This is a somewhat scandalous thing to bring up on Demonland but there’s a thing called The Tom $cully Medal which is the Brownlow for runners. Our own Ed Langdon is comfortably leading the pack with 15 votes which bears witness to the fact that he’s back in town this year after a couple of seasons below his Olympian standards of our 2021 premiership year.

Votes are awarded to the players with the most kilometres during each game on a 3-2-1 votes basis. I hope he wins so that we can start a campaign to rename it after Ed himself.

ANB not there? That’s a surprise.

Certainly is. I have always thought ANB’s GPS would be off the charts during a game

Against Adelaide it was Langdon 15.5kms, ANB 15.2 and Ned McHenry 15.0

Against Port it was Langdon 15.4, D Houston 14.5 and ANB 14.4

v Hawks Langdon 15.0, TMcDonald 14.7 F MacGuiness 14.6 ANB not in the top 5

v Dogs Langdon 16.2 Bont 14.4 Fritsch (!!) 14.4, TMac and Rivers next

v Swans Langdon 15.8, ANB 15.5 Gulden 15.1

What a machine Langdon is!

So ANB should have 5 votes, and therefore must have been missed for some reason.

So why is ANB not on the above list then? Weird.

Couple of surprises there. TMac and Fritta. Always knew TMac was a long distance beast but in his current role? And Fritta... huge surprise!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
