Many commentators have claimed knowledge of Grundy going to Port Adelaide.

Wasn't he from SA originally?

who then is our backup ruck ?

We would have to bring an experienced one in to cover for a couple of years, until Verrall and FW are ready.

Grundy is not sticking around to be back up.

Max and the FD need to have a discussion in early October about whether Max wants to play for 2 more years or until one his knees goes, or whether Max wants to have some discipline applied and turn into a FP that rucks for a third of the game.

If that is too hard and Max was just humouring everyone last October then pay $200k for Port to take him and go and get a 22 year old lump from somewhere.

Of course we have one and will keep him for the next few years.

Ok then. What Brodie wants would be immaterial?

Brodie has been informing you of what he wants has he?

No, but he left his previous club in large part because he didn’t want to be a back up. So I can guess. You don’t seem to care.

I'm not sure that was the case. He was pushed out the door and didn't want to go at all.

That is exactly what happened, but a lot have short memories I think.

That was if we get rid of Grundy.

Depends in what coloured jersey.

Why would we pay Port to take Grundy if we want to keep him and he requests a trade? Why does everyone keep talking about his existing contract in relation to this scenario? Am I missing something?

How do you two think he was ‘pushed’?? He was told he wouldn’t play.

To help pay his $650k that we owe.

They needed his salary cap, the same reason they got rid of Treloar. If you want to keep going with this move to the Brodie Grundy thread.

Some in the media seem to have made a case that if Grundy were to go to another club, then Collingwood would be absolved if their obligation to pay a portion of his salary. I can’t see how this is correct. It’s a terrible clause to allow to be written into the contract, if that is the case. Bordering on a sackable offence. The implication being that we’d then need to negotiate paying a portion of Grundy’s full salary just to move him.

As unlikely as it is, if it is in fact somehow true, this would make us much more unlikely to agree to a move away.

You dont know that, just another bombastic shut down

Yep, good comparison.

Dont know, Kent. But i highly doubt Grundy wants to remain a back up ruck. Hence why he's now a Casey forward

I remember thinking Preuss could be our long term back up ruck, but he too seemed to want the no 1 job. Not that Preuss and Grundy are of equal standing, but IMO a past AA ruck on ~$1mill won't be happy as a back up ruck

We'll know soon after we win our 14th🏆 in a couple of months!

Back on track to Harley Reid. Up till now, I wasn't in favour of selling the house to get him but after today when North's midfield brigade gave us a scare for a half I would be all for getting him. Harmes, battles but is slipping backwards and Jordon is too one-paced. We need another class midfielder. North have Thomas who showed he can play, Uniake, Simpkin, with Wardlaw and George along with whoever they get this season. They will fill their midfield with class. Max, Clarrie Viney and Trac are hard but not good finishers.

Shut down of what, the garbage coming out of the media and any fool that believes it.

Go to the Brodie Grundy thread if you want to reply.

Bit like when he was shutting down everyone late last year who dared to question Jackson potentially going home.

Nek minute.....

North may grab him, according to Peter Bell{ not sure if that is reliable] Reid has definately told the Eagles not to draft him.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
