If you’re raging about the tribunal, wait for the one sided umpiring on Friday night to help Carlton make the Grand Final.

As I keep saying, it's sports entertainment and Carlton = $$$$$ for HQ.

I love your overt cynicism (and probably subscribe a touch to it) -any thoughts on why they don't do this EVERY year?

Yes, sadly i fear any references to gameplans, selections etc are all somewhat moot.

We've done our dough for 23 and Friday isnt about us.

We've run out of cattle and not sure where our mojo is.

Had our chances....and squandered.

I would do almost anything to see us win the next 2 games.

We can beat Carlton.

Ok beating a red hot Brisbane lions will be super tough at the Gabba but strange things happen in finals.

Imagine the Pies horror if we made it through and played them. It would be their worst nightmare.

They know they were lucky to beat us. We were a side with a good player down. We missed easy shots at goal.

How nervous would Maynard be?

In the mean time, I will enjoy watching us beat Carlton.

The bigger crowds act as a 23rd man.

The Collingwood noise in that first quarter was absolutely nuts just from watching it on TV.

I then tune in to Carlton v Sydney and the roar when Cripps kicked that goal was like no other. Can't imagine what it's like attending.

But I do think you're right, it seems that we are really jittery when we come up against big hostile crowds.

This is why getting off to a good start is critical. Drown the early noise put immediately.

We need the first goal, preferably 2, it activates our crowd and quiet end their’s. If we’re 3 goals down inside 10 minutes god help us

Last week's loss and incident has given Goody a golden opportunity to galvanise this group, harness all of that emotion from players and supporters alike and attack the rest of this finals series as if we have a point to prove.

The question is whether or not Goody and our leaders have what it takes to go there and be fuelled by it.

Now if we really are club with a strong and changed culture and a team stacked with competitive beasts, then we will see that come Thursday night.

I think this game is one of the most important in defining us as a club going forward. We're up against another juggernaut of a supporter base. Do we have the resolve to overcome their raucous crowd and execute? Reputations are made this time of year.

If people want to play the 'woe is us' injury card, then you may as well pack up bags now. I'm sick of that rhetoric. Every side has experienced injuries and both Collingwood and Carlton were able to persevere and win games despite the fact. Injury will not define this game. Our attitude will be the only thing.

If we win this, we have a shackles off free hit against Brisbane and we can carry this emotional wave through to a grand final. Clearly not the easy or desired path but gold is to be found in the places you least want to look.

I just really hope Goody and co are using all of what has occurred this past week as motivation.

Because if we make a Grand Final against Collingwood in a couple of weeks' time, they will be absolutely [censored] themselves.

Spot on Big Fella. The players and the coaches have experience. Do we have the resolve, the inner fortitude and the mental strength to hit these 2 games at full tilt from the first bounce? Can we execute under extreme pressure because if we can we are good enough to do this. Watching Maynard cop his first Viney  hit in 3 weeks will be a life affirming moment.

No hope or chance of winning this one, straight sets again. If we were going to win the gf this year we had to beat Collingwood last week no ifs, buts or maybes.

Totally disagree at worse we are the second best team in the finals. If we find a way to straighten up we win the next three games in a canter.

Weren’t you just looking for a spare ticket to this game in another thread? Why bother?

Goodwin is apparently quite a measured and calm coach, doesn't lean into the emotional side as much as imploring the group to follow the process.

If the coaches can get the players to start the game with say the kind of intensity that Collingwood started last week's game, we may be able to get on the front foot and not be chasing tail all game. It's a big if though, because we haven't seen many 4 quarter efforts at that intensity level over the last 2 years. So which quarters will we choose?

Also, if we happen to see manic intensity to start the game, I think people will be surprised to see just how well our forward line can function when the ball is coming in quick off turnovers forced around the middle of the ground.

Carlton will be lucky to get passed us and if they do Brisbane will beat them by 80 points.

Yes this is the danger. This game is going to be decided in the first quarter. Bring the heat early. As Jimmy Gadson said, use the events of the past week as motivation. If we don’t do that, it’s all over.

I just watched snippets of Goodwin's press conference on Instagram. He looks exhausted.

It's very hard fighting the AFL's agenda to get certain teams to win flags.

We were the flavour of the year in 2021, the fairy tale story.

But we are now yesterday's rubbish.

Yeah I mean it's cool to be different but I said last week how win or lose I didn't want to die wondering. Turns out we died wondering.

It also turns out that wet weather means more stoppages and ruck contests, who'd a thunk it!

He should be in Rucking...stuff the sub stuff...    If we select and play the same...which I highly suspect....because ...it's about backing the system after all.   Then same same....and same results

I will be thoroughly impressed with Goodwin if he bins whats not working and rejigs with what might.  Otherwise  it's pointless....though in our case....very good at points....

Deep down he knows we’re a chance but he’s been hurt so many times he can’t show that to this cruel and unforgiving world. His heart, damaged through years of thrashings can’t bare sharing what he really feels anymore. Because inside what he feels is a roar so loud he’s not sure he can contain it. A roar so powerful as to help inspire his team to a victory. At the 15 minute mark of the 3rd quarter look high up in the stands on the East side, for that roar will finally be unleashed and the game will be won. Now get this man a ticket!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
