The lesson....

Melb needs better lawyers

There is no level field, no common sense,no adherence to proper procedures..  it's all ad hoc make it up as you go [censored].

Carlton do it regularly... now Lions have found a way...

That is the lesson.

The game is at a precipice...

No

We need the MRO to have played 132 games for us

And the tribunal chairman to be a dees fan

As I can't see that happening any century soon...  i'll go with the lawyers ;)

Laura Kane on SEN, basically said a legal tackle that won’t draw a free, may later when reviewed by the MRO be a 3 week suspension. When pressed she couldn’t explain it.

Now you know why the game is in disarray.

Haven't had the chance to read this thread, but a simple fix (in principle)

* acidental (legitimate footy act I.e well executed spoil, tackle, smother, etc) results in concussion - suspension is the same time as the concussed, but emain eligible for brownlow.

* careless (mistimed footy act) - suspension is the time of the concussed plus one week

* reckless (unrealistic attempt of a footy act) - suspension is the time of the concussed plus 2-3 weeks

* intentional (non footy act such as a punch, elbow, headbut, etc) - minimum 5 weeks, but grading should start at 8 and work up/down from that point

Note some may say it's unfair to lose a week for an accident, as it was legitimate footy act; but it is also unfair on the victim to lose a week - sometimes in footy you can just be unlucky (in this case both players).

re *1 - two going for a mark, head clash, one concussed (maybe after medical review), the other not concusses according to protocol but off for 10 minutes due to gash on head - no way should either be suspended.  That is a genuine footy act and accident, unlike setting up someone who has long disposed of the ball and is wide open.

Agree 100% re points 3 and 4

Seriously unable to explain that anomaly??!! 😮😡

Was she also asked to explain how she can remain in office if she can't explain that??  Should have been.

I must say I haven't followed her career in any way at all until this post, but she appears to have been a completely Incompetent appointment.    Was it DEI??

I don't think this is right.

Whether or not something is "likely to cause injury" is not the same as "will cause injury".

Bedford's tackle is the perfect example - it's not a type of tackle that is likely to cause injury because that type of tackle occurs 100s of times a Round without any injury occurring.

Put legalisms to one side. Do you really think Bedford deserved suspension for his tackle?

Yes I do if the AFL is serious about protecting the head. His tackle was dangerous in that he launched at Taranto dropping his full bodyweight down due to having no contact with the ground. He also had both Tarantos arms pinned. In the new environment that should be a suspension as Taranto ended with a concussion. Great effort by Bedford but he breached his duty of care to Taranto in the way that he tackled and should have been suspended. 3 weeks probably too much but at least 1 week.

Cameron the same, he drive him backwards he could have held Duggan up in the tackle or turned him sideways. Duggan's head was unprotected and he had both arms pinned with Cameron driving him backwards and so unable to protect himself. Suspension every day of the week.

Except, the AFL in their infinite and unquestionable wisdom, have enabled Cameron, yet again, to escape sanction.

What an absolute rabble.

So, Maynard elbows Krueger to the head, Krueger will miss next week with concussion, and Maynard will get a fine? Must be amazing being one of the big clubs.

Another amazing DEI hire.

How does it blow your mind?

Maynard ended a career before and got off with a premiership medal.

The devil works hard, but the Collingwood fan club MRO works harder.

of course christian being an ex-filth player had nothing to do with it 😮

he should recuse himself when adjudicating any filth player

i wonder if he threatened to resign this time if afl weren't happy with a fine?

elbowing a player deliberately in the face/throat should always be a holiday. it's the action of a thug.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
