This was a great game and saw our stars back firing but ffs can we please shelve this one.

It never works, he never holds them and he just ends up out of a contest that he needs to be in.

Sometimes he has no choice when he is the only demon against two much bigger opponents. This was the case yesterday the result was a losse ball. Otherwise he would have simply been out marked.

Isn't it great to go to sleep pondering a 7 goal win.

Not bad to wake up to one this morning either Jontee.

The crumb goal Chandler got was a case in point, the kick to brown wasn’t great and Khamis was a chance to mark it but BBB with his reach was able to spoil it to the front where Chandler was waiting.

That’s the sort of stuff that’s been missing and it gives the small forwards a chance to do their job. I know the Schache point has been done to death but my biggest disappointment isn’t that he’s not Tom Hawkins or that he doesn’t kick 8 week on week but that he doesn’t compete and bring it to ground at the front of the pack where his teammates can do their bit.

I hate to disagree with you but it was right in front of me and the ball came over the back right into his hands and he strolled in for the goal.

How many score reviews? 🤔

Idk how many but I know there was enough to make quarters way longer than they should’ve been. Every unnecessary minute in that baking sun felt like an hour.

Credit when it's due.

T Mac did well and deserves another game.

Would you of said the same about tomlinson the week before?

If your talking about Kozzie then your right......there were a couple of times he leaped really high against two tall defenders and stopped them from marking.

Im with you WCW - we need to start a class action against the AFL for skin cancer victims

I said after the Sydney game that we will wither in the vine if we continue to ignore the short hit up kicks and bomb it in long to the fwd line.

Footy Classified showed vision of doing this on multiple occasions and was scathing of us.

Pleased to see this week the coaching staff turned that around completely.

129 uncontested marks against the Dogs v 60 against Sydney. Allowed us to control the game and left the dogs chasing tail on a hot afternoon.

Lots of players were 'rewarded' with goals and goal assists. Its great for team camaraderie and confidence.

It doesn't have to be that many every week but its something we practiced in the pre-season and it paid off.

Go Dees.

Those goal umpires love their moments in the sun.

Best game by chandler for a while,

billing’s was good BBB. Fantastic TMac very solid as was May. All played well really

pity frites could not kick straighter

but pleased to win

We looked the better team at both ends of the ground.  The midfield was a good battle, we probably won out in the end.

The forward line looks so much better with BBB, Kozzie is a weapon wherever he goes, allows Chin and others more space.

TMac was streets ahead of Tommo, the backline structured up very, very well.

Happy to admit I was wrong about TMac and BBB both were very solid today…most pleasing thing for me was how tough and hard we were, had Bulldogs players jumping out of the way…I thought last week the Swans out hunted us so great to see the “1 wood” back

Having a tall, mobile and hard hitting backline makes a huge difference and helps out the smaller players so much.

Sorry Jnr, not sure i follow.

What history did i revise?

You are correct that we had issues defensively - both in terms of personnel and system in 2018.

My love child omac was preferred ahead of Lynden Dunn back in 2016 because unlike Dunn, Omac COULD play in a zone system and play the role the coach asked him to (Roos was coach, but goody was already working on implementing his zone defence system - which goes to my point about the kudos he deserves).

Dunn couldn't - or wouldn't - adjust his game and just wanted to be a man on man defender and so we stopped playing him (much to the angst of many on here).

It's no coincidence ahead of Goody's first year as senior coach (2017) we shipped Dunn to the Pies (where he was happy being an old school one on one defender playing in an old school one on one defensive system).

In 2018 Goody was still developing his zone and all team defensive system.

Frost continually pulled the defensive grid out of shape by running up the ground and doing random Frost stuff. Frost ball doesn't work in a zone defence, or at least not the one Goody designed. And so he was shipped too (in 2019).

Goody, needing a quality interceptor for his system to work targeted Lever, trading him in at the end of his first season as senior coach (2017).

Unfortunately, in the year you reference, 2018, Lever did his ACL half way through the year, and could only manage 8 games in 2019.

You'll get no argument from me that Petty, who we picked up in the 2017 draft was by 2021 a better option than Omac.

Petts looked like a star from the get go. But Omac was at the dees until the end of 2020 and played an important role in the evolution of the defensive system that Goody had started developing way back in 2016.

As i said goody made it his number one priority to build an elite defensive system - a project that took 5 years, and yes the right personnel.

And a key part of his strategy was using up A LOT of capital to bring in two A grade defenders in May and Lever.

(by the by, on demonland there were many posters who argued we pulled the wrong rein with lever and paid overs/too much).

Where's the revision?

The revisionism is that you were trying to make it sound like Goodwin reinvented the game and was prepared to trade a bona fide star Hogan for May and Lever.

Blind Freddy could see we needed two rock solid defenders as defence wins flags. OMac and Frost were the worst in the league at stopping goals so it was hardly a revelation.

As for Hogan, well its fair to say he was unreliable, troubled and not yet a bona fide star . I'll leave it that.

I thought it was only me.......I have noticed the NRL always looks better in HD and 4K.  On another note, I'm enjoying the flying camera this year.

Perhaps the recorded version was not 4K.. do I have to select 4K recording on Foxtel ?

Nah, that's not it. You just wanted to shoehorn in a way to dunk on an ex-player, Oscar McDonald, for no good reason other than that you seem to hate him.

He's played AFL footy at 3 clubs despite being cruelled by some very serious injuries, including fighting his way through the VFL despite having spinal fusion surgeries. He also seems like lovely guy and a really weird played to have a grudge against.

I've met Oscar he's a lovely bloke

Speaking of shoehorning his way into a conversation.....

I nominate Fritta for handball of the year so far.

Someone mentioned on Demonland that the increase in score reviews is being said to be related to advertising time. Well David King on SEN basically said the same. He has a suspicion that advertising is playing a part (as well as goal umpires seemingly being afraid to back themselves in)

I wonder if the memo to goal umpires has been something like: ‘if there’s even 0.0001% doubt, go to score review’

Loved seeing May smash Harmes

I know you come from the old school of "he doesn't play for us anymore", but I for one (goes with my username) was happy to see him getting a kick and continuing his career - I think we got the best from him, and moved him on at the right time. His kick to hit up fritta in the grand final was not only the best kick I ever saw, it was the start of a massive turnaround in that grand final.

so many close games last season.

On the back of what happened to the Crows I expect we'll see plenty more reviews this year.

Advertising $ won't hurt 'em either

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
