Nice goal to AMW. Casey doing something our seniors need to learn to do, putting them away early.

Howes looks a player, I’m interested in why he’s being played at HB, a crowded position on our list and not the wing. He has attributes we lack in our current two wingers he’s tall, a good mark, beautiful kick and tough. Is it a tank issue?

Schache definitely putting up his hand for the Fritsch position

could you play him as the sub next week instead of J Smith?
Can pinch hit in the ruck and play forward if we needed a different look against the lions …. ?

Not thrilled with Smith as the sub. In the days of the injury sub he would have been better.

Harmes or Melksham are probably better subs if you are looking for fresh legs

Blake Howes our next debutant you’d have to think. Schache to get another chance perhaps?

VFL is quite a step down, I’ve watched most of our games this year and the standard is just ok

Schace and Tommo deserve a go at AFL level for sure.

Laurie not getting much, for anyone watching is he out of position (ie he takes harmes spot) or just not showing anything?

Would consider Shack in for Grundy this week IF Max is fully fit.

As you say, can pinch hit for Max and a much more dangerous proposition up forward vs either Max or Grundy.

Play Dunstan as the sub.  VG in congestion.  Brilliant distributor by hand.  Help out the mid field later in the match.  Especially given Tracc will  probably be playing less mid and more forward minutes.

Yes on Howes, but with Schache, while he is kicking goals, mostly from frees or soft marks, he doesn't like the hard ball and that is very evident.

Goody is not a fan of that.

However on output, ( goals ) you would put him in the frame if we have the injuries.

TBH he could probably play the Fritta role for a few games, but I don't see it happening.

Tommo is very very unlucky, not to be playing regular senior footy.

JVR showing why he's in the VFL. Highmore has had the better of him.

Needs to work on a lot - leading patterns, field kicking, general nous. The best way I can describe him is a super competitive, combative forward. But he's not a smart forward - not half as smart as schache for example (who conversely lacks all competitiveness)

Chandler equally ineffective at this level. On this showing AMW is almost in front of him...

Very versatile.  Maybe the tank but has got better the longer this game's gone on and as it's opened up.

Very classy.  Can see either him or McVee on a wing at some point no problems.

I really like the look of Howes. The only thing working against him is we have a balanced defence and an over abundance of running skilful half backs. It’s a good problem to have.

I reckon at 90% of other teams Howes would have had a crack at AFL level by now.

I'd like to see Howes play forward. Seems to have a physique similar to Fritsch. His kicking seems ok, has some run, and can take a mark.

His tank is good although no doubt a step below proven gun runners like Langdon and Hunter.

His contested work has generally been just ok at VFL level. Half back gives him more opportunity to fix that up and he’s getting there. But he’s noticeably a clear step below someone like Woey for contested work, despite having more size and skill. Woey and JJ are probably the back up wings, no point having a 5th in line winger.

At some stage I’d like to see him move on ball and resting forward if he’s just about mastered the half back role and there’s no afl opportunity. But for now he’s still building his game

And of course as soon as a compliment Dunstan by hand he coughs a couple up 😆

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
