I wasn't sure where to put this, so I'll put it here.

Gus started the game horribly, including being responsible for Crisp at the stoppage in D50 when Crisp goalled. 

Gus then worked himself into the game and had a couple of important clearances.

The final Collingwood goal from a D50 stoppage though, Gus is again responsible for Daicos. And like the Crisp D50 stoppage goal, Gus was left ball-watching or simply too slow.

I worry about Gus, because I'm not sure there's a position for him when we have both wings covered, Salem back in the team and Oliver back in the team.

He's a good reader of the play, but he's not quick and he's not a good user by foot either. He's wonderfully courageous, but I do wonder where he fits when/if we're at full strength.

Is it just me?

My English team (Sunderland) has a bitter rivalry with Newcastle, the Magpies. We delight in the acronym FTM. It’s why my Dad chose the Demons back in the 60’s because they were, at the time, Collingwood’s natural rival. He hated all things black and white.

Possibly for the longer shots from a fair way out but from what i witnessed behind the goals for two quarters, most of the misses came from players that were leaning back on their last step.  Momentum killer with right leg tending to pivot around the left causing player to shank.

Some misses no doubt caused by fatigue but for the most part i felt technique (mainly the leaning back) was a factor on many of our medium to short range shots, where not as much power's required.  At least for those that are right footed.

But you tend to lean back on your kicks when you're fatigued, so it's interlinked.

The other thing notable was that when reading the AFL ap at half time, it said our 3 goals had all come from 40-50m, while four of Collingwood's five goals had come from 15-30m out. That obviously makes a huge difference with accuracy. 

But this is a ball movement thing that I'd suggest is also linked to fatigue. We go wider and we're happier to go wider during the middle part of the year, and then I suspect we'll start to go more central at the back end of the year.

Brayshaw doesn't get enough credit for all the terrific work that he does.  Often handballing off to a player in a better position.  Deft touches on a constant basis. Competes hard and always puts his body on the line.  Excellent spoiler as well

His number of errors are often greatly exaggerated and his good work is played down and often ignored

Petracca went at 50% but there's no thought of throwing him down to the 2nds

Viney went at 68% ... that means that a 3rd of his disposals were not effective

Yet he was B.O.G

So he (Brayshaw) had a great deal more than a couple of important clearances.  That evaluation is utter nonsense

He was fantastic after a dodgy first 15 minutes

But all our players can turn the ball over such is the nature of the sport.  It lends itself to forced errors and unforced errors

At ground level (as opposed to up in the stands) it's very difficult to hit targets at distance.  So players have to take risks delivering into crowded areas when kicking over 30 metres

We need to allow players to make a few mistakes.  You want perfection, you're watching the wrong sport

The game is full of errors.  And excellent disposals.  You get both, that's the sport

Collingwood made a stack of errors today and that was uncharacteristic ... but they all just didn't lose their skill levels overnight!  We pressured them into errors. Again, that's the sport

Take the good with the bad I say

It would be different if we were talking about a player with low possession numbers making errors half the time

That's a whole other argument

Hunter was another who excelled after turning the ball over early.  He is often required to kick long down the line (or slightly inboard) so if that kick is to a contest, it's up to the recipient to fight hard for possession.  Hunter's done his bit

Never gave up and had 28 disposals in the end.  One of our best (along with Brayshaw)

So it's the sum of all the parts

Kicking for goal was poor today but we've been excellent in that area for most of the season

So a bit of simulated goal kicking practice to get back on track and away we go

Why do supporters even care what ex-players or commentators say? 

Do we need positive affirmation from these fools and take it personally when we don't get it?

Most supporters on here have far greater knowledge of our team than these buffoons. Analysis from the AFL media is atrocious (Jordan Lewis, Daisy Pearce and Montagna being the possible exceptions).

Ignore it, laugh at it, whatever but don't worry about it.
