I can't recall the last time when 5 games out from season's end that the performance of teams below us were almost irrelevant to our long term position.

Port and Brisbane are the main games in town

Let the others scrap....

I'm still hoping we win all our games, including a big percentage earner on Sunday, Coll. don't win by much tomorrow, and lose the next three.  Meanwhile Port lose one game, and Bris don't have any percent boosters......and we end up minor Premiers!!!

I know it doesn't matter if we're first or second....but I quite like being minor Premiers. Last time we went on and won the Major prize!!

Um, Collingwood are 3 games ahead, plus percentage.

Go Cats. Go Dockers.

I feel so dirty, good thing I have no pride.

Won't be surprised if the Saints knock off the media anointed Premiers elect.

I’m hoping the giants beat the swans. Don’t want the swans to have something to play for when we play them in the last round.

They'll find something to play for ... Teams always do against us.

I distinctly recall when they didn’t find something to play for against us and we’d still get spanked 🏏

For once I just want a team to put the cue firmly in it's rack against us. I see lots of NON-MFC games (to bring this back on topic) where one team has gone to lunch yet we'll play them the next week and it's back to work.

Yes, the last few weeks have certainly felt like that… shame about Carlton’s resurgence really… hoping for a Giants and saints win this week… likelihood is quite low though.

North will fold this weekend. Nice percentage boost coming up

I want Geelong and Carlton out of the finals.

Who to barrack for tonight to increase the odds of that happening?  Arrrghhh, it's all too complicated- advise please.

I leave aside the Geelong Port game - as Jaded said, too damaging to the soul to even think about it.

A Geelong win is good for the Dees, but bad for the soul

For the first time I can think of Geelong is the lesser of two evils here. It also helps I won't have to watch Tom Hawkins waddle around.

I'm thinking because of the influence behind closed walls in the Port Players Rooms that there would be a fair amount of dismay and quite a lot of annoyance between the players and Coach,

This bloke can be construed as neglecting his interest and their interests and welfares, by his cognisance of  some of them returning to the ground.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
