Whispering_Jack 31,368 Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 The cream of the players in line for the 2024 AFL Draft will be on show on Grand Final Day. Future stars to feature ahead of 2023 Toyota AFL Grand Final 1 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Kade Herbert impressed me for SA under 18s in brief display during the championships. Will see how he goes in this. Strong midfield runner with goalkicking ability. May not be top 5 or 6 but likely still to be a 1st rounder. 1 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Good crop of youngsters there. A few names I liked this year include:- Christian Moraes Finn O'Sullivan Levi Ashcroft Jagga Smith Harvey Langford Josh Smillie Tom Gross Jesse Datolli Isaac Kako Thought Cooper Hynes might have gotten a gig as well but not named. A lot of small/medium mid forward types. 1 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 https://www.afl.com.au/news/1043330 Link for anyone interested, game is already into the 3rd quarter however. 1 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Only caught the last quarter and a half but the usual suspects played very well. Fairly free flowing low pressure style game Moraes, O'Sullivan, Smith, Draper all got plenty of the ball and were probably the stand-outs in the limited time I watched. Ben Camporeale also had a stack of the ball and used it well. Liked the work of Tom Gross while Jobe Shanahan and Josh Murphy look like decent taller prospects. Any info on Josh Murphy @dazzledavey36? i see he's a bushranger. Was marking the ball very well today. Another compromised draft coming up perhaps with; Ben and Lucas Camporeale, Ben probably the better of the Carlton f/s prospects on today's showing. Welsh (Adelaide f/s) wasn't overly involved in the last half but kicked a goal from more or less a kick in turn over, showed his potential earlier in the year with his performance as a bottom ager in the champs. Levi Aschroft, another Brisbane f/s and likely early selection while the Lions will also benefit from Sam Marshall as an Academy player who looms lile another great mid prospect. Leonardo Lombard also showed something as a Gold Coast academy prospect. Ricky Mentha and Clay Shadforth are a part of the NT academy, I wonder if either or both are apart of the Demons NGA zone. Haven't been able to ascertain that with a quick google so far. Also academy or club linked today were - Mitch Woods (Sydney) Joel Cochrane (Sydney) Joe Harrison (Sydney) Tom Gillet (Brisbane) At the moment, and very prematurely, I have next years top 5 as - 1. Finn O'Sullivan 2. Christian Moraes 3. Sid Draper 4. Levi Aschcroft (Brisbane f/s) 5. Jagga Smith 2 Quote
Pennant St Dee 13,452 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Didn’t mind the look of Smylie down back thought he showed a fair bit 1 Quote
ChaserJ 5,192 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 Smillie should go top 10 next year. Typically a Cripps type inside mid, but just was his first game back from injury. Midfield group has a fair bit more quality and depth next year. 2 Quote

spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 A few future stars obviously BUT again there’s the compromise of the Father/son and the AFL created academies for giants, swans , suns and the poor struggling lions 2 Quote

Gold Coast getting 3 in the top 15 is ridiculous. Should be maximum of being able to match a bid once in each round in my view. 3 Quote

Take away the points discount and enforce that the first matching pick has to be within one round ie 18 picks of the bid. Firmly re-instate that picks must equal available list spaces. That will ensure fairer value is paid. 3 Quote
Gawndy the Great 9,011 Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Carton and Lions benefit from F/S again. I’m sure there is a lost Daicos brother coming through the ranks too. Seriously when are we going to get a top 5 F/S. So many top 8 teams have benefited of 2-3 top 10 picks in recent times. You just know when we get our turn they’ll be some sort of rule change. 4 Quote

Kynan Brown may surprises and become a solid player too. 1 Quote

Yeah he was a great pick, but it doesn't compare to how much some teams have been able to benefit from the 'first access / matching' nature of F/S and academy. 4 Quote

spirit of norm smith 16,679 Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 26 in the academy. 5 of them are under team academy. Then 3 father sons. That leaves 18/26 as “available”. Harvey Langford was very good this year for Stingrays. Strong taller mid with good left foot disposal. Not overawed in the contest even as an underager this year. 1 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 Our 2024 picks based on the final ladder of 2023 13 31 (Syd) 48 (WB) 50 (St kilda - trade on draft night) 69 1 Quote

But it’s going to be compromised again by academy and father son picks. 1 Quote

I think the first 10 selections could be purely midfielders next year. As for key defenders, Noah Mraz was a youngster at Dandenong Stingrays this year. Light frame but good height and not overawed by bigger opponents. One to keep a watch on next year. 3 Quote
Chelly 859 Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 My early top 10 for next year 1. Finn O'Sullivan - 181cm Vic Country 2. Levi Ashcroft - 179cm Vic Metro (Lions F/S) 3. Sid Draper - 180cm South Australia 4. Josh Smillie - 194cm Vic Metro 5. Leonardo Lombard - 178cm Allies (Suns Academy) 6. Tyler Welsh - 191 cm South Australia (Crows F/S) 7. Jagga Smith - 181cm Vic Metro 8. Christian Moraes - 182cm Vic Metro 9. Tom Gross - 182cm Vic Metro 10. Ben Camporeale - 184cm South Australia (Carlton F/S) This suggests that we should be looking forward to more bidding for academy and father/sons but not to the scale extent that we saw in last week’s draft. 2 2 Quote
