plan to go forward at all costs in the last quarter came too late in the game but I was pleased to see us pull it back to a close loss. AFL needs to get serious on players deliberately throwing their heads into the ground, it's being milked for free kicks and the players know it <-- we're no different to every other team. Unless it's a totally obvious sling tackle it should not be paid, or we start making padded helmets mandatory (which in my view we should be doing but I'm not about to have that debate as I am no expert) 1 Quote

Fork 'em 7,052 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 (edited) Firstly ..... Thursday games suck. Was on arvo shift tonight so only managed to only see the 3rd qtr and then the last when I got home. Small mercies I guess. 2nd .... I saw Goodwin talk about earning respect from the football public after last weeks game. Prime time free to air TV, everybody watching and we stink it up like that. That's not how you earn respect. As I said I was at work so didn't see the 1st half but I had every-one in the joint gleefully giving me updates. Sure they'd changed their tune by the end but the big comeback fell short. But ya know what, though frustrating I saw a team working as a team to the final siren. And if they keep doing that, well that's all I can ask for. I can't fault their commitment. Just gotta strap ourselves in to see if we stay fit and then good enough in the big moments often enough. Yeah we got our foibles but so does every club. We're in this marathon up to our eyeballs. See if we can kick straight when it counts. Edited May 9, 2024 by Fork 'em Quote
Skuit 10,031 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 This hot-take is a little bit for @binman. I worked out why BT stands out as a particularly loathsome commentator among a hotly contested field, beside the obvious. He doesn't use qualifiers. Everyone gave BruceMac grief for framing every statement with 'you feel like' or 'don't you think' - but BT just says dumb [censored] as if it is fact, and doesn't seem to have a good handle on nuance. 2 Quote
Superunknown 4,246 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 We are not good enough to win it, it’s that simple Same as last year poor composure, poor kicking we are the Greg Norman of the AFL last year was our 96 Masters This year pick any one of his other throw aways there is zero accountability for the umpriring which only compounds the disaster - will Pert or anyone say anything? Doubtful, just like the Maynard incident - crickets 1 Quote

He had more time than he realised. Even a point would have been handy then! 3 Quote

Bring-Back-Powell 15,548 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 I’ll be happy to see the back of Thursday night footy. We’ve lost 6 of our last 7 Thursday night games with the one win occurring on the “business trip” earlier this year. I think heard earlier that that upcoming round 16-23 fixture release will have little to no Thursday night games. 3 1 Quote
dees189227 12,512 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Look goody summed it up. The damage was done at 1/4 time. Yes that should have been paid holding the ball to van rooyen, but we also got away with one when they didn't pay the one when Windsor put his head into the tackle & took on the players. What annoyed me was twice trac kicked goals then came off. I get rotations but at that point he was our only player in the forward line doing something 2 Quote
seventyfour 1,248 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 (edited) The team completely lost my trust last night. I won't believe we'll win a final until I see it happen, which is going to make for a long, long year. Our scoring issues have been around for 2+ years now. They aren't going away. Old Time Demon 85 Posted May 9, 2024 Posted May 9, 2024 Hello all. A few things from last evening: I thought we started to fire when Max got angry. That seemed to filter through the team and they all started to play with more aggression. The first quarter. Yes, the Blues looked good BUT....how many of their shanked kicks went straight to a team mate? How many times did the bounce of the egg shaped ball go their way? I can't recall which of our players was involved but we had a mark/free kick at CHF in the last quarter and there was a clear infringement by a Carlton player worthy of a 50 metre penalty. The player acknowledged it too but of course, it wasn't awarded. Woey. For me, the hallmark of a good footballer is one who rises to the occasion when the pressure is really on. He did exactly that and, at least in my eyes, has leapfrogged many. I'm loathe to knock the young man, but JVR needs a spell at Casey. Stick with Petty/Turner/Fritsch, throw a fit McAdam into the mix and consider Fullerton for ruck relief. Midfield. Rivers has been suggested by several as a future mid. For my money, McVee is the man. Clean hands, a nice kick and calm under pressure. Food for thought when Salem returns. 2 Quote
