Is anyone able to confirm if Laurie is training with the mids?

Looks like the mids for Laurie.

Clarry looks fine, going about it with plenty of concentration and professionalism.

Some strapping, I didn't notice any hinderances.

Thanks Kev.  He's done that at his other sessions with the hand issue.

Sounds like all's well though.  Coach says all good etc.

Thanks mate. Hunter Casey as well?

Yes

Swung forward in the VFL last week in the second half and provided a hard contest and kicked a really nice goal. Competitive as anything. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a crack forward. Although I would’ve liked Fullarton to get a go. Anyway, it’s clear the chances rate Disco very highly.

Bowey doing some high marking off the bag. Seems to be trusting his shoulders. He doesn't have any strapping on. Doing some tackling drills as well. Giving the shoulder a good test.

Casey session just finished and they are off the paddock, except for Bowser, and Farris-White (who was marking the long high bal).

Good to hear Bowey running around again. Would love for Turner to get a run at it. Petty replacement perhaps?

I am not a BBB hater, but my issue with Ben is he doesn't really provide us with any other options apart from mark, kick etc. He is too frequently outmarked and unable to bring the ball to ground, his forward pressure, chasing etc is almost non-existent, he can only play one position, and at times, he is diabolical in terms of output. He is yet to kick a bag for us. If Turner gets a go, at the very least he will provide us with an improved contest and increased forward pressure. Yes, BBB has been good at times, but moving forward we need improvement in the areas he is deficient. Lets give Turner a go.

It strikes me as a square peg in a round hole move. We need a 40 goal plus forward which BBB can be.

Would have preferred this move to be trialled at Casey for a few weeks.

If Oliver is at full strength I can't see much sense in Laurie's inclusion. Unfortunately he may well go the way of Jordon and Bedford at season's end

Laurie has recently signed on until 2026, can't see him going at season's end.

Disappointed if Kolt is dropped.

Think you have to give new kids a small run at it, not just one game, especially where the whole side was pathetic and he was far from the worst.

New kids need confidence and dropping him in the above circumstances is not helpful imo.

He will if he can't get a game. It is the way of things

I think if you rate the kid and he played last week on merit, then you should play him against the Tigers. As you say he wasn’t disgraced and was surrounded by senior players who weren’t up to par.

If they play Laurie as a sub I will be equally disappointed.

Gee we love playing players who haven't played or trained for weeks don't we. And as Demonland said, struggles up forward, let's throw a defender up there.

I still think we are too tall, JVR and Petty is all we need. Turner will not be the answer unless we are reverting back to the long dump kick and try and re set and win/score off contest/stoppages.

Rewarding Laurie for his Casey game is nice but he has to be played through the middle if we are to truly see if he can cut it.

Thanks for your great report Kev.  We now pretty much know tomorrow’s team!

Melbourne re-signed him on a 2 year contract extension literally 4 weeks ago. They wouldn’t do that if they wanted to trade him in 4-5 months.

Meh, was a one game replacement as the only guy with some pace for Pickett. He’ll get plenty more chances. I worry about continuity for guys in years 3-4 on the fringes, like Laurie and even Taj.

All that means is that we want to keep him, if BL and his manager think he's an AFL level player at another club, and he has a good suitor we are a chance to lose him.

That's not to say we should pick him if we don't think he's best 22, that's just the landscape the game exists in now

Seems it will either be Laurie as sub for fresh midfield legs, Disco forward with the ability to swing if we need a change.

Or, Tracc forward (post centre bounce) with Laurie forward/mid and Disco sub.

Weather might play a role.

Super warm the last 2 days so might be rain coming although forecast suggests not.

It’s far from an ideal prep for Disco, one Casey game after a decent lay off. But before you knock it I’d ask, did you watch the VFL game?

7 months after extending his contract? Imagine that

I disagree. If Laurie or his management weren’t sure of his position or were considering options, they wouldn’t have signed the new deal. They would just wait and have an easier way to leave without being in contract.

Disco made a difference when he went forward in the second half last week. The coaches liked him there last year too. Provides a strong marking contest.

He also played a VFL scratch match the week before the Port Melbourne win. So two full games is enough I’d say.

he’ll be at the club in 2025, however if he doesn’t cement his spot next year I’m sure at the end of 25’ will be when options are considered.
