I hate the way the VFL has been merged with the Reserves.

I fully agree with u. If the AFL had any brains they would provide some $$ to these stand alone clubs & help to maintain a high standard for a local 2nd tier comp.

Tomorrow I get to watch the Demons Reserves (aka Casey) play a torpedo punt* from my home. But I'll feel like a goddamn traitor when my Coburg drinking buddies see me in red and blue. Any other week I support the Lions.

Coburg Lions are really struggling this year. It's hard to compete against AFL clubs and professional athletes.

All Demon fans going to Coburg, please eat as many snags and chips as you can, and drink the Coburg Lager. Help keep the Lions viable.

* I'm probably talking 5 x Malcolm Blight torps if I'm honest

Played a few half time games there in under 13 during the the VFAs great days in the 60s

Even got on the TV once

I agree that a once great club is being reduced to a gap filler role in this stupid version of VFL

First time visitor to Coburg’s ground to see BG’s Casey debut. I wonder if he’ll get a Gatorade shower if we win?

On my way to game, and realise from The Red Fox that it’s the ground we were at for the weekend after Norm was sacked - the only time Melbourne played at North’s then home ground. Ominously it was round 13, and we were well beaten in front of 8,312 hardy fans.

We did at least salvage a League record out of the rubble of that round, and one unlikely to be beaten: temporary coach Checker Hughes was the oldest person then to have coached an AFL team, and remains so at 71 years, 148 days. Dunno whether that qualifies for the “embarrassing records” thread or not, but it is what it is.

Casey dominating but wasting opportunities in front of goal.
It’s giving PTSD.

Edit: is Rigoni playing for Coburg related?

The biggest drawback is the fact that the clubs don’t play each other once during the season. In Casey’s case, that means they miss out on a couple of potentially easy games against Northern Bullants and Porr Melbourne. Fingers crossed that they’re in a winning frame for the rest of the season.

Don't fire me up again re this dog's dinner of a 'support competition' for the biggest competition in the country.

Bring it back to Victoria, and make up / drop to an even number of teams.  The other states have secondary competitions so why should part time players in Victoria (plumbers, sparkies, tradies etc) have to travel interstate, sometimes on weekdays, to prop up a comp so that the interstate teams can play VFL teams?

Nothing fair about the "draw" aka schedule, even worse than AFL, and limited opportunities due to byes for emerging / returning players to gain form and show their wares.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
