Used the trigger word, sorry for the confusion. I wouldn't know if they are in a 'loading' program.

The trainers worked them hard, sprints after the sim.

How’s Petty looking?

Great, moving well, I think still underdone fitness wise. Completed the training with extra runs and sprints.

Must be a temptation to bring Petty in and lock him around the forward goal square.

Appeared happy.

Well that’s good news

Thanks KM.   Must be hot but demonland must be informed.    Thanks

A half fit Petty is probably better than the next choice

I think they'll use BBB as the sacrifice forward if he's half fit

Your welcome, the heat wasn't too bad (heating up a bit later), it was the dryness that is draining.

BBB in rehab, no running, mainly stretching and simple ball handling.

The Colt is certainly made of the right stuff, wrestling JV after a heavy training session, love it.!!

Colt sounds very interesting...when do we think he might be ready for a run?  Pretty keen to see him out there I reckon he'd add something by the sound of it.

Really just want McAdam available, he was meant to help fix all this nonsense in the forward line and where is he?  Anyone know anything about his current situation and when he might be back?

Thanks Kev

Perhaps they are trying light training mixed with match days (one can only hope)

IIRC Buddy didn't attend match training for his last few years

Goody mentioned 3-4 weeks in his presser last week.

I think Petty, Koz and McAdam all make us better, and i hope we can get them all fit and firing.

But let's be patient, it's a long season

They are loading.

What do you mean by saying they’re loading?

Hard running after the session, a few on their haunches, and some underdone are given extra repeats.

General fitness, push them after the 4 day break.

I assume the trainers know how to get the best out of them.

I had a good chat with Melk late last season at a Casey match (he was an observer).  While we chatted about many things, i did manage to sneak in a question specifically about "loading".

His response...

"What's loading?" lol

So i tried to explain the theory as exposed on here re ramping up training eg; through extra track work / sprints / gym work outside of the usual training program.

His response....

"We just train and hit the gym.  Yes there are weeks where we do some extra work ie; on a long break between matches, but it's not something i notice or am aware of.

You may be referring to training 'loads' which is just another term for the amount of training we are asked to complete on the track each week.

Aside from that there's specific programmes for individuals coming back from injury etc but that's about it"

Could be right, he has had his own program at other times. Earlier on he was training with the group.

Did he play in the Casey Praccy?

If not I would be worried about his capacity to have an AFL ready body.

Whelan, the indigenous support worker, was also absent from training. First time I hadn’t seen him. Don't won't to speculate but I will, with McAdam and Whelan missing perhaps it is something personal.

Has the loading myth been busted or as a club do we keep it on the downlow?

Jake Melksham might not necessarily understand loading, so don’t dismiss the theory just yet.

Majority of AFL players are not sports scientists, in fact most are far from it.

Yes he played .

Got 2 goals but I didn't see any comments on his "movement"

That's good, probably means BBB has his own program and will be available down the track.

McAdam is now the odds on favourite for the Brownlow.

Gadzooks!  Will we ever fix this!??

Simon should allocate at least one entire training session every week to ensure we are NOT doing this.

Even if it means moving Stafford aside and taking over the whole session.

It’s not really up to us. Are we not training for the way teams will inevitably play us?

DONT DO IT!

PLAY BBB, FULLARTON, BILLINGS gets a full game and Salem l plays back

Out Bowey, Spargo, Laurie,

In BBB, Fullarton, Kozzy, Chandler sub

To some degree yes Von.

There's no doubt we put time into the oppo.  Including strategy, possibly targeted training and of course at the selection table.

But the bulk of what we do, according to the Coach anyway, is targeted at playing the way we want to play and to our strengths.

That's my understanding anyway.

McAdam hammy.  Not expected to return before R5. (Source: J. Gabelich, AFL site)

I would back that in as being quite close to how his recovery is being managed early post op DJ.

In theory, if he's pulling up ok post any matches, then we should start to see him spending increased time in the main group as each week passes.

The reverse if he isn't pulling up so good.

The next step down would obviously not be so positive.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
