Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I would have thought the experience of 3 flags in a row earns him a chance. I believe the best coaches get the most out of what they have, and he has proven he can do that. He changes things up in games when things aren't going Sandy's way with more positive results than negative.

I know most people want champion AFL players to coach AFL teams, but I think it comes down to a charismatic respected human being with a brain, and a proven resume.

...it's funny, coz I think I know where you're coming from, it's just hard to focus and take it seriously when below your text is that graphic of one of the saddest stories so far for 2007.

The artist of that graphic is talented, just a little disturbed.

what you mean saddest stories of 07?

....Brown coming to terms that he won't be able to play footy again, is currently the saddest story for 2007. Celebrating that break in a graphic is tasteless IMO.

It's Celebrating 'Whealen the Wrecker' and the little hardness still left in our game, you must be more of a Cameron Bruce person.

Err. Whelan fell on his leg, there's nothing hard or tough about that, it was just a sheer accident. Anyone from Rodney Grinter to Ryan Houlihan could've done that.

we'll it happened in front of me and it looked like a fearless smoother from where I was sitting, straight onto the kicking leg.

Anyway, back on topic people!

here's a thought, if you're celebrating Wheels' selfless act of smothering the footy, why not have the pre-break moment as the image?

...oh that's right, coz you're a clown.

so now your changing your story to say it was a great smother/selfless act? not wheels falling over?

lame ones like you are why AFL is becoming a non contact sport, go play with your lippy and netball skirt keeping yourself out of this thread, its not about me.

Thanks for the entertainment BIGPOND. I've had a busy morning dealing with the real world, so your hit and miss put a smile on my face.

If anyone here can point out where in this thread I had "a story", i'd appreciate your view.

As far as I can see, I have only commented on the strength of the artist's drawing, but was bemused why it chose to highlight such a graphic and sad moment in time.

I have always viewed Wheels as a selfless hero... and still think that if you saw him as that too, an image of him midair diving on the footy would make a better point than the image you have chosen, which clearly focuses on the pain and suffering Brown is going through.

....so back to my first point, it's hard to take you seriously.

it was nasher who said 'fell' not finks bigpond. also im interested to know, do you think wheelan meant to fall across his leg (and break it) or do you think he meant to smoother the ball and the fact that he fell was an accidental part of the play?

what finks is saying is that the smother was the courageous selfless part of the play. wheelan smothering the ball at physical risk to himslef was tough. but your picture indicates that wheelan got sadistic pleasure out of watching nathan brown sitting there injured, when in fact wheelan is the one who flagged attention to it and tried to get the medicos out there...

celebrating hard footy is one thing, deriving pleasure from someone elses pain is a bit strange...

Gary O'Donnell!! Mathews right hand man for the last 7+ years. Also if he could bring Voss on as the midfield coach, that would be a huge plus (haven’t been happy with the skills and direction of the mid field under Williams, not saying its all him but we did see immediate results when Ratten came in, was hoping for the same under Williams)

Nathan Buckley would be ideal, he is a true leader of men and one of the best football brains going around.

he is still on the pies list! to be honest im not sure you want someone first year out of playing...

and out of interest, do we need to keep the traditional coaching structure? has anyone thought of a coaching panel who work together? could that work? we could have a tactics and match day coach along with the others rather than a head coach. does anyone think this sort of set up could work? or a case of too many cooks spoil the broth?

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
